“Excellent Room Excellent Service Excellent Value for Money”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

We booked 3 nights at Somadevi in the Premier room, after a long 6 hour "interesting" bus trip from Phom Phen to arrive at the hotel to fresh cold towels to wipe our face was like a dream. They sat us down to check in rather than waiting at the counter. Service was great. I was a bit worried as hotel was ranked so low in the 60s our of 190 or something so didn't know what to expect. Room was wonderful, roomy and well decorated. We had a balcony. Had option to use the lift but choose stairs anyway. Our friends were staying in accomodation 1 street away for around 5 times the price and had no lift at all. We actually thought our room and hotel was better so we knew what value we were getting. Breakfast was great - loved the fresh eggs made to how you liked. Extended our stay an extra night. Bed was a little hard but slept well after spending days walking everywhere. Definitely would stay again.

Room Tip: Premier room definitely worth it we had a private balcony overlooking the pool area. The porters ca...

We were very satisfied with our stay at the Somadevi in Siem Reap.
A driver was waiting for us at the airport as arranged (free airport pick-up with car). The check-in process was quick and smooth.
Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The matress was very firm. I understand from other reviews that this is quite common in Cambodia, but we prefer firm matresses, so this was good for us. The only thing I didn't like about the room was that the air-con was a bit noisy and a bit too cold and we couldn't control the temperature. So we cooled down the room before going to sleep and then turned it off. Probably not an issue for the majority of people, but I'm a very light sleeper.
Bathroom was very spacious too, with good water pressure, and both shower and bath tub.
Both bedroom and bathroom very well lit, which is often a bonus in hotels, especially in the bedroom.
Breakfast in the morning was eccellent. Huge variety, to suit all tastes. There were hot and cold dishes, a noodle and egg counter (with cooks preparing eggs and soups on the spot with our choice of ingredients), a selection of bread and pastries, lots of fresh fruit, and more.
Everyone among the staff was friendly and polite, never pushy.
The location is perfect: central but set back from all the street noise by a courtyard. About 15-20 minutes by tuk-tuk from Angkor Wat and 10 minutes walk from Pub Street.
The hotel receptionist arranged for our very friendly tuk-tuk driver on the first morning, and he took us around for the whole 4 days stay.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and I would return there myself should I go back to Siem Reap.

From entrance, the ambience, beautiful gardens, friendly helpful staff, this was one of the best hotels I'd stayed at. Big, beautiful comfortable bed, fresh white sheets n towels, big TV screen, well stocked fridge, nice bath robes nd the bathroom was huge...fast running shower and huge bath tub...it was just very comfortable. Then they had good, wide variety of foods for breakfast and I especially enjoyed the freshly baked French breads. For three nights, we paid US$165... How awesome is that? Fantastic value for money and was a bonus especially when we only made the booking before we departed Bangkok for SIem Reap. We also had a very BAD Experience of the taxi driver that drove us from the airport. He was angry that we didnt take his offer to take us on tour the next day..then he got very rude, obnoxious, turned the aircon off and when we asked why, he said, "because You are not good customers and not give me business. What a jerk? But never allow such idiots spoil your trip. The rest of our stay was none other but, a fantastic time. We met very polite, helpful TukTuk drivers who happily took us around, and we came away with many beautiful memories of the lovely Cambodians. We truly enjoyed the visits to the Wats/temples, the floating villages, night markets....so much to see and appreciate. Fantastic historical Heritage sites and I would return if ever there is another chance. It was very hot though..and best to wear sneakers as most areas to visit, are quite dusty. Also take a hat and/or umbrella.

If location was to be your criteria, your search ends here. This is a very well located hotel, in the heart of the city; near to all the 'action' in the town. Walking distance to the Pub Street, old market and a host of eating joints. The money changer and the mobile phone recharge is next to the hotel. The rooms are large with a comfortable bed and neat and clean bathrooms, with a tub and a shower cubicle. The toiletries are basic. A good breakfast spread with live counters for eggs and noodles, though no fresh juice is served. To compensate for that they offer you 5 varieties of tetrapack juice in addition to milk and a good serving of fresh fruits. The swimming pool is excellent and they have a good poolside menu. Incidentally, they serve a 'set' menu for 8 dollars which includes a cold drink/beer, vegetarian starters and a chicken dish in the main course followed by fresh fruits as the desert. The wi fi works very well. The staff is courteous and helpful. There are many good restaurants just outside the hotel serving chinese, khmer, Indian and italian cuisines. The hotel spa seemed to be very good. I did not get a chance to use their services...... The gym had the basics.

Room Tip: Poolside should be a good choice...........

This was a relaxing place to stay and the lovely pool was a nice bonus.

The rooms were clean and comfortable with efficient airconditioning.

The breakfast was good with plenty of choice although the packed breakfast they provided when we went off to see the Angkor temple complex wasn't great..

The pool was lovely. A nice area to sit around and relax and a good size to have a proper swim.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel at the beginning of March 2013 and have no negative comments about it. We cannot comment on the meals since we only ate breakfast there as it was included in the tour package. The breakfast was buffet style and more than adequate. The hotel was chosen by our tour company as we requested a four star hotel from the available choices. Our tour operator was Mr. Chhatra, Operations Director, Angkor & Asia Adventures. They were a random online selection resulting from a Google search. We were more than satisfied with them as they were very accommodating to us in pre-adjusting our tour package to coincide with our late night plane arrival. All of our E Mails were replied to within one day. Our English speaking tour guide, Mr. Socheat, was outstanding. He was well informed about the sites we visited and was more than happy to change the order of the itinerary per our request. Our driver was always waiting for us at the end of each tour. A random online selection is always a risk. In this case it proved to be an excellent choice and I would highly recommend them.

Somadevi met all our expectations especially their pool on 2 very hot evenings. Rooms overlooking the pool were good, air conditioning worked fine. Great decor in lobby but dining room is very large and busy at breakfast with a good range of foods.
Not too sure about the poolside buffet dinner . . . May be a good idea to avoid buffets when travelling.
Can't comment on value for money as I was on a package tour, but one absolute bonus was their generator when electricity went out in the local area.
