“Great Information”
Reviewed January 8, 2008

By far the best thing about Two Dragons is the wealth of information from the owner. When we had questions about attractions, he gave us non-BS answers, which considering our limited time, was very appreciated. The tuk-tuk drivers they have working for them are all friendly and helpful. The location is alright, but it is a bit far from what seem to be the main night-life attractions of Siem Reap. However, the food was fantastic and the staff was very helpful.

However, I will admit on arrival I was a bit disappointed with the room and promptly asked if we could be moved or if maybe one of the more expensive rooms had opened up (we booked ahead due to the popularity of this guest house.) During my stay I noticed a couple other people asking to do the same. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing inherently wrong with the room except a few mosquitoes. The room was extremely clean, but the location on the ground floor meant that it got quite loud at times.

  • Liked — Incredible wealth of information from the owner
  • Disliked — The room I was in had a very college-dorm feeling about it

As the title indicates, I've got mixed feelings about the Two Dragons. On the positive side: The owner really is a wealth of information about Siem Reap and is very helpful in facilitating your arrival if you're travelling overland from Poipet. I highly recommend having him arrange a driver for you in advance, it makes the whole procedure very easy. The food at the guesthouse is some of the best I've had at a hotel of any standard and very reasonably priced. Homemade ice cream and great espresso are bonuses. Staff are very pleasant. The tuk-tuk driver which the Two Dragons arranged for us to tour the temples was great. Wireless internet access is available and fast; the cable TV has more channels than you could ever need. The rooms aren't overly attractive and have a slight bad college dorm vibe, but you can't really expect more when paying under $20 for a room. Overall the guesthouse atmosphere is very pleasant and homey. On the negative side: When we arrived our room was filled with mosquitos. After complaining (and receiving a slightly sarcastic reply to the effect that all of Southeast Asia has a mosquito problem) we were given a small electric tennis racquet type paddle to kill them--which is quite satisfying to do by the way. We had to kill between 30 and 40 mosquitos before the room was habitable. Once we did this and made a diligent effort to not leave the door open for long when entering and leaving mosquitos were not at all an issue, however. I observed later that the staff leave the doors open while cleaning the rooms, which probably causes the problem. If going to Siem Reap again and was limited by budget constraints I would certainly stay at the Two Dragons, and would probably seek it out for food even I wasn't staying there, but if my budget allowed I might stay someplace else. However, for the price it is very good.

I stayed at Two Dragons for four nights in November. Great location with a corner store, ATM and restaurants very near. They give you a bottle of water each day which really comes in handy as you drink so much water while touring the temples.

Get an upstairs room if you can. I stayed on the ground floor at the end of the hall. The mozzies were out in force there, but they seemed less so upstairs where my mates moved rooms.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. The only disappointment was a minor one that the homemade ice cream wasn't as good as I anticipated.

we stayed here 4 nigths. Very quiet and charming place. Little, but clean and confortamble room with air condition, private bath and sattelite TV. We loved the shakes in the restaurant and also the food was very good. The owner of the place is a nice american guy and he helped us in everything, we had a cool tuk-tuk, 'booked' in the guesthouse and we had also an organized tour to the big lake nereby.
So you get a very nice stay for a very good price! Highly reccomended!

A good quality guesthouse. Rooms were clean and of an acceptable standard. Our room had TV and air conditions. They were very helpful in organising transport and guides and their communication via email was very good

Just another positive review to echo the others already here. Gordon and the staff and Two Dragons were friendly and helpful and made us feel like we were welcome visitors when returning from a long day out seeing temples.
The rooms were spotless and well-appointed. As well, the restaurant was a pleasant place for breakfast or an ice cold beer in the evenings.
Finally, the tuk tuk and taxi drivers we arranged through Two Dragons (to see the temples and to travel to the Thai border at Poi Pet) were courteous and honest.

A wonderful guesthouse, situated down a dusty side street, close to the centre of town. Our room was quite simple, but very clean with efficient airconditioning and a fridge. The food is fantastic - the best chocolate icecream I have ever tasted (home made with lashings of real chocolate and cream), brilliant breakfasts (small plates of fresh fruit enough for two for $1.50, waffles or Dragon breakfasts of various sizes with eggs, bacon and toast to name but some of the choices), and good local food (try the fish Amok, a local curry) - like the best home cooking. The place is very efficiently run by Gordon and his staff - e-mails concerning our reservation answered straight away, pick up arranged from the airport and Bunny, the tuktuk driver then drove us around the temples for the rest of our stay ($12 per day). (If you want a guide to the temples this has to be arranged in Siem Reap before you set off for the day, not at the temples themselves. We found the commentary in the Lonely Planet guide to Cambodia very comprehensive.) Coach tickets for our onward journey to Phnonm Penh were arranged and delivered within fifteen minutes. Gordon runs a website on travel in SE Asia and is a great source of information and advice.
