“Very friendly hostel for couples, excellent breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2009

This is a very nice hostel for couples. We had a room with a double bed which was a bit basic, but good enough. Unfortunately it can get a bit noisy because the walls are very thin.
But the owner is very friendly and speaks excellent English, and the breakfast was the best one we had in Patagonia (omlett, homemade bread, cheese, jam, yoghurt, cereals)!
The price was good value (35 Euros).
It is two blocks from the Erratic Rock 1 backpacker hostel where we listened to the 3pm Torres del Paine Talk: excellent information if you plan to go trekking!
The hostel is a bit out of the center of town in a quiet residential street but in fact it's just a 5 min. walk to the center, so we didn't need to take our car.

Hi

The host is one of the most helpful people we met in our journeys. She is caring and speak excellent English. She can give you great advice about restaurants and places to see.

The room was basic, had a good bed, we were disappointed that there were no chairs inside the room. The shower was excelent. The main problem with the room as commented by others are the fhin wall and ceiling.

Otherwise, a reaonable choice for a reasonable price with full breakfast included. I would go there again and would recommend it warmly.

This is the more comfortable version of the Erratic rock hotels. The rooms are clean, plenty of hot water, decent mattresses and ok sheets. We had a comfortable stay, but the walls are thin and most guests are wearing heavy hiking boots and either rising early for the morning bus or getting in late from the evening bus. I was awakened by the person snoring next door. Try to get rooms # 7 or 10. Breakfast was good with homemade bread. The staff was helpful and informative. The location is not too central, but that makes it a bit quieter than others and it is only a short walk to the shops and restaurants.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Erratic Rock 2 and recommend it highly. Marcela and her husband were extremely helpful and accommodating.

The hostel is only a few blocks from the center of town, our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included and gave us the opportunity to meet some of the other guests.

10 out of 10!

this place works on a great premise, selling itself as a hostel for couples who want a break from dorm rooms and a bit of privacy.

for the most part, it succeeds. the rooms are big, with good beds, en suite bathroom (and an actual bath to have a soak in!) and TV. it's in a quiet area of town but still only five minutes walk from the main drags. the staff are very friendly and helpful and will bend over backwards to help you, providing breakfast to suit your timetable which generally involves early starts if you're going to torres del paine.

we paid 25000 Chilean pesos per night for a double room.

there are (as always) a few drawbacks:

1. the walls are paper thin. on our last night before a 6am start we had very noisy neighbours (a couple with a kid) and you can hear pretty much everything

2. laundry service: good but expensive (8000 pesos for a full load)

3. kitchen: the hostel is also the house for the family that run the place. the small kitchen available for use by travellers is actually the kitchen they cook and eat in so you feel a bit like you're imposing on them as you heat up your pasta sauce as they sit behind you having their evening meal.

but otherwise... really good!

We were very happy to have selected Erratic Rock 2, but it might not be the best place to stay without wheels of some kind (we were on bicycles). While we were trekking in Torres del Paine, the owners stored our bikes and extra luggage, despite the fact that we stayed with them just one night. The welcome was warm, the rooms very clean and attractively albeit sparely furnished, and the breakfast was hearty. We enjoyed the chance to chat with other travelers and also with the owners. Although the hotel is out of town, there is the advantage of its quiet locale, especially since Puerto Natales is not very attractive as a town (excluding the area next to the water!).

Erratic Rock 2 is located in a private home about six blocks from the center of the city. Very clean rooms on the back of the house. Spartan furnishings but staying in a home allowed us to meet folks at breakfast and in the late afternoon. Great owner (has studied in the US and is currently a teacher) with helpful connections all over town.
Met a family from Holland taking the year to travel around South America as well as a couple from Australia. Recommended to us by a Swiss couple; for about fifty US dollars, it was a welcome change from hotel routines.
