“Superb Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2012

What a pleasure to find a small boutique hotel that puts such a heavy emphasis on customer service. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in the door. Everyone was friendly and willing to share advice on what to see and do in the area. And the unusual breakfasts (think granola + fresh fruit + real orange juice + corn tortillas) were a welcome change from the normal buffets in this part of the world. In addition, someone really knew what they were doing when they laid out the rooms. We had a superior king that was spacious, had a pleasant view, and was filled with guest conveniences like a large desk, an oversized bathroom, ample mirrors, and a long bench for suitcases with a shelf underneath to lay things ouit. All in all, our three-night stay here couldn't have been more pleasant.

Room Tip: The superior rooms are worth the small extra price.

I'm not what you would call the touchy feely type, and this kind of thing kind of bothers me. And I must say I was a little weirded out by the reputation of this place before staying there. But having spent 3 nights on two separate stays I must say I really did enjoy it. Why? Well, they are your touchy feely type people but it's not fake. They really are genuinely nice - everyone, the entire staff. They care about their hotel, they care about making you happy and comfortable an they are PROUD of what they have put forth, as they should be. Although you can get this kind of service at the Ritz Carlton - it's just different here, it's more homey so to speak; it's more than a job for these folks. I don't know how else to describe this experience without scaring people off. All I can say is I liked it and I would recommend it (and I can't say enough that I usually HATE this kind of thing).

The place is clean - very clean, the bed was comfortable and clean. The rooms can be just a tad bigger and i would have liked a table to work at and a few hooks to hang my clothes. The breakfast was basic but well presented. It's a cold breakfast but whatever. After a 2 night stay I went off to Torres for a week and stayed in a cabana (suffice to say i needed my own silk sleeping bag). I couldn't wait to get back to the Ilaia with their touchy feely staff ... and clean bed.

Would I recommend this place? Yes!!! Please stay here if you can, they deserve your business and they will earn your great review too.

My Friend and I stayed here after a pretty rigorous trek on the W-circuit in Patagonia and it was a complete delight. Juanita made us feel completely at home, complete with tea when we came in from the cold, and wonderful dinner suggestions every night. I have to say - Im not really the yoga loving hippy type, but that isn't what this hotel is about - just wonderful atmosphere, relaxing, and great service. The rooms were also gorgeous with light wood paneling and rain shower heads, and with very comfortable beds. (But don't take my word for it- I had been sleeping in refugios for the few nights prior). Thanks again Ilaia, I hope to return! You were, like others have said, truly an Oasis in Punta Arenas.

Okay, so perhaps the hippy approach isn't for everybody, but it is undeniably a rather fabulous restaurant. Easily the warmest reception and the best nights sleep I've had on this trip - who says hospitality is dead?

We were greeted as old friends and parted as family - a rare and fantastic hotel experience.

Don't miss El Mirador - the 3rd floor room with panoramic views. The sunrise from up there was absolutely magnificent.

Just went there for a treat. The cozy lounge on the top floor during the night is simply magic. The breakfast? Outstanding. The service? No words to describe their kindness and willingess to indulge you. A very special place. If you can go, just do it. You won't regret.

Outstanding service with truly dedicated staff in a well designed modern hotel. There is a reason it is ranked number one. We would not stay any where else. Finally a wholesome breakfast
