Great hostel! Loved the private double room. Met some really nice, friendly people who shared their Torres del Paine stories and tips. Great place to stay before and after hiking. Super friendly staff...they even baked cookies and shared them with the hostel patrons when I was there!

The only thing I didn't really like was that at the '3 o'clock talk' (which is an awesome discussion about the Torres del Paine hike) they were very firm on how they recommended doing the hike. They strongly recommend you go from left to right and base the discussion on that. They have a good reason for this - that way your pack is lightest on the most uphill part which is the Torres. At the talk they also keep talking about how unpredictable the weather is and how you shouldn't base your plans on the weather cause it can change at any time. Well the day we went to the park it was beautiful and sunny. At the ranger station the guides there told us in two days the weather would turn - it was gonna get highly windy, rainy, and even may snow. The park rangers recommended we go right to left to see the best parts - The Torres & the Valley de Frances while the weather was still good. We made a last minute call and took there advice - which saved our trip! We had two amazing days of sunshine and got to see the two most beautiful parts of the hike. Just as the rangers predicted the weather turned and everyone who took the "go left to right, dont pay attention to the weather" missed the Valley and the Torres cause it was too cloudy to see anything. We really lucked out and in my option Patagonia is Patagonia - the weather can change at any moment. But, if there are some predictions out there, you are better off following those then nothing.

I got Erratic Rock recommended to me by 3 different fellow travelers, so tested their judgement. The truth is that getting there, that feeling got confirmed, I had a very warm welcome. I was doubting about leaving the next day to to the W, but as I was going to do it alone and only arrived at 9pm, things were a bit tight. Ruth gave a quick overview of their 3 o'clock talk and reassured me.
Their are a few reasons why they only score average for me:
* rooms are small, there isn't even space to put everyones stuff inside the room. There are only very small lockers underneath the benches in the common room.
* I wasn't informed there was no hot water before 8am, so had to take an ice-cold shower before leaving on the trek.
* I was very unlucky with the fellow people staying there, as they didn't consider people were actually getting up at 6am to go trekking, so barging in at 2am and at 4am without consideration wasn't an abnormality.

I have to say, Bill and his staff are great people though!

Erratic Rock is a great option if you're staying in Puerto Natales. The rooms are far from spacious, but this is made up for by the laid back vibe of the hostel itself.

The pub next door offers cheap food and beer, and the book exchange is great as well.

Breakfast was -- as advertised on the website -- a hiker's breakfast! It was hearty and delicious. The staff at the hostel are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Erratic Rock was, hands down, the best hostel I stayed at in Chile.

Stayed there for a week in last season, and I was surprised by the friendliness of the staff. They don't treat you as customers, but rather as family members! The facilites are also pretty good, and the overall vibe of the place is unbelievable. Probably it's not the most comfortable place in town, but it's surely the best one in terms of cost-benefit, and you'll surely want to come back for more!

In addition to the great hostel, the same folks run a pub and rental center next doors - how can it get better?

We stayed 3 different times during our time in Chile. Great feel, with good people. It is a bit small and cramped even by hostel standards. Great selection of movies to waste a night. The Base Camp Pub next door is a great place to drink some beer, get a cheap meal and mingle with fellow trekkers.

Room Tip: If there are 2 of you, ask for the Cave. It's pretty private and offered the best nights sleep.

I've stayed in probably over 20 hostels across Chile, Brazil and Argentina and this hostel, by far, is the best. For me, the important things are the character of the hostel, the friendliness of the staff and the atmosphere. Being on the road a lot you miss the feeling of being at home and being at ease with your surroundings. At Erratic Rock I got that straight away. Bill welcomed me by my name, as if I was a long lost friend. Everyone is so friendly and you immediately want to chat to people asking how they found their trip around TDP and how it went. The house is comfortable and personal and you enjoy spending time with each other.

The dorms are small, but the hostel is so nice and friendly that the only time you spend there is asleep. The breakfast is the best we've had in 4 months. HOME MADE OMLETTE! How good is that! Plus a selection of yoghurt, cereal and homemade bread to fill you up perfectly every morning, especially one which entails a 15 mile hike!

It also has 'Basecamp' next door. A great place to hire your gear and learn about what TDP entails whether it's a 3, 5 or 10 day hike you're doing, and all this information for free.

Bill is probably the main reason this hostel is so fantastic, so personal and so friendly. He is a super host and runs a super hostel. If you're going to Puerto Natales, you HAVE to stay here! I hope to come back.

Room Tip: There is a small double upstairs which is cheaper than the other doubles. Great for returning back a...

I was torn between three and four stars. There's a really nice atmosphere and vibe to the place, but the actual hostel facilities could use some improvement. We were staying in the "cave" a small room, right next to the kitchen, so we expected it to be small and noisy (I can't speak to the rooms upstairs). But unfortunately the bed itself was pretty uncomfortable, and the hot water in the showers was unreliable (it fluctuated between scalding hot and freezing cold the whole shower). And it's definitely a no-frills place -- you strip your sheets and put them in the laundry when you leave. Breakfast is good, if a little chaotic. But the free pisco sour is a nice touch, it's well located and the staff is friendly.
