This hotel provided my extended family an affordable, very comfortable hotel. All amenities including a salt water and a fresh water pool. The restaurant had very affordable and excellent value for money meals. The hotel has an excellent location close to the river and market stalls both day and night. Quiet. Great value.

We enjoyed our stay at Royal Crown - great value and I would stay here again.Normally I write reviews of all the places I stay in the name of consistency. But this one time, I'm going to break the rules and admit that I am writing this in the hope that the hotel management reads it!

So my only real problem with this hotel, and it's so easily resolvable... is the early morning noise of furniture being dragged around on the floors above when the rooms are being cleaned. This starts extremely early in the morning - like before 5am I think. It's the sound of heavy wooden furniture being pushed across a hard floor. This problem would be instantly solved by sticking soft furniture pads under the legs of chairs, tables beds etc. Now, it didn't wake my wife up, so maybe it won't be everyone's problem.

So what about the good? Excellent buffet breakfast (although it finishes quite early) - way better than many more expensive hotels I've stayed at. Fresh bread, croissaints, bacon, pancakes, salads, fruit, egg station, noodles - you name it.

The pools were lovely - lovely to spend time and relax at, but both of them are adjacent to the parking area at the front, which means fumes from idling tourist pick-up buses can pollute the air somewhat. Again, this will be solved easily. Lovely cheap food and drink available pool-side.

Lovely friendly staff - especially the cleaning staff - so friendly!

Rooms were fine, nice and spacious. They haven't quite pulled-off the 'open bathroom' concept, I would rather a bit more privacy.

Here's a tip - don't ask the hotel to arrange a tuc tuc for you. If you do, all that happens is that they call one over from across the street and charge you extra. You can do this yourself - there are ALWAYS tuc tuc drivers outside the hotel and as anyone will tell you, they are quite safe and reliable, compared with other places. Don't ask the hotel.

But... it's still a great hotel in terms of value. Bright and airy inside, Very attractive, well located, 5 mins walk from Bar street. I will recommend this place... just about!

Room Tip: Top floor room would mean no noise from rooms above!

Good things first. Big and clean room with all the comfort you can expect from a 60$ Twin Room in Cambodia: TV, kettle and tea/coffe, bathrobe and slippers, shampoo etc. Breakfast is included, the buffet ist just phantastic. The pool is big enough to really swimm. Because the Royal Crown seems to be a catalogue-tourist-party-hotel, we feared the pool might be crowded (as was the breakfast room at 7am), but we were mostly alone in the afternoon.

Two things we did not like: First, the half open bathroom; we would have prefered more privacy. Second the service when we checked-in. We booked and payed for the big Deluxe Twin, they put us in the smaller and cheaper Superior Twin. When asked to move us to the booked Deluxe Room a stone-faced employee showed us the right room, no apology came from his mouth. We had to move our luggage by ourself. What a lousy service.

My group of 3 adults stayed at the Royal Crown Hotel and Spa from 29 Nov-3 Dec 2012.
The location is very good, just 3-5 minutes walk to the Old Market. The rooms in the new wing are spacious and very clean. Linens and towels are fluffy white. Breakfast for 3 days varied, unlike other hotels that serve the same choices every day.

The only complain we have is that the bathroom has no door...but just a sliding glass. Kinda awkward if you are travelling with mixed-gender friends. The room airconditioner also took a while to get cold, so once you've inserted your room card in the power slot, don't take it out anymore.

Room Tip: choose rooms from the new wing

The better rooms are in the front section of the hotel. If you use the lift which is at the side of the swimming pool and bar and adjacent to the restaurant you are in the area for the better newer rooms with significantly better bathrooms that include a separate power shower etc. The other section of the hotel located behind reception has rooms which are a little tired and less lavishly equipped.

The hotel is at the side of a fairly busy thoroughfare leading in a very short time into the centre of town and the Old Market area. You are within a flat 5 minute walk of the Old Market / Pub Street / Night Market area. Reception is clean and the staff are unfailingly polite and friendly ~ a trait I observed in the half a dozen hotels I stayed in whilst travelling around Vietnam and Cambodia. Unfortunateyl the reception area is not air conditioned and can get a little warm, it also seem to get quiet a few insects in the area so I avoided sitting in the chair around reception too much. During my stay I was allocated two different rooms (218 and 416) The first room (218) was in the newer part of the hotel and had an up to date feel about it – the decoration was new and the bathroom very swish with both a good size bath and a separate power shower area. The second room was of a similar size and decorative style. However the second room was not as freshly decorated and the bathroom was definitely inferior with a tired and clearly older bathroom suite which made do with a shower over the bath tub.
The breakfast was as you would expect from a mid range European style hotel. Plenty of quality fruit juices, a good selection of breakfast cereals, a nice salad area some cooked food (but not traditional bacon and eggs). There was an omelette chef in the corner as well. Good quality coffee and tea are available.
The hotel does cater for a significant number of holiday groups which does on occasion make the reception area regularly quie busy as they all try to check in and check out together. It also caused quiet a bit of congestion at breakfast time as the groups often move on or go out on day trips together resulting in many people turning up for breakfast at a similar time and the outcome at times was it could be a bit of a struggle to find an un occupied table.
One slight surprise was that when I asked for a second key this seemed to cause the staff a lot of disquiet and I did have to persevere to get one, it was supplied but the challenge it caused did seem a little strange for a mid range hotel of this character. Over all a satisfying stay and good value if booked in advance on one of the internet booking sites like tripadvisor.

I stayed here for the last 2 nights of a 500km charity cycle ride which started in Vietnam. It was lovely to have a little luxury for our last 2 days and the hotel didn't disappoint. Breakfast was to die for and the staff were friendly and attentive. Some spoke very little English but there was always someone to translate near by. The rooms were huge and the location was 2nd to none. The beds are very firm, but I like that so I slept like a baby. My only gripe is that they mislaid my laundry by sending it to the wrong room but I got it eventually and then realised that there's a launderette next door which does 1kg clothes for $1. A lot of my group used this and had no issues. If I'm ever in Siem Reap again, I'll definitely stay here.
