“Such Warmth!”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

What an amazing stay at Hotel Ilaia! The staff were so warm and kind, really going out of their way to make sure every aspect of our travels went smoothly, all without being the slightest bit intrusive. The breakfasts were fantastic, a great start to the day.

Also highly recommended is Jose, the taxi driver they arranged. He took us to the dock for the penguin tour while pointing out the sights on the way and offered to come back and meet us at the boat when it got back. In the freezing 10pm wind, it was so lovely to see him waving at us from the docks, delivering us to dinner in his warm car before others were even off the boat!

Make sure you have the address of the hotel when you arrive; our shuttle driver from the airport had a bit of trouble finding the place.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights before heading to Torres del Paine. It was lovely. There's a reason so many people give it five stars. The sisters who run it make sure your stay is a pleasure and there is a zen feeling permeating throughout the hotel. Many nuanced details everywhere. On a separate note, we'd recommend you try a hole-in-the-wall restaurant two blocks away called Mama's. Best chicken we've ever had!

From the moment we walked into Ilaia Hotel, my stress started to dissipate. We had traveled from Washington DC to NYC to Santiago and finally to Punta Arenas...traveling for over 24 hours, and had just found out the airlines had lost not one, but both of our checked luggage. I was on the verge of tears...but the women working at the front desk were so reassuring and helpful. They continued to call the airlines for us and we were so relieved that our bags were delivered to us by the next morning. Jose, the taxi driver that lives 4 blocks away from the hotel, was so helpful to us and when our Penguin tour was cancelled due to weather at the last minute, he drove us an hour away to Seno Otway so that we wouldn't miss the penguins. I agree with the "home away from home"...the breakfast was so fresh, healthy, filling and delicious and you couldn't beat the service. Our room with the king-size bed and serenity room were perfect. Thank you Ilaia!

We have stayed for work on very good hotels around the world but Ilaia is something else. The service they provided was amazing.

We arrived in Punta Arenas by 2 in the morning, the driver we scheduled with the hotel was there on time to pick us up. In the following morning we had a tour bus to pick us up. We were having breakfast when the bus arrived and the staff quickly helped us to put together a to go breakfast.

We were supposed to take an early afternoon bus to Pto Natales but the travel agency we worked with from Pto Natales made a mistake and we could only leave at the lat afternoon bus. With no where else to go and with our bags we went back to the hotel - they received us so well, allowed us to leave our bags, eat our food in a common area and rest a little until the time of our late afternoon bus. - Excellent Service

When we went back from Pto Natales to Pta Arenas we were going to have to wait 5 hours and we contacted the hotel if they would allow us to leave our bags in the hotel while we would walk around the city. They had no problems with that and also recommended restaurants for us to eat at.

The hotel room was so clean and so beautiful. The breakfast was amazing. The service - the best! Overall very good value for the amount paid.

Ilaia is perhaps one of the most amazing places I have ever had the fortune to stay in. The staff treated us like family from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The hotel itself is beautiful and serene, helping to make our experience in Punta Arenas genuinely special. Everything at Ilaia is done with such care and love and the atmosphere is filled with peace and warmth. From the clean and comfortable rooms to the homemade organic meals and viewing room on the roof, Ilaia is a definite must stay. We will surely return to Punta Arenas again to visit the Ilaia family. Thank you for your warmth and kindness!

After visiting you realize that its not surprise this is the number 1 hotel in Punta Arenas. The entire staff makes you feel as if you are a long lost relative returning to the motherland for a visit. They are so warm, helpful and kind. Even if the hotel wasn't as well designed and comfortable as it is, the staff would be reason alone to return.

But the hotel is beautifully decorates. It takes a minimal approach yet it is hip and stylish. Rooms are very basic but comfortable. A hearty breakfast is included. There's no TV or clock but as most hotels in the area wifi is included. The modern bathroom with large shower heads has strong pressure.

On the top floor is a cozy glass sitting room which has a panoramic view of the entire city. They have a lot to park the car. Since they don't have a store bring any water or snacks you may need throughout the day.

For the price you can not beat this place. I travel a lot and this is definitely one of my favorite hotels!

This little hotel has a lot going for it: a good location, spotless rooms, good common areas, good breakfast - but what stood out for me was the staff and the service they provided. They went out of their way to help us make frantic last-minute travel and hotel arrangements, and they were very gracious and treated us like family while doing it.

Dec 2012: We were on our way to Torres del Paine and the plan was to stay just one night at Punta Arenas before continuing on to Puerto Natales. The airline misplaced one of our backpacks and was very late delivering it to the hotel. But there was still time to catch the last bus to Puerto Natales. Immediately the staff was calling all the bus companies to check if they had seats on the last trip to PN. Unfortunately the buses were all full, so we had to stay in Punta Arenas one more night. Alas, Ilaia had no rooms available - so they started calling the other hotels in town and tried to find us a room. They must have called a dozen places before they found us one - not a mean feat as the town gets quite booked during this, their high season. Me and my friends spoke very little Spanish so the staff's help in communicating was invaluable.

I highly, highly recommend them.
