Three of us wandering around Punta Arenas looking for a place that served king crab au gratin for lunch -- but none of us remembering the Spanish for crab. Happily, Brocolino had a chalk board in the window with English translations. Shortly after we arrived, the entire place filled with local residents and tourists. Along with our crab and a bottle of good local white wine, we had lots of laughs reading the chef's additional observations under each of the menu entries. This was a lucky encounter.

We enjoyed two meals at Brocolino-both fantastic. The menu is a hoot with subtle digs on other restaurants. The service was great and the food divine. Dessert was okay but not cosmic.

The owner and chef, Hector Galvez, is passionate chef. Who would have thought such a great restaurant exists in Punta Arenas? Hector’s creativity comes through not only in his food but his menu descriptions too. Here is an example “Vegetable Soup, prepared by Jenny – one day this bold and feisty young apprentice decided to change a few ingredients to my soup and left if absolutely delicious… Unfortunately that also meant giving her a raise.”

This family run restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes. The seafood is wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh king crab, goat cheese and smoked salmon salad, Wedding of Ecuadorian shrimps and asparagus.

Whether you are passing through Punta Arenas on your way to Antarctica or on a cruise ship - take the opportunity to have a nice meal at the Brocolino Restaurant.

Though some of the dishes were kind of salty, one must try the salmon with jamon iberico, an unusual fusion which is delicious. Service is very kind and the cost is very good.
