“A nice place to stay”
Reviewed December 21, 2011

My friend and I stayed here before and after a hiking trip in Torres del Paine. It was a pleasant hotel and the staff was very accomodating and friendly. Breakfast was good and the internet worked when I needed it.

Room Tip: The superior room has a view of the Straits of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego

I had a lovely stay here at the start and end to my visit to Magallanes. The hotel is modern with great architecture and style. I really liked the lounge/ salon de estar / eagle`s nest on top of the building, with great views overlooking the town and Magellan Straits. The people were genuine, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was unusual with avocado and chipati, homemade jam and fresh orange juice. There was free wi-fi and a laptop for guest use. The bedroom was stylish with a comfortable bed and the bathroom really good. There was no TV etc, but that didn´t matter. Regarding the laughter yoga, on my departure I was fretting about the arrival of the transfer bus, so the lady told me not to worry and said that laughter yoga would cure me, and she just started laughing heartily and unstoppably ! lol I got all embarrassed and just wished I'd melt away ! I think another man there found it all bizarre too ! But it did make me laugh !!

Ilaia was a good choice for Punta Arenas - clean and simple and reasonably priced, but fine for one night before the trip to Torres del Paine. Room was bright and clean but very basic (no desk, no tv, shower is actually part of bathroom). Staff was really friendly and breakfast was simple but fresh and tasty.

It's walking distance but just outside of the downtown, and for one night was a good place to stay. (one tip - if you want to go to seno otway to see penguins, take a taxi right from the airport, it's 15 minutes closer and a taxi driver will take you and wait for you).

From the bottom of our heart we appreciate your comment, because it is an instance to remind to travelers that this place invites you to connect with the wonder of who we are and as we say in the letter sent with your reservation: "we have said goodbye to the television".
Our breakfast is thought to be healthy and fresh (fresh orange juice, tea or coffee, yogurt, home made muesli, fruits, avocado, home made marmalade and our specialty "chapatis"). And you can always ask for more.
Also remember that it is a small hotel but there are larger rooms (Superior) with closet and desk.

In the path of growing, keep smiling!...

it was a perfect place to stay - before and after the trek in torres del paine. everything was great - stuff, breakfast, room, support and the atmosphere.
the hotel itself is worth to go back to chile - i will always keep in mind my good time at his place - just go and relax and enjoy your holiday.
the only problem with this hotel is that you do not want to leave. it is so nice to spend time there. and there is the beautiful common room at the top floor with lots of cushions to relaxe and best view over the roofs of punta arenas up to the sea - just go go go go ...

Regarding the fact that Punta Arenas is a remote destination, this place is really a gem in this city for the warm welcome, comfort and friendliness it brought us. The room and shower were quite nice, we slept very well and had very nice and hearty breakfast.
The very little inconvenience is that no one did really speak english in the place. I don't want to sound precious about that (it does not really matter at the end) but it was just surprising as we had very good english conversations to book the rooms. It looked like they are using some google translation tools to reply to emails so just prepare for some little time to get understood (or speak spanish!). All is all the place is very recommended!

Thank you very much for your kind words. We do feel very enthusiastic when we receive comments because they are always an impulse for us in order to improve our service. We really appreciate that you take your time for sharing your feelings.

On the other hand these days we are offering a better service in regard to english language so we are glad to tell you that we have hired two nice people to help you in the reception.

On the path of conciousness let´s keep walking...

Ilaia is a new-agey, small hotel located centrally in Punta Arenas. It is about 15 minutes from the airport and the rooms are very clean and modern. The rooms are noisy especially if you're on the ground floor next to the dining room, as the staff start setting the tables at 2am and you may hear some cutlery and crockery being banged around. The noise of travelers clanking down the stairs in the very early hours of the morning may keep you awake too, so I don't recommend a ground floor room. Other than that issue, this is a safe, friendly place to stay especially for female solo travelers. The breakfast is wholesome, healthy and organic, and the staff do try hard to be helpful.

Dear guest:

Thank you for expressing your feelings. You help us to improve our service and offer a real perspective of our place.
ILAIA is built of wood, so it is more vulnerable to noises than other materials. However we have been working, for example, a door has been installed in the corridor next to the first floor rooms, in order to isolate that area. On the other hand, we have decided to lay the tables for breakfast according to a schedule that doesn't affect the rest time at night. Also we are checking throughly the way to avoid the noise from some luggage rolling along the corridors.
Here, life is giving us a magnificent opportunity to go over our service once more and make it better and better...

In the path of consciousness we choose not to stop learning, because we know that your welfare is ours...

Let's keep working to make this " Mother Earth " a better place to live...

I might think why a 100 dollars/night hotel gets so many good reviews. An amazing staff makes the difference. The hotel by itself is very good, It's a nice boutique hotel with a scandinavian mood, clean and confortable. But the staff is so gentle, so warm , so helpful that you will understand all the reviews. They really deserve them.
