We pulled into town and looked high and low for a hotel room, must have checked a dozen hotels, all full. Stopped by here and they had one room left at over $200, just your standard middle of the road, american hotel room. Kept looking, still no luck. Went back, room still available, thank goodness, as it was a looong way to the next town. Had a view of the ocean and could enjoy the pounding of the surf, nice. Smelled like the ocean though, not in a good way. Jellyfish all over the beach. Town was packed because it was high summer season, but not my idea of a nice beach town. Small pool in the courtyard. Nice breakfast buffet in the morning. Room would have been overpriced at half the cost, but we had since found out this was the norm in Chile.

Room Tip: Ocean view room

I think this is a good hotel for short stays and probably for families. Everything was clean, bed comfy, shower ok though the vinyl shower curtain was a bit smelly. No room service though I was told about a good sushi place nearby that delivered. Free wi fi which is a bonus especially considering I've paid $29 a day for it in 5 star hotels. Very nice service which to be honest is unusual in the north of Chile

Room Tip: Make sure you check your request for non smoking is confirmed in advance!

Remember it is a Holiday Inn Express. Excellent location. Cross the street and you are in a great beach. Spacious room with sea view. Very good service. FREE Internet in rooms. Breakfast could have more variety of goods.

Room Tip: Choose upper rooms with sea view.

I really would have liked to rate the Holiday Inn in Iquique Excellent””, but feel let down by them over a couple of (perhaps) small incidents.
Firstly, they sent an email of confirmation along with a message to let them know if they could be of any further assistance. I sent a reply to this one asking if they could either assist with transport from my arrival point, or advise on best transport to take. The email bounced back undelivered. A second was then sent to the hotel itself. No reply was ever received.
Secondly, when I did arrive, and advised them that I would have to leave early the following morning, the receptionist advised that a breakfast box would be made up for me. It never was.
Now for the positives. Due to the schedule of the bus I was travelling in, I arrived well before the usual check in time. However, I went to the hotel in the hope of at least placing my luggage in storage at least until the correct check in time. However, because my room was already ready for occupancy, they allowed me in earlier. A huge plus, as I was very badly in need of a shower and change of clothes. The room itself was very roomy, with an excellent array of furnishings and even toiletries. It even had a coffee maker, although there was no creamer of milk.
The hotel itself is some distance from the town centre, but well located if guests are merely interested in the beach activities. Taxi rates from the hotel also seem to vary considerably despite the same distance being covered. Yet, the hotel says they have a deal with them.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach view room.

Located near the beach. Weather was beautiful. Be sure to get out and run along the beach. Lots of activities nearby. Traffic facing the ocean-view rooms may be a bit loud. Try to get a room high up if you need ocean-view.

Room Tip: Weather was beautiful. Be sure to get out and run along the beach. Lots of activities nearby.

Located in front of the beach and close to the downtown and main restaurants. The general standard is very good and is the same of typical Holiday In Express worlwide. The rooms are comfortables and the free breakfast is very good, you can take it in the backyard (pool side) as well. It has a little food store with essential products if you prefer eat something simple in the dinning room or in your own room.
The staff is very friendly, in fact for us was easy to obtain an early check inn. Free parking is also included.

Room Tip: Cheaper rooms have a good view to the pool.

Disappointments:
From their website: In addition to unbeatable service, our guests enjoy terrific perks, including an outdoor, heated pool, a whirlpool. The pool is actually "solar" heated, meaning if the sun comes out the water is warm- as it is spring with coastal fog and sea breezes the pool and worse yet the outdoor whirlpool were very cold. The whirlpool was also filthy. When I mentioned to the staff that the whirlpool was cold, the clerk gave me a smirk as she responded "¡Claro! No está verano todavía! (Of course! It's not summer yet!)

Rooms come with a coffee pot in the room-- BUT YOU GET ONLY ONE PACKET OF COFFEE-- no matter how long your stay. Do not bother asking for more. You are told you may go to the lobby for coffee.

Bathroom floor tiles can use a good scrubbing. I had to ask the maid how to open the sink drain- the lift did not work. We had to pluck it out. Highly recommend purchasing bottled water. As water comes from deep wells it is highly mineralized and tastes awful. Taxi driver chuckled to us how it often affects tourists.

We had ocean views, but silly me I presumed we were on the beach. The beach is across a busy double boulevard. The beach is not suitable nor safe for swimming, just sun bathing.

Morning breakfast food service (included) was unable to keep up with the last hour rush of a full hotel on holiday mode. Scrambled eggs tended to be too runny and were cold.

Good Points
It appears to be the only hotel that has relatively easy access to the ocean. The others are are up on a bluff or face the bay.

Rooms have usual amenities found in the room- note room-420 had a picture window that expanded only half the wall, while room 422 had a full wall picture window. As the surf is strong and a shore break the sound does travel to the rooms and was very nice.

Room Tip: Ocean views well worth the price otherwise you view the back side of condos. Select rooms numbers ab...
