“The Most Unique Hotel Experience”
Reviewed September 4, 2007

My wife and I visited Thailand and Cambodia on our Honeymoon and stayed in all 5* hotels (i.e. The Peninsula in Bangkok) and this was hands down our favorite.

This hotel is a perfect alternative to the large commercialized resorts that pepper the entire town.

The stay started with the hotel picking us up at the airport and providing us with our choice among several fresh fruit juices, provided a cold towel to wash our faces and presented us with a traditional flowers. As we drove to the hotel they kindly pointed out some of the sights as we made our way through Siem Reap.

Once at the hotel, they provided a second welcome drink and moved all of our luggage to our room as we checked in. We were given a quick and informative briefing of the property and were then lead to our room.

The room was amazing. As we were on our Honeymoon, it was set up with rose petals in the shape of a heart on our bed, the bathtub was also full of water and petals and the candles were lit for a romantic atmosphere. The room was designed in a way that provided instant relaxation. It included a private garden in the back and an outdoor shower. It was free of any modern electronics and just allowed you to relax.

After settling into our room, we arranged with the hotel for a driver and guide of Angkor Wat and the surrounding area. They did this quickly and provided a great driver/guide combination.

After the day touring the sights, we came back to the oasis of our hotel and had an amazing private dinner next to the pool. There was a great selection of Khmer, French and other international cuisines available. The prices were more than reasonable. Since it was after dark, the hotel lit a fire pit that is attached to the pool. After dinner we stopped by the marketplace shop and purchased a few gifts to bring home with us. The shop was reasonably priced (certainly can get less expensive items elsewhere, but you ensure the quality by buying it at the hotel).

The next morning we awoke and traveled to Angkor Wat to watch the sunrise. This day we had the hotel's driver take us and he was more than accommodating. After returning to the hotel, we enjoyed the breakfast that is included with any stay. It was a feast. I chose the pancake breakfast (it was the best pancake I have ever eaten outside of the US). My wife had the egg breakfast.

After breakfast we enjoyed a nice morning at the pool. The pool is a saltwater pool that they cool down during the day to keep it refreshing. It is crystal clear water and they have plenty of lounge chairs.

All in all this was an amazing hotel. All request were handled quickly and professionally. The staff is top notch and easy to communicate with. I would recommend this hotel as a truly special place to stay when visiting Siem Reap.

The way to the hotel was a little worrying but when we got there we realised we had made a very, very good choice indeed. It is a gem of a find!
As we had the usual concerns related to internet bookings, we were so relieved to find that this boutique hotel exceeded expectations. Also, as Heritage Suites is relatively new, we couldn't find any reviews online.
The lobby-reception area was impressive and we admired the way they used the space as a bar, restaurant, lounge and gallery.
The management and staff, a cosmopolitan mix of Canadian, French, Chinese and locals, were very friendly, unpretentious, and they really made an effort to make the lobby a relaxing place to chill out in the evenings.
One evening they set up a slide show which we enjoyed with our dinner while seated on the upper balcony.
The bungalow suite (named 'Lily') we had was huge and very good value. The bed was a good size, firm and very comfortable. The bath fittings and lighting was very designer looking and the private, attached steam room was luxurious.
Towels and bathrobes were a good size, well supplied and fluffy.
The pool is very nice... deep blue tiles, wooden deck and saline water... My husband and I truly enjoyed floating in the pool during the afternoons... after a massage and lunch. We hit the temples again, at around 4 o'clock. It really helped us unwind.
I would recommend this hotel as a romantic getaway to couples who are not into the big glitzy hotels. We realised that even some of the larger famous hotels in Siem Reap had only a view of the slums by the river.
You can really see and appreciate what the owners and management are trying to do with the place. It is simple yet sophisticated. It would be interesting to return after 3-4 years to see how it has grown.
As we are very pleased with our experience at Heritage Suites Siem Reap, I am planning to visit the Matahari in Bali (also part of the Relais & Chateaux group).

This Boutique Hotel was a real find! It's located in the Wat Po Lanka area, about a ten-minute walk off the main hotel strip and only a twenty minute ride to Angkor Wat. The hotel is seven months young and the design is very Zen: peaceful, visually beautiful, detail oriented and unique. The owners are Chinese and French engineers, who have created something very special. The hotel has both individual rooms and private "bungalow" suites. The food is gourmet, plentiful and not expensive. Breakfast is served poolside and dinner on the balcony, overlooking the spacious bar and comfortable lobby below. Transportation is provided to and from the airport and the staff will help you plan your tour of the temples and archeological ruins at Angkor Wat. There is also a boutique on the premises, where you can find local crafts and artifacts. The staff is well trained and gracious. The service is personalized, so don't be alarmed if they remember your favorite tea! A definite must, especially if you're not a mega-hotel person. Check out their website at [----]
