Stay in a hotel for a good cause and feel like you're at home with the friendly and attentive service. Sala Bai is a hotel and restaurant training school that provides free tuition to people from remote villages of Cambodia who live in poverty, to help fight human trafficking before it starts. Rooms in the hotel are well kept and act as a training ground for housekeeping students. Food in the restaurant offers both Asian and Western options and are very delicious. Spend an afternoon with the Directors of the school and the students to learn about the program. You will immediately feel attached to the cause and feel right at home.

I was expecting the rooms to be really plain n simple judging fr the outside but i was pleasantly surprised when the standard room door opened!

The mosquito net and nice table lamp gave the room a romantic glow.

The sheets are clean (budget places normally aren't), & the bed is almost like a luxury hotel's.

Tooth brush not provided but shampoo sachet, bar of soap n towels r.

Besides, every dollar spent here goes to preventing human trafficking by equipping underprivileged youths with hospitality skills.

This is a training hotel school,so be kind and patient to the students!

My room at Sala Bai was nicely decorated, very clean (serviced twice a day!), calm, fully air conditioned and with a good en-suite shower - exactly what you need after exploring temple after temple in Angkor.

What takes this hotel from good to great, though, is its ueber-friendly staff! The reason therefore is that Sala Bai is not a normal hotel, but a hotel school that offers young, disadvantaged Cambodians the chance for a better future by training them in a number of hotel related skills.

Any revenues generated through the hotel go towards funding the hotel school. And the students thank it to their guests with the most beautiful smiles and an ever helpful attitude!

As a result I felt genuinely good about my stay - because the accommodation (and breakfast - which is not included in the room rate, but definitively worth it's money) was lovely and because I feel I could make at least a small contribution to the future of Cambodia.

Salabai is a hotel school that trains young Cambodians to hospitality jobs. This school has a social and educational vocation. The training hotel and restaurant give the students the opportunity to learn and get work experience. During my stay in Seam Reap, I met several Cambodians who were trained at Sala Baï and who are now working in the hotels or restaurants of Siem Reap.
Good welcome by a student at the reception. Check-in was quick.
The room was a standard room with twin beds. It is quite small, with basic furniture. There is no safe in the room. Internet access is available by Wifi only. The room was clean but bed linen was stained. Pillows are very hard. Beds are equipped with mosquito nets.
The bathroom is very small and not convenient. There is no shower cubicle, just a drain hole. So when you take a shower, the whole toilet-shower room is flooded. Water smelled of rust strongly.
Breakfast is served at 0700 am, which was too late for me.
The hotel is situated 10 min walk from the city center and Capitol bus stop. There are lots of restaurants, laundries, bike rentals...nearby. I recommend Sala baï to those who want to support its social project and who are not very demanding about comfort.

If you get the chance to book the suite, do so. It is absolutely worth the money and you have so much space. The room has everything you need and is made twice a day. It is not a luxury hotel, but a good spot in Siem Reap. The students and the other staff is very helpful with organizing tour guides and Tuk Tuks from and to the airport. When reserving, e-mails seems to work better than calling due to some limitations in spoken english, but in the end it all works out.
We ate breakfast (extra cost), which was plenty, fresh and nicely presented.
Central market, night market and pretty much everything is in walking distance.

Room Tip: Book the suite if available. Worth the money and supporting a good cause.

We found the details for the Sala Bai hotel in the Lonely Planet guide. This is a training hotel that gives underpriveledged young people a chance to learn the hotel and restaurant trade. The hotel is non-profit making, all the funds go back towards the costs of traning which is why we didn't object to spending slightly more than we did in other hotels. The staff are wonderful and it is obvious that they truly appreciate the opportunity they've been given. The rooms are spotlessly clean and itis the only hotel we stayed in on our travels where we had the bed turned down - even in the 4* hotels we didn't get this service! If you're heading to Siem Reap please spend at least one night there as it really does give these young people a head start.

We stayed here over the New Years period, and as such the students were on holidays for the first few days we were there. So it was quiet, clean, and fairly comfortable.
Once the students came back it was a whole new ball game! The students are always super-friendly and polite and happy to see you! The teachers are wonderful to speak to if you get a chance. The accomodation is a couple of dollars more than what you could pay elsewhere but to be honest, it goes to a very good cause. 100% employment of graduates in the last 8 years! It's wonderful news. Everyone here should be very proud of themselves, and everyone who goes to Siem Reap should consider staying here.

Our only problem with staying here was that when our washing returned (particularly the whites), they returned a bit brown. It didnt ruin our stay but if you have lights that you really like I recommend just getting them cleaned elsewhere, or find a laundromat at some point and DIY.
