Found this place by default after the other backpackers in the area were closed and I was very happy that they were as I had such a lovely stay here. A cosy place which is not over bearingly hot like other places I've stayed and clean!!! The breakfast was great and more than enough. I would stay here again without a doubt!

We were a trekking group of 13 who staged through Punta Arenas on the way to the Torres Del Paine.

Alejandro and his family could not have been more helpful in arranging taxis, translating when our mangling of spanish confused the locals, giving advice on transportation and shopping and generally how to do things.

It is basic, but the breakfast is substantial with fresh eggs and what we found to be the best coffee in town. The beds were comfortable, we were never cold, had enough hot water and could come and go as we please.

I highly recommend it as it is conveniently located, there are numerous restaurants and shops in the near vicinity and is pretty cheap to boot. I would stay there if I went back to PA.

Do not expect anything luxurious in this backpacker hostel. It seems to be typical of most hotels in Punta Arenas. In bad need of remodeling, old smelly carpeting, shared bathrooms. It was probably clean, but it's hard to distinguish between what is old beyond its time, and what is dirty. It will do if you spend only one night in Punta Arenas, which seems to be the norm anyway. So, if you are only looking for a good bed, a good shower and a reasonable breakfast, you will find it here.

I stayed at this hostal with 3 more friends. I stayed in a double room with toilets just in front of the room. Alejandro did all reservation we asked him and our staying there was really enjoyable. I talk to my friends as well. The breakfast was very good and the toilets were very clean. During our staying there we visited Isla de Magdalena. Maybe I will vissit Punta Arenas again. In this case I will definetely stay in La Estancia. Thanks Alejandro.

We originally booked the Hostal La Estancia to "slum it" a bit and save some money, but we ended up enjoying our stay tremendously and highly recommend this place for a simple, clean, and cheap place to stay in Punta Arenas while in transit to other places in Patagonia.

Rooms were fairly basic, but the beds were comfortable and there was TV in each private room with satellite TV which was nice since there is really nothing much to do in Punta Arenas. Comforters had some grease stains occasionally, but the sheets were very clean. Shared bathrooms were adequate and clean (though not especially fancy) with great water pressure in the shower. Breakfast was included in the rate and was pretty good and simple. There were also 2 computers available with FREE internet and skype which was really nice.

What made this place stand out was the amazing customer service. Alejandro goes way above and beyond to help out his customers. When we had the unfortunate luck to have one of our ATM cards taken by an ATM machine, he offered up his cell phone for us to call him if we needed extra Spanish skills to communicate with the bank staff to get the card back. When we couldn't recover the card before leaving for Torres del Paine because of a 3 day hold, he even offered to go retrieve the card while we were gone (the bank wouldn't let him)! We were so appreciative, we canceled our booking at Hotel Plaza for our return to Punta Arenas after Torres del Paine and booked a room at La Estancia to give him more business. That second time we stayed, we got a private room with bath and the bathroom was really nice!

Also had laundry done there and they did a great job and were able to do it quickly for us.

The only issue is that there are no heaters in the rooms, there is only one big furnace in common area on the 2nd floor (all rooms are off the common area like the spokes of a wheel) so the room can get cold. But it wasn't too bad for us, the room never got too cold.

Overall, I would recommend this place as a relatively cheap place to stay that is clean with good breakfast and amazing customer service!
