with snow covered mountains in the distance. I actually saw a whale spouting water when I was visiting! First whale I've ever seen.

“Great way to spend a Sunday”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

From Punta Arenas it is about 1 hr and an easy drive along the coast. In January and February the weather is much better for walking about once you get there. Lots to see and the area is beautiful. You will want to bring snacks or a lunch as the "snack" bar was a little bare. Great to grab water and some little trinkets, but that was about all.

If you are lucky like we were you may even get to catch a Sea Lion or two!

If you are a history buff this is a 1/2 day tour for you!

“Pleasant visit full of history”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

About half a day. 1 hour trip to the site one-way. Great scenery. The site itself is well organized, easy to go around. The old fort is well preserved and gives an idea of the harshness of the living conditions for these soldiers "defending" the early Chilean geo-political interests in the area. We even saw a couple of dolphins!

“Interesting, beautiful setting but lacking information”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

Patagonia is full of marvelous landscapes, this site is no exception. It shows the rebuilt Fort that was one of the first tries to manifest the spanish claim of power in the region. The buildings have been rebuilt with lots of care and effort and a couple of walkways lead around the headland.
Unfortunately information present to put the site into historic context is a bit sparse.

“Gorgeous! Unmissable!”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

Drive there from Punta Arenas so you can make stops and enjoy the picturesque way there. the fort is set in an atmospheric spot where you will be taken back in time. They could do with some decoration, though! Do take a walk on the senderos that will take you to as close to the sea as you can . They are the highlight.
