“Family trip to Siem Reap”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

Great value guesthouse. Lovely staff and nothing was too much trouble. Great helping with excursions. Good value restaurant with western and local food. Nice pool, small but perfect for children to relax after a day at the temples. I would next time book one of the rooms with a balcony for the small extra cost.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony.

This was my 5th trip to Cambodia in the past 5 years, and second time staying at Tanei Guesthouse, because I believe it is an excellent accommodation choice in Siem Reap.
Tanei has recently built an extension, so the rooms in the two newer buildings are definitely preferable. The rooms in the newest building are EXCELLENT, as rooms one would find in a much higher price bracket.
We stayed in a Deluxe Double and Deluxe Triple room. It came breakfast inclusive, with a free massage for each guest with a 3 night stay, or bottle of wine for a 4 night stay.
The pool is well presented, staff are friendly and helpful, and tuk tuk drivers who operate outside the guesthouse are honest with price when you use them a couple of times.

EXCELLENT amenities and price, I will surely stay again on my return!

Room Tip: Go for a room in the newer buildings. Also, there are a lot of stairs, so if this is a challenge, op...

The first day they insisted offering us a tuk-tuk for visiting the Angkor temples, they did not explained well the conditions, and the result was an expensive half day tour with an unfriendly driver, so we lost half a day, very disappointing. The second and third day they have free bicycles and it was much better, and the staff was kind.
The guesthouse is not the big thing but they have a nice pool, not bad breakfast and a good location, near downtown.
The room is quite large, with free water everyday, minibar, quite clean. The bathroom was not so good, the floor was flooded every time you have a shower.

Tanei Guesthouse is an excellent place to stay whilst in Siem Reap. From the moment of checking in to checking out all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was large, modern and clean. Breakfast and WiFi are included. There is also a pool for when you need to escape the Cambodian heat and humidity and if you don't fancy a dip there is always the air conditioning in the rooms. The guesthouse is in a great location. Just a short walk from the Night Markets and Pub Street. There are always tuk tuk near by the entrance in case you don't feel like walking. It was the nicest place my partner and I stayed in during our 3 week holiday. We would definitely stay at Tanei Guesthouse again.

Very cheap, with swimming pool, breakfast in price, surely worth the $20 we paid! The staff was friendly, though it was rather full. They have a new building built, so the rooms are now better than the best! It is very near the center of Siem Reap, and you can take a Tuk-Tuk to Angkor... this is the best guesthouse I have stayed in in Siem Reap... Only it is a pity that we had to leave so soon!

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony at the pool are the best places to rest.

Firstly ill start with the negatives. What seems to be a common complaint from the reviews I've read happened to us. Despite booking online the Tanei had no room for us on our first night there. However they were very apologetic and arranged for us to stay at the Angkor Ancient hotel across (which was really nice I hasten to add). Also when we came back the next day they upgraded us to one of the suites in the new building at no extra cost. So fair play to them. What i will say though is that as nice as the room is the noise from the pool tends to echo and you hear everything. However the pool closes at a reasonable time at night so no big issue. Secondly the breakfast was pretty measly , so much so that my partner and I both went for $1 noodles from the woman at the cart across the road an hour later. Not a major hassle as Cambodian food is lovely.

Other than that I would heartily recommend this place. Room was really nice, staff from top to bottom were really friendly. It's 5 minutes from pub street and the night market, although some people might not like the street with half a dozen crazy women who try to get you into their eateries. Most folk however will take it with the good nature its intended as a firm no is all that's required and its all part of the fun of being in Cambodia. You might even, like us, give one of the places a try one night and, like us, find that the food is fantastic.

The Tanei is a good hotel in a good location with friendly helpful staff at a decent price. What more can you ask for?

Tanei G.H. is simply the best place we stayed in a 5 week trek around the country. We paid an off season rate of $20 and got a spacious, clean, well appointed room. For this price, it comes with a nice breakfast. The swimming pool is great as is the service. Because we stayed 9 nights we each got a free massage and a 750mm bottle of Italian red wine.

This place is a must. Book directly. The more expensive rooms have only a queen size bed.
