“Colonial Gem that outperforms its grander competition”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

The Foreign Correspondents CLub Siem Reap is a wonderful gem of a boutique hotel right in the heart of Siem Reap. A mix of French Colonial style, combined with great service, good Sap and great value, I think it far outperforms many of the swanky hotel chains (Sofitel, Le Meridien etc) that are now in Siem Reap.

THe rooms are comfortable, air-conditioned and also have ceiling fans. There is an eco-friendly approach to the amenities. The bed is comfortable, the room well provisioned (minbar, hairdryer, kettle, TV , sockets etc).

THe staff are great - incredibly attentive and willing and a good standard of training.

THe food is a good mix of French, Western and Vietnamese - catering to all tastes.

The spa is great, the pol lovely and the setting individual and welcoming.

And above all this the price is very competitive for the quality of rooms and service that you are getting - far less expensive and far more personal than some of the new "grand" chains that have opened up in recent years.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Pool are nice and a little more indulgent

FCC Angkor is lovely. Welcoming and super efficient staff, gorgeous environs, delicious food, great cocktails. What's not to love. Breakfast is cooked and the Eggs Benedict are super. Cars or tuk tuks to the Temples of Angkor can be arranged at a reasonable cost. The hotel is right by the river about 10 minute walk from the old city. Many bars, restaurants and shopping there. It is about 7 km from the temples which is great.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor rooms by the pool

FCC Angkor is a great place to come back to and relax in the pool with a cocktail after a day visiting the temples.

Location is great - not too near to the bustling sound of the Pub Street/Old Market area, but close enough for an easy walk to get there if you feel like being amidst where the crowd is. Or you can always opt for a tuktuk that's often available right in front of the hotel entrance.

The restaurant has a nice view facing the river. Breakfast was good, though it could use a little bit more variety on the menu as they didn't have a buffet spread. It's also nice to note that they serve Illy's coffee here. Pool and the grounds are lovely too. If you're lucky, you might even find some pretty hand-folded pink lotuses floating around the poolside area! :)

The room overall was cosy and very "zen". Interior lighting was quite sparse, so be prepared for a dimly-lit room. I find that the pillows and mattress were quite hard though, so I personally didn't quite like it. Toilet has better lighting and has a huge mirror plastered onto the wall, which makes the section feels very spacious. There were mosquitos in the room, but I wouldn't blame it on the hotel as they're everywhere in Siem Reap! The hotel also organised for a complimentary 15-min foot massage for both of us, which is a nice surprise.

On our last day at the hotel, although we have already checked out in the afternoon, we were offered to use their clean and air-conditioned changing room (complete with showers and bathrobes) before heading off to the airport in the evening.

If you're after a small and chic boutique hotel in Siem Reap that's pleasant and well-maintained, FCC Angkor is the place for you. :)

This hotel is badly in need of a facelift. There is no real reception area, scruffy ground around the pool and the superior room which are exactly the same as standard except on the ground floor are disappointly 2 star. You have to keep the curtains closed all the while you are in the room if you don,t want to be in a goldfish bowl. A noisy family of Australians decided to have breafast and a loud conversation at 5.30 in the morning so no chance of sleeping after that. So on the last night we checked out and in to another hotel around the corner which was due to close for renovations. The room and grounds were far far better than the FCC even before renovations.Would not recommend there are plenty of other hotel for a couple of pounds more. We were hugely disappointed.

Room Tip: This Boutique hotel is in great need of a facelift. Very disappointing room standard for the rating...

Dear SheratonWallHotel,

Warmest greetings from FCC Hotels and Restaurants!

Following up to your comment, we understand that everywhere there is complaint and you are among a very few guests who have rated us lower than 4. However, your comment is still considered as serious case and we will put it in our renovation plan which will happen sometimes in the future.

Have a good weekend,
Linda

Lovely room opening up on to the pool, friendly staff and a great location. What more could you ask for, oh a really great restaurant and cocktails and the best eggs benedict I've ever eaten (and I'm a fan)!

Room Tip: Deluxe Rooms open to the pool area!

My partner is very particular about hotel and he usually chooses well. FCC hotel in Siem Reap is not a 5 star hotel. In fact, I don't see the point of staying in a 5 star hotel in Siem Reap. FCC hotel is affordable and you get everything you need: great location, excellent service, polite and courteous staff, secure, friendly and unpretentious. The room is spacious, the one we had was facing the swimming pool.Try swimming in it and you will see why this hotel is all you that you need for vacation, honeymoon, or even just for a getaway holiday.
Breakfast is included. The menu is great. They use Illy coffee beans, great! The hotel can exchange foreign currency and their rates are surprisingly very competitive. The hotel is only a few blocks from the old market, night market and the Angkor National Museum. You can also take a tuktuk / motor trailer to the Angkor Wat.
