We came in from the cold to a very warm welcome. Our room was large with a sea view and very well fitted - one of the best showers on our trip. The breakfast was wonderful, just a shame we were only there for one night!

We spent 1 night at the Ilaia, on our return to Punta Arenas from our 4-day hike in Torres Del Paine. Needless to say, we were in supreme comfort at Ilaia: a king sized bed, the airy feel of the upstairs, and the beautiful design of the public spaces -- such pretty colors and use of wood furnishings.

The spacious bathroom with powerful shower was a much-appreciated marvel after trekking through wild terrain!

Room Tip: the 2nd floor bedroom facing the parking lot has a king-size bed, 2 big windows that open and genero...

What a pleasant surprise to find this charming, comfortable hotel in Punta Arenas. Rooms are small but perfectly furnished and well lit. The hosts are incredibly helpful and accommodating and provide an excellent breakfast. A sitting area on the 3rd level provides a comfortable and quiet reading area with a view of the ocean. Highly recommended!

I just loved the Hotel Ilaia. It's a warm, inviting little gem of a hotel. It's not fancy--the furniture is simple pine, the bedding is fluffy and cozy but plain, rooms are on the small side--but every detail is perfect, thoughtful, *just right*.

Every room has windows that look out on a private or semi-private garden. The luggage racks are JUST the right height to ruffle through while standing. They have a bank of computers you can use. Free wifi that works. A little sitting room at the top of the hotel where you can lounge and relax, with a fantastic view of the Strait of Magellan.

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the center of town, but only 5 from the Fernandez bus station (the best place to go for tickets to Puerto Natales).

The best thing of all is the breakfast--again, simple but PERFECT. Muesli with fresh fruit, yogurt, and homemade jam. Little chapati with the soft, almost flavorless cheese that's everywhere in Chile, topped with fresh guacamole. Decent coffee (which is about as good as it gets in Chile), or tea. Really delicious.

I just loved this place. I thought it was EXCELLENT value for money (I'd stay there over a lot of places that are twice the price) & recommend it wholeheartedly.

Very relaxing and quiet place to stay in Puntarenas. The place is well decorated with great taste. Room and areas were very clean. Take a look at their view on the third floor. The downtown and restaurants are close, like 15 min walk. Breakfast is all homemade. Make sure you have time to go and see the penguins.

How can we describe, what all others already described?
We (as a family of 5) were treated like their own family. It is the service, whatever you need, the relaxing atmosphere and the homemade and served breakfast. Everyone in this hotel tries to make your stay truly memorable. We needed breakfast at 5am, no problem...
One of the best is really sitting with a cup of tea in their rooftop room and overlooking Punta Arenas when the sun is going down...
An outstanding experience!

The Ilaia is very new, and very new-age. The rooms (we had a superior double), with clean and simple wood and slate modern design, are truly lovely. This is a good place for children (provided they are good sleepers, since the walls are thin and voices carry): everyone who worked there took an interest in our one-year-old son, and made him and us feel welcome. The common areas are pleasant, especially the upstairs terrace with great views over the city and strait. Everyone who works here is kind and warm, and the breakfast (chapati bread, fresh avocado and jams, high-quality granola and yogurt) is a treat for anyone who is a little weary of the feast of flesh that is South American cuisine. Although the hotel is a bit out of the center, this is not really a concern, as the core of Punta Arenas is tiny, and you can reach the central Plaza de Armas from the Ilaia in under ten minutes if you walk at a decent clip. I have no basis for comparison, but this is probably the best hotel in Punta Arenas. You might say I'm stingy with my five stars—I'm not surprised that this hotel has earned so many top reviews—but I have to admit that the thin walls, the mild 'tsk tsk' I got when I asked for butter at breakfast, and the new-age vibe (the walls read kind of like the slogans you'd find in a yoga gear catalog) were the tiniest bit off-putting for me (but not for everyone! If you love world music, for instance, you will most definitely feel at home here). Regardless, though, I highly recommend the Ilaia for a comfortable stay in southern Patagonia.
