“Basic accommodation reflected in price”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

Arrived late having reserved double room to find we were in a room with four single beds. We shared a single bed as without heating we huddled for warmth. Bathrooms basic, no hooks etc for towels. Water hot. Kitchen basic. Landlord welcoming and flexible- doesn't speak a word of English. Felt more like a home stay than a hostel. Good quality wifi.

We came in from Torres del Paine without a reservation and basically stumbled on this place because the other more well known hostels were full. This was such a great place we asked tripadvisor to list it.

It is basically a home that has been turned into a hostel, so it isn't a hotel-suite kind of place, but nor is it racks of bunk beds.

Breakfast was good and simple (bread, cheese, coffee, yoghurt, fruit, etc), the bathrooms were clean, and the beds comfortable. At 8-10,000 Chilean Pesos, it was also very reasonable.

BUT, the thing that really sets this hostel apart is the owners (a couple) and their relationship with the clients. Some things we experienced:

1. The wife is a big soccer fan (University of Chile I think...) and set up the TV to watch the game with the guests. Given that most of us are transient visitors in this type of environment, it was obvious how many of the guests relished a chance to watch a Chilean game with a Chilean. Many of them were also trying to learn Spanish as part of a study abroad program or as part of their travel. Naturally many of the accents were a bit rough, but because of the wife, the whole affair was done in Spanish. One could see how many of the visitors appreciated the chance to practice and the wife's patience with their Spanish.

2. We came in a day earlier than we expected, having covered the W faster than we expected. The husband, who liked to just come over and chat, was talking with us when we mentioned we were looking for something to do. He set us up with a friend, at a very reasonable price, to drive down out of town to visit a series of cliffs where you can see Andean Condors flying around. Not only were they flying around, they were sitting on rocks right next to the trail. It was a definite highlight of the trip (even considering we were in Torres del Paine prior), and not something we saw in other tour shops around Puerto Natales.

3. We also asked the husband about eating centolla (King Crab). He made a bunch of phone calls and eventually found a fisherman friend of his with a stash. So one night we took over the kitchen and had a king crab feast.

Maybe these all seem like minor things... but to us they added up to hosts that were kind, generous, and wanted us to enjoy ourselves. They succeeded, and we wanted to recommend to other travelers out there, who don't have the money for a hotel but don't want to be treated like cattle, that this is a great place.
