“Great hotel with some faults”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

We have just spent 3 nights at this hotel. The rooms are fantastic in size, we had a superior which was huge had a king and single bed. However this was the hardest bed that i have ever tried to sleep on along with a rock hard pillow. Needless to same none of us slept well. The hotel is very grand and has an amazing pool. The location is fantastic very close to Pub Street which is great and a must do in Siem Reap. My biggest gripe with the hotel is the breakfast. It is pretty much inedible. The same food is served day after day in the same dirty bowls in Bain Marie's. For example the cold baked beans bowl was filthy on the first day and was in exactly the same shape if not dirtier on the day we left. The coffee is disgusting and the egg mix is laden with egg shells. If this hotel could improve on the breakfast and update the bedding it would tick all the boxes!

Yeah Yeah we will send some one up to stop the bath leaking said the reception but nobody turned up for the 4 days we were there. But we did get someone to provide us with the missing table for our Champei Room terrace. Pity it took them 4 days and they arrived just as we were leaving the room to catch our flight.

Then the masseur damaged my wife's knee so badly that it needs medical treatment to fix. The house wine was so horrible that we couldn't drink it and had to send it back. They still tried to charge us though. The breakfast buffet was just OK with minimal selection. Fresh Omelettes were good. Staff are very friendly and try hard. It's a well situated hotel with tuk-tuks outside to take you into the main market and restaurant area for $2 or a 15 minute walk.

Housekeeping was very tardy. The only way we could get our room made up before 5pm was to phone them. They sent someone around fairly promptly then.

Overall a hotel that tries hard but fails to meet the standards that it aspires to.

Prince D'Angkor was recommended by our travel agency, we followed their suggestion. We stayed 3 nights in the hotel. Staff is nice, polite and we felt welcome. The room was large, well kept, and the beds were comfortable, which we find important. We have not checked out the pool, we simply did not have time since there is so much to explore in Siem Reap. Prince D'Angkor is a great basis for trips to Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the like but also real close to Pub Street, if you are in to that.
The food was good; the only small minor criticism here is that we got exactly the same menu for lunch and diner.
Taken together however, Prince D'Angkor is a great place to stay!

Stayed in this hotel a total of 4 nights last week. The staff were courteous and helpful. The rooms we had were clean with good air conditioning. The buffet breakfast was okay but not a lot of choices. On the day we went to see the sunrise in Angkor Wat, the hotel packed us a big breakfast to go which was nice. The only negative is the water pressure during the evening is very low, not so good for taking a shower.

Room Tip: Pick the side facing the pool.

This was the second half of our Cambodia trip after coming from 3 days in Phnom Penh and we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel after our previous experience. It is set off the main road, but a very close 10 minute walk to the markets and Pub Street.

Our room was on the 3rd floor and looked over the main entrance and did not have any road noise - in fact the noisiest part of the stay were other guests in the next room (with kids up running around until late) or yelling at each other walking the halls. We noticed the cleaning staff were constantly up and down the hallways yelling at each other via walkie talkies from early until very late, which meant sleeping in was not an option.

The room was a reasonable size with a nice bathroom. Unfortunately beds in Cambodia all seem rock hard and we only had a fairly grey and dingy looking bedspread / duvet cover over us, which didn't cover the whole bed (another recurring theme) with no top sheet - it was not very nice. The room was kept clean and was of a good standard, although we had a daily fight with the safe to open and close it, but it did work ok. We had free WiFi around the hotel, but found the signal not very strong and needed to log back in constantly - I understand that good coverage is difficult to get in Cambodia, so this is probably outside of the hotels control.

The hotel itself is lovely, as is the pool area and small garden around it. The lobby is full of dark wood and has a nice gift shop and spa, where I had a reasonable massage. We had room service a couple of times, which was fine and ate one midday meal in the hotel, which was disappointing and I felt unwell after eating. We also had breakfast supplied each day and after having eaten a large number of hotel breakfasts in Asia, I have to say this was hands down the worst I've had. The selection was poor and was not replenished often and things were left in a mess after guests before you had helped themselves. We did not have many choices and so elected for an omelet each day, which the guy grudgingly made when we said we didn't want those he'd already prepared and left in the warmer. It was just bad.

We found most of the staff in the hotel seemed very young and were really just not interested in guests. From those at the front desk to the restaurant, cafe in the lobby and spa and then outside at the pool, they just seemed listless and generally disinterested. I don't expect to be greeted like a long lost friend, but it's nice when people make it look like they're making a bit of an effort. Ironically, the only people that every acknowledged or greeted us were the housekeeping staff.

We arranged outside tours and didn't use the hotel for this. The main sites are very close to Siem Reap, so traveling is kept to a relative minimum. The town itself is not very exciting, so the main attractions are the markets and Pub Street, where we had some quite good food (best Mexican I've had, ironically) and great cheap local beer. There are plenty of tuk-tuks around and usually some at the main entrance if you don't feel like walking or want to do a quick tour of the town (it doesn't take long!).

Overall we were happy enough with the hotel and if we were to come back to Siem Reap, I would consider staying there again.

Room Tip: Pay more for a nicer room in the new wing looking over the pool complex

This hotel was my first time stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I liked the hotel very much and I thought the service in the hotel was very well-done. The room was very nice and spacious. It was perfect for two people to stay in. There was also a balcony view attached to our room. The view was alright. It was the first floor view. aka the swimming pool, fitness center, etc. There was something which I did not like about the hotel mostly during the mornings. For breakfast, it was the same food and drinks that was laid out for the people who were staying in the hotel. I thought the hotel service people could do a better job of that and instead to change the food and drinks during the mornings for breakfast time. Overall, I think the hotel was a very cosy place to stay. The hotel location was very good because it was just a five or ten minute drive to any night markets or pub streets by took-tooks in Siem Reap from the hotel. :)

Room Tip: - Third floor bedrooms are much quieter and safer. - Easy to locate the rooms - When asleep in the...

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, room was clean, pool was nice, breakfast had everything and the kids enjoyed staying there.
The only disappointment was the "Compulsory" Christmas eve dinner that was not worth $40 per adult and $20 for Children. There was not much food, the quality was poor and we where lucky not to be burnt by a gas explosion at one of the cooking stations which I was standing near. Only some hair was singed.
Besides that we had a great time in a beautiful location.
