Steung Siemreap Thmey Hotel
Ranked #104 of 384 Hotels in Siem Reap

My partner and I booked this hotel based on good reviews here. I now regret this deeply. On arrival, I realised that we had been charged a substantially inflated rate ($85 AUD per night pre booked through Hotels.com).

We would not resent this, if the price actually matched the quality. The location is unarguably convenient, however please bear in mind Siem Reap is small, and that your main reason for staying is likely the Ankor temples, which are all outside the town.

The room itself (facing the street on the pool branch of the hotel) had mould from floor to ceiling on the bed head wall. The entire room, although attractively furnished, was grubby and scuffed.

The sheets and blanket were persistently damp and sticky, which resulted in itchy skin. The mattress was spotted with mould (which is a health hazard).

We tried to ignore this, but eventually spoke politely to reception and explained the problems. This was not well received. I was interrupted mid-sentence with patronising gestures to my mouth to "smile!" Infuriating. Why would i smile when I am obviously concerned? We were then refused a change of room, however I do credit them with changing our sheets (I could hear staff laughing at me in the corridor while they collected the new sheets).

Totally unprofessional and disappointing. As they boast to be TripAdvisor's 2012 winner, this feedback needs to be made public knowledge so other people don't make the same mistake we did.

Steung Siemreap Hotel was a great surprise for our Christmas holiday. It is just a quick walk from the main restaurant/shop area and pub street downtown Siem Reap. The rooms are a great size, quiet and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is ok with a nice selection from Khmer breakfast to an omelet station. The pool is beautiful, yet cool... a great stay for our family of 4.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of December. We were happy with our twin room in the older building, and crossing the street in the morning for breakfast was not a problem. Breakfast was delicious and every morning I had an order to made omlette. As everyone else has written the location is excellent-- very close to restaurants, bars and the old market. Also an easy walk to the Artisans d'Angkor workshops. Initially we were concerned that it might be noisy since it's located so close to Pub Street, but the balcony doors are all double glass so it was actually quiet and we had no trouble sleeping.

The only negative: the bathroom was a little dark and sometimes the bath tub would stop draining. At one point I thought it might be plugged up but I think it was a combination of old plumbing and water pressure.

We came over for the Angkor Wat half marathon, and the front desk staff were very helpful in arranging a 5am boxed breakfast for us, as well as helping us order pasta takeout from Estatic Pizza the night before the race. In general we found the staff very nice, and were impressed by how well many of them could speak English. While waiting in the lobby I also had a nice chat with Mr. Ratrin about kromas.

Overall a wonderful stay and we hope to stay at Steung Siemreap again next year.

The hotel is located in close to many of the cities activities. The staff is mostly accommodating but a few do not provide any service and the management appears not to care. The facility is a bit dated although the hotel boasts that the building that we stayed in (with the pool) is new. Although the included breakfast was just ok, I would not eat any other meals there. Too many great (and affordable) choices in the city.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights which just a 100 meters from the dynamic restaurants, pubs, markets and shops in the centre of the town. There a re two buildings in the complex, one of them has a swimming pool. Clean room with friendly staffs awaits you in Siem Reap.

A fantastic location, so close to all the action- pub street, markets etc and not far from Angkor Wat yet it wasn't noisy or over crowded around. A lovely building with nice clean rooms, and an old world feel, we fully recommend this hotel. The staff are courteous and efficient and can organize a guide and car in case you need to do the Angkor Wat Tour. Dying to visit again...

Room Tip: Take the rooms with the balcony Deluxe Category.

Stayed Dec 2012 - good location, nice breakfast, beautiful clean modern rooms and pool area. Wish we had stayed a little longer as we only had 2 nights here. About 2 minutes from Pub street was came alive at night yet you had no sound when you were in your room. Staff very friendly and this hotel is a very good price for what you get.

Room Tip: We had a room over the pool which was lovely.
