“Paris Bistro in Siem Reap”
Reviewed May 8, 2014 via mobile

We were a group of three guys who were visiting Siem Reap on a golf weekend. Having been there many times, we knew the local food scene pretty well. We had heard this new French bistro had opening just recently, and knew the reputation of the owners other venues, so decided to give it a go

We were not disappointed as the food was excellent, as was the service. The French owner Serge was on hand to ensure we were well taken care of. Soon after being seated we were brought complimentary starters, likely a perk due to their recent soft opening.

All of us have been to France on numerous occasions, and this was surely no attempt at a local rip off of the French bistro. Look and feel are genuine, and this is a great option if you are looking for that special meal away from the crowds of Pub Street.

Recommend wholeheartedly !!

“Two very happy diners”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

You often take a risk dining in an upmarket Place such as the Kings Road restaurant complex in a tourist tow such as SR. That is the risk of average food at inflated prices. Well we took that risk and left very very happy we did take that risk.
The Kings Road area is only new and by the look of the numbers visiting the restaurants i.e. next to none they are not doing very well at all. It is just a little too far from Pub Street area so will nit get too much walk by customers. It is not the type of places back packers or those on a budget will gravitate too. We decided to give it a go after a series of just average meals in the Old market / Pub Street zone. Admittedly they weer cheap but why travel this far for just ok??

After a stroll around we decided upon Chez Paul as we were after a change from Khmer cuisine,
and the menu looked good. We had 3 starters, 2 mains, couple of beers, a free reasonable quality wine and a couple of cooling cokes for 53$. This was outstanding value. Similar quality meal in Melbourne would have been closer to 150$ or more! We did not have dessert because we were full! The grand mothers terrine was simply excellent, the deep fried small fish very good with the beer and the Pork pate - which really was a brawn - full of flavour. The serving size was very big and top value at less than 6$ each! we had ordered the escargot but they had none left.

For mains I had the classic beef bourguignon. This was so good. melt in the mouth beef - only criticism was a couple of bits may have been overly fatty and a touch over salted. But the depth of flavour was high! I had a side of potato that soaked up the sauce beautifully. My partner had the scallop risotto. This too was excellent, six flavour packed scallops with a very very creamy rich risotto. Only criticism was that it was so rich that the serving size was too large.

For a restaurant of this quality the drink prices are very good. I.e 2 glasses of very drinkable Chilean sauv Blanc for 6$. A larger tiger at $4.50. The beer though was not cold enough for an Australian palate. They can rectify that over time though.

You can also if you wish go all out for a more expensive meal. they have some interesting options, a seafood dish for two at 67$ being one. Most mains though were less than 15$ and most starters less than 7$ but there were several more expensive options.
The service was very good, a couple of English communication errors were met with a smile and laugh.

If we had eaten here when we first arrived in SR we would have returned again, definitely. I was highly surprised with the quality of the meal for the price paid. hope they can attract more customers and keep up the standards.

“Surprisingly excellent”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

We went there during soft opening after the Khmer New Year, so they are forgiven for not having all dishes on the menu available. But what eventually came to our table was amazingly excellent. I'm quite particular when it comes to French food, having eaten in some of the country's (France that is, not Cambodia) most esteemed Michelin starred restaurants, but the chef at Paul really knows his métier.
The foie gras terrine was one my favourites, creamy, savoury and beautiful. The duck carpaccio was perfectly dressed and paper thin and delicious.
We came back for more the next day. Foie gras poêlé, cooked à point with nice chutney on the side and a really tasty ordinary chunk of headcheese with proper baguette. Just delicious.
Add to that competent servive (not common in Cambodia), a good, casual enough bistro atmosphere and an affordable, small, but well chosen, wine list, and we have a real winner.
Highly recommended for food AND value.

Dear Madame,

Thank you so much for your comment, just few question for you if you can send it to my official email Address- prmanager@angkorw.com

1. When and what time did it happened?
2. Where you able to noticed the name of the staff who serve you as everybody has a name plate so that the company can give a proper action to this staff who was not prepared.

In addition , i just would like as well to answer your comment.

- basically we have 13 outlets with on the city which SERVES DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF FOODS and in Chez M Paul we serve classic FRENCH FOOD ONLY.

- you did not mention what was your request in this comment.

-Is it the English of the staff? or the explanation of the menu?

- i don't think that we are high price because mostly restaurants in town has a common price and not very high than each other.

Lastly, the restaurant is newly opened and F&B team is undergoing tight training to meet the satisfaction and expectation of every client coming at the restaurant

Looking forward to receive your email

“Best French Food in Siem Reap”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Outstanding service and smiling staff. Food is equal to the best French restaurants in any major city in the world, New York, London, etc etc.
Some of the best foi gras I have ever had anywhere and the glazed apples were great.
House wines are good and reasonable but a nice selection of other wines by the bottle.
Table settings are the same as a 5 star restaurant in Paris. This is a newly open (1 week) place in the Kings Road Entertainment Complex. A short 3 minute walk across the bridge from the Old Market. You have to try this place for some great food and relaxing time away from the Pub Street noise.
