“Super comfy beds in a really cosy house”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

This cute little hostel only has three rooms (two double, one dorm). Our bed was really comfy and the room well heated. Bathrooms were super clean as was the kitchen. Breakfast was really nice with good bread etc. Owners and staff were really friendly and on call next door whenever you needed them. Highly recommended!

So glad i picked this hostel, we were just there for one night but got so much help from David and Laura and felt so at home that I wish I had been there for longer. The place just has a few rooms so it feels very safe and friendly. David was there to welcome us when we arrived, weary after a day of travelling and gave us great advice on where to eat etc. He was so friendly without being overbearing and dealt really well with a double booking. The help-yourself breakfast was plentyful and good and they were kind enough to let us store our bags with them while we were treking, even though we were not coming back to stay. Bathrooms and rooms where clean and everything worked. A great place to relax before or after visiting TDP.

We felt so at home in the Tin House hostel in Puerto Natales. Laura is a wonderful host- from the start she answered our questions about the W trek and the surrounding area, and let us know we could arrange everything upon arrival. The rooms were good sized, super comfy beds, a lovely lounge area and nice communal kitchen table - perfect for tea/cake planning sessions, and cooking dinners together. Really recommended.

One of the best hostels we have stayed in in Chile, where we have been travelling for 2 months. We are a couple age 30 and stayed 2 days pre-'W' and 3 nights after.

Good:
- Excellent value for chile (we got 10% off with 'get south' - double room 21 000)
- All our post 'W' laundry done and dry the night we got back from the treck!! (4000/5kg load)
- Fantastico sur messed up our reservations for the 'W' and then closed on a sunday, so Laura (the owner) sorted it all out with them on monday morning (after we had left for the park) and emailed us with our booking!
- Laura and David run a travel agency so are very knowledgable about the park. Their agency is not for backpackers (more specalised and guided trips) so there was no 'selling' or conflict of interests.
- Well equipped kitchen, big, great breakfast available any time you want it (within reason!)
- Lovely comfy bed, heaters in all the rooms, warm heavy showers
- Speedy wifi, and a speedy spare computer
- Right round the corner from the erratic rock where you can go to the 'W' talk and hire gear, and supermarket 2 blocks away.

Bad
- Nothing! We saw some people found creaky floorboards but we were in one of the double rooms that openend onto the kitchen and werent bothered by noise. Guests I found quite considereate as its only an 8 person hostel.
- Its not a party hostel - there are only 8 guests, of which 4 are likley to be couples.

We stayed here purely by chance after our other hostel had double booked us. They called in and made a reservation here for us so up we rocked. What a wonderful, warm and comfortable place to rest up after the trek. We were in the dorm room and were one of 8 people staying here which was lovely. The breakfast was great and included eggs. Also catered for those leaving early. Good wifi. Laundry service offered. Outdoor area with hammock. Don't stay here if looking for a party. Two clean bathrooms. We didn't cook in the kitchen but was a good size and looked well equipped. Would recommend and stay again for sure.

We stayed in one of the double rooms in the Tin House for two nights pre hike and stayed for one night in the dorm room post hike. The house is cosy and warm with a heater in each room. The bathrooms are shared (there are two) and are both clean with warm showers. A maximum of 8 people can stay at any one time.

The kitchen is well equipped and we felt very comfortable using it to make dinner and sandwiches for our hike. Breakfast is very good. Its laid out early morning and consists of soya bread, yoghurt, fruit, jam, tea, coffee, eggs (you cook them yourself), fruit juice and cereal.

We didn't see much of our hosts David or Laura as they were out of town for the first night but when we did catch them they were attentive and friendly. David is a Torres del Paine guide so he's a good person to get tips from. We also left our stuff in their secure lock up while we hiked which was kind of them.

The living room is very cosy and there is WiFi and assess to a computer.

The house/floor boards are very creaky with most guests getting up early to set off on their hike so bear this in mind. Take ear plugs if you intend to stay for more than one night or are a light sleeper.

Location is great. To enter the house in the evening you need a key code which changes daily. Make sure you note this down!! I forgot on our last night and had to wake David up to let us in. Sorry David!!!!

I would definitely recommend as it has a warm homely which is much needed after the hike and the breakfast is good quality.

Room Tip: All are fine.

We stayed at Tin House pre and post the W trek. Just a hop skip and a jump from the Bus Sur stop and Erratic Rock to listen to the daily talk but not too far from anything else. David and Laura were the perfect hosts from sorting our bus to the park to our laundry when we got back. It was really nice to know that you were coming back to a cozy warm bed and an awesome brekkie. BTW the restaurant on the corner (about the only one open during that magical 2 hours of lunchtime) does a mean hamburger and the coffee shop on that same side of the street about a block or two down bakes their own pies - the strawberry and the lemon pies were great (carb loading right!?!)
