“Little Oasis in crazy busy Siem Reap”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

Booked this hotel for a trip with a group. It was a great choice. The staff were really friendly and relaxed. We booked a standard twin villa. This was a two floor villa. Two double beds on separate floors a great bathroom with rain shower. And a little terrace to relax in. Breakfast was included and there was both Asian flavoured and Western flavoured breakfast choice. Central to all this was the pool, restaurant and bar. A great place to relax after a long day sightseeing was the pool. The food was good and the cocktails were really cheap. A great place to stay which is short walk to Siem Reap Old Market and other attractions. It's quite noisy at night but nothing to do with the hotel itself more to do with dogs and roosters outside the hotel. Nothing a good pair of ear plugs can't fix. Highly recommend this for a good long stay.

We recently stayed for 4 nights with our 7 year old daughter and another family. We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Everyone we encountered at the Golden Banana was extremely friendly and helpful. We never saw anyone without a smile on their faces and they were always happy to accomodate our plans etc...
The location is fabulous and within easy walking distance to the main downtown area. Our rooms were adorable, all around a lovely pool. The food was very good as well and reasonably priced. It didn't matter where we went after, we kept saying to one another "nice hotel, but it isn't the Golden Banana".
The staff were all very good with the children we were with. We were guided to stay at the Hotel versus the Resort (all really in one main complex so to speak) as we had family and that proved to be perfect. The intimate atmosphere meant we could be in our room and see our daughters playing in the pool or ordering a drink.
All in all, a wonderful stay at a laid back and cozy resort. I highly recommend!

This lovely boutique hotel has so much going for it, Value, location, size, simplicity and a great comfortable feel about it. But... if they don't pay attention it could go off very quickly. Don't get me wrong we loved it and would go back tomorrow but it's the little things that you remember down the track. The ceiling fan was on super fast and that was the low setting. The air conditioner made more noise than the jet I flew in on and the pool could have been kept a bit cleaner. Had these things been taken care of this place would be perfect. It is about 40m from the night market and then a walk across the river to the market and the nearby Pub St. precinct. The hotel organised all of our tours and tuk tuk drivers, Tonle Sap Lake and Angkor Wat at a very acceptable price, including a great tour guide for the temples. We toured in the mornings and shopped and sat around the pool in the afternoons. The at night there is a selection of a hundred great restaraunts, bars and cafe's to choose from all within a very short walk. I'l go back. But I will keep the ceiling fan off.
PS the owner could invest in some electronic mozzie repelent in the rooms so we don't have to woory about it.

Dear Debbie,

Thank you for choosing Golden Banana Boutique Hotel as your preferred accommodation in Siem Reap and for taking your time to share your feedback.
We are happy to read you overall enjoyed your stay at our hotel.
Unfortunately it seems there were here and there some glitches, which made your stay not 100% perfect.
We are very sorry to hear and regret these problems where not reported to us during your stay.
Because we have two full time maintenance staff at the Hotel & Resort who are here every day to make sure all technical systems are working perfectly.
We checked the items after your report and have them adjusted, sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for letting us know.
Your remark about the pool; that is totally correct, we had to refill the pool water during your stay because of the under water lights that needed to be replaced.
It takes about 3 days for the water to stabilize and get clear again, meanwhile we advised our guests to use the pool at the Resort.
Anyway, if you guys would plan to come back and stay with us in the future, please let me know so I can offer you a special discount or nice dinner with wine to compensate the inconveniences you might had during your previous stay.

With kind regards,
Tommy

This is a great place - very friendly staff, cute place at an intersection where all the GB hotels meet. My only problem with the place is it is LOUD. All of the rooms are situated right around the pool - which is wonderful except that all of the pools have a wide fountain in them, so there is constant noise. If it were a bit smaller it would be pleasant, but it's hard to even have a conversation. Otherwise, very lovely.

Dear NZorbust,

We appreciate you shared your positive experience at our Hotel on this website.
To make sure other travelers not get confused about the “wide fountains” you described as being very loud we would like to take this opportunity to explain why we implemented our waterfall features at our Resort and Hotel.
In both our properties as you mentioned the rooms are indeed build around the pool, garden, bar and restaurant areas.
This creates a kind of a private courtyard feeling which most of our guest really enjoy.
This also results that the sounds of talking people or other sounds produced by the bar or restaurant area intend to go direction the rooms.
To prevent this we found the perfect solution by integrating these water falls which produce a nice monotone sound of falling water and blocks al other noises.
Actually it is perfectly possible for us to adjust the volume of the water flow, maybe the day you where there it was not correctly adjusted, our apologize if this resulted in a less pleasant moment.

With best regards,
Tommy

The room, the hotel, and surroundings were all beautiful. I especially loved the balcony with the swinging chair overlooking the pool. The location is very convenient...it's a short walk to the old market and various night markets in the city centre. The restaurant had delicious breakfast...especially the fresh French press coffee and fruit juice with passionfruit seeds, and I would highly recommend the Khmer noodles with vegies...yum! The staff were so welcoming and friendly and gave helpful advice. The only thing we didn't like was the large number of mosquitoes, but as long as you use bug spray before bed it should be fine :)

The rooms re two storied with a balcony and swing chair looking over the pretty pool. Bougainvillea and frangipane plants surround the pool. The staff were wonderful and the location is convenient for the town but quiet. Staff can organise drivers or trips and are extremely helpful .Breakfast was great, my favourite bacon, banana and pancake-tops!

I've stayed at the GB hotels (Boutique and Resort) seven times now and can't believe I've never submitted a review. My bad. Simply put, the hotels are perfect for discriminating travelers who are looking for a complete experience, not just a place to sleep. Located on a tiled soi just across the foot-bridge that leads to the night markets, restaurants, and Pub Street, it's a quiet oasis far away from the hoards of tourists staying in the pre-fabricated, low-rise hotels lining the main road into town. But the winning attribute is the staff: it's clear that they are empowered by the management, because what they don't anticipate they can take care of on the spot. Over the course of my many visits, I have been warmly and sincerely greeted by the same staff members -- a sure sign that they are well-respected by the management and genuinely happy to be working there. Many times I have been encouraged by friends to try different hotels based on their recommendations, but I just can't bring myself to take that leap -- those friends have never stayed at the GB. If the GB can't accommodate me, I will change my dates. Seriously.
