“Impressive hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2008

We spent 4 nights at this hotel and enjoyed the experience.

The reception area is spacious and has 3 PCs with internet access. You can buy an hour's internet card for $3 or 3 hours for $7. Our room was fine, though the walls were thin and we could hear the next room's TV (which was left on throughout one night).

The pool is smart and, whilst not huge, was never over-busy. There is a restaurant and a snack bar, though be warned - the 'snacks' are large (e.g. a club sandwich turned out to be 4 sandwiches plus chips and salad).! But there is no reason to eat in the hotel as there are so many restaurants in Siem Reap town, just a few minutes away by tuc-tuc.

Convenient for the Angkor Wat area and the airport.

After reading all the reviews from tripadvisor we decided to book our rooms at Tara. The hotel is pretty new so everything was really clean. Their breakfast which was included was awesome. I thought their service and staff were above average. The location was perfect as it was about 10 minutes to everything. I would totally recommend this place to my friends and family.

Few minor issues... The shower - It took a long time for water to drain. Also they don't have free WiFi, and you have to buy this card. However we had serveral problems with the computer and it was really slow.

To visit different temples, I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a tour guide. You can take the Tuk Tuk, but it's really hot and dusty. It was really nice to be in a car with AC. Our guide SAM KIMSEUR was EXCELLENT. If you would like his contact info, email me.

  • Liked — Close to everything, and all the rooms were clean

My boy friend and I stayed at Tara Angkor for 4 nights in November 08. We booked the hotel as it was recommended by Trip Advisor but we were very disappointed with Tara in many ways.

We booked a double room but we were taken to a twin room - when we asked for a double room instead the staff got openly annoyed. He said they can put the beds together to make a double bed - we said that would be fine but we want it done before the end of the day and he said we have to wait until the next day.

The hotel itself is new so the building was still quite clean and the room seemed okay. However the walls between rooms are very thin and we were woken up by the next door neighbors (both sides) watching TV a couple of times and we could hear most of their conversation.

We woke up early one morning to see sunrise and went back to the hotel to sleep again at 9am. However the hotel decided to start some construction work from 9am which involved drilling and banging and it didn't stop until we complained about it several times.

What made solving all these problems even more difficult was the fact most of the receptionists spoke very little English.

After long day of going around the temples of Angkor, we wanted to chill out by the hotel pool. However when we went to the pool there were so many little kids running around, jumping into the pool, etc so we were not even able to swim. This is definitely not a place you'd like to stay if you wanted to have a relatively quiet chilled out time by the pool.

There was even a problem at the time of check out. Our reservation included free airport shuttle. Although we even had a confirmation e-mail which came directly from the hotel reservation team, it took them more than half an hour to agree that it should be free.

There are many reasonable and good value-for-money hotels in Shem Reap and you can definitely get a better place to stay for 50 pounds a night!

Good hotel but Make sure you request a non-smoking room at check-in as our first room had an unbearable smoky smell having requested a non-smoking room on the original booking. We were soon moved and enjoyed our stay

The hotel is just out of town and outside the main restaurant / night market areas and all internet access is charged for.

Watch out for nasty aggressive dogs within the area, especially if you're looking to walk back to the hotel in the evening. They don't seem to be a problem in the day.

Stayed here for 3 nights having seen reviews on this site.

Hotel is good - clean, nice pool, good breakfasts, smart rooms. A little way out of town (but convenient for the temples) and no problems with getting tuk tuks etc around as needed. Staff were friendly and always tried to be helpful.

Would recommend - although for $95/night (package included transfers, 1xdinner, internet card etc) would expect it to be good!

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of November on the back of the reviews on tripadvisor and weren't let down.

I would highly praise the staff in this hotel after numberous incidents of above and beyond the normal service expected, after a hetic bus journey from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap the cleaning staff reorganised our room from 2 twins beds to a king bed 2 minutes after been requested, (wasn't on our booking reference), they also help us print out our plane tickets for our journey hope without charge, giving us a internet card that had been handed back, we were also facilated with a 3 pm check out with the offer of using all the facilities until our 8 pm flight home.

Breakfast is excellent with a choice to suit everyone's taste. The rooms are very spacious and extreemly clean with some over looking the pool. The hotel is located just outside the town but getting a tuk tuk into town is very easy and should cost about $2.

The people in cambodia are very friendly, I would recommend Angkor Wat for sun rise and sugest at least 2 days touring around the temples.

Overall this hotel exceeded my expectations, highly recommended.

I booked this hotel on a last minute website and got the room at a greatly discounted rate which also included breakfast. I loved this hotel. It is situated on the edge of the town - however you can easily get around using a tuk tuk. The hotel is nicely decorated, rooms are spotless and staff are extrememly nice and obliging. The accomodated us with a late checkout on our last day as our flight was not until 8pm. I would highly recommend this hotel - especially if you get a last minute rate.
