“great value, not quite luxury”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2007

I stayed for almost 2 weeks as a combination pleasure/business trip. For the cost of a room, with a nice breakfast, this is a great value. Rooms are clean, the tap water is safe to drink (not that bottled water costs much there), and the breakfast is very nice.

The previous complaints about intermittent hot water are true, and the wireless internet tended to go out for days (there are numerous local places to get on the internet for a dollar or less an hour, so no big loss).

This hotel is much closer to the city restaurants than many other hotels, and nothing in the city is more than a 5-10 minute walk away. Tuk-tuks are lined up outside the hotel to go anywhere in the region for at most a few dollars, no need to pay more to arrange anything via the hotel itself.

A great convenience store is around the corner, very cheap, with a surprisingly varied amount of food and necessities, including fresh-baked breads from a local bakery.

Still, it has no great luxury comapared to other hotels, but for the price it is well worth it and has everything needed for a relaxing and convenient visit to Siem Reap and Angkor Wat.

For the very affordable price, Casa Angkor is a great find in Siem Reap. Comfortable rooms with a nice colonial ambience at the lobby and breakfast areas. We've stayed there twice already and would definitely return. The hotel's drivers were also very friendly and reasonable at US$25 per day. Only setback is the water system - the hot water is rarely hot. Hotel is within walking distance to the center market. The old market and pub street are a little further out, but tuk-tuks will take you almost anywhere for just US$1 or so. This is much better located than the big hotels along the airport road or those on the road to Angkor Wat.

As part of our Angkor Wat tour program, stayed for 4 nights at Casa Angkor. Great quiet and clean hotel with courteous staff. Very nice room with dark wood floors, strong airconditioning, in-room safe and minifridge, big double bed, large tub and shower--overall exceeded expectations and a great value!

Great pool area for cooling off during the day. (For the cat lovers out there, there's a clean and friendly cat family living just under the pool deck by the tree closest to the main walkway. The kittens love pats and snacks.)

It's located just a block away from the busy streets to allow a good night's sleep and quiet during the day but still very convenient to downtown (Bar Street and the old market)--just a 10 minute walk or a 2 minute tuk-tuk ride away.

Agree with previous post about the convenience store just around the corner and the slow (and very overpriced) hotel internet connection. They have an in house spa and gave a 15 min free massage coupon on check-in but one can find any additional spa services outside the hotel for much cheaper. Other than the breakfast buffet, there's no need to eat at the hotel restaurant. We ate two nights of great local Khmer food at the 'Khmer Family Restaurant' right next door to the Rajana store which has all your souvenir shopping at a great price for a good cause--both are easy to find on Bar Street.

Overall, Casa Angkor was a great place to use as our home base for our time in Siem Reap. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

I spent 5 weeks touring Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangkok staying in a range of hotels from 2-star to 5-star. I can honestly say that the Casa Angkor Hotel was the nicest and most pleasant I stayed in. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. The pool area is small but lovely and a swim in the pool is a welcome relief from the heat. I can highly recommend the ‘Lemon Juice’ (lemon juice, sugar syrup, ice and water) at the bar – its very very refreshing. The breakfast buffet is small but fine. Pancakes and eggs will be made to order. Plenty of tuc-tucs outside – don’t forget to negotiate. The drivers are happy to collect you from your destination if you want – useful at night if you choose a restaurant in a remote/quiet location.

Recommendations/Tips:
I would recommend that you go to the internet café at the side of the hotel. The cost is about one-tenth of the hotel’s price and the speed is fine. To get to the internet café - come out of the hotel entrance and turn right. Take the first right and the café is on the left-hand side of the street.

There is a supermarket around the corner from the hotel if you need supplies or fancy an icecream! To get here - come out of the hotel entrance and turn right. Take the first right . Walk down this street and the supermarket is on the right side at the junction with the main road.

Had very nice meals at the FCC and the La Noria Guesthouse. The guesthouse puts on a Shadow Puppet Show and musical/dance performance on Wednesday evenings. Part of the fee is donated to a local charity supporting children. I think you need to book as its popular. Your hotel can do this for you.

If you would like to support the local community-in-need then, aside from making direct money contributions, you can eat in café and restaurants run by non-profit organisations, you can shop for souvenirs in shops like Rajana on Bar Street (great handicraft and ladies T-shirts in a very soft cotton….I nearly bought the whole shop!!). There is a charity box at Siem Reap airport where you can deposit your final few riels.

Don’t forget to negotiate on price. I know many westerners feel uncomfortable negotiating especially when the price (compared to western prices) is low but that is their system and they expect you to bargain. You will be able to agree a price that is acceptable to both parties – and a lot of the time bargaining is enjoyable for both. Remember that tourists throwing their money around will only indirectly contribute to inflation which hurts the locals in the long-run. This is what happened when the UN arrived in Cambodia. If you want to help then support local charities (see above for some suggestions).

Enjoy your trip to Cambodia !

Beautiful hotel with a lovely pool to cool down after a day at the temples of Angkor Wat. The rooms are large and airy, although ones at the front of the hotel can be very hot.

I wouldn't recommend the food, so have lunch out. Cocktails are better at the FCC and happy hour is very cheap. There are good charities to become involved in and there is an orphanage called Cambodia Orphan Save Association near to the temples that needs financial support. The hotel will give you the details. Tuk, tuks are very easy to find outside.

Our large, high ceilinged room amply housed the three of us for 4 days. The cooling system was amazingly quiet, the staff quite accomodating and competent. The central location allowed us to sample the wonderful eateries in downtown Siem Reap easily. Our engaging trip arranger, Ou Panha of Amazing Anghor Tours suggested this hotel which is much more reasonably priced than others along the farther out hotel row. Best of all, the hotel is Cambodian owned which keeps more of your tourist dollars in this wonderful country. The hotel water does take a lot of time to warm up and after it does, the large stone-tiled shower makes bathing a satisfactory experience. We were a little freaked out by a cawing type sound coming from our drapes, but it turned out to be a "lucky" gecko. Our guide told us when the gecko "barks" in the room it brings good luck to the inhabitants. We were glad it was there eating the mosquitos.

A great medium sized hotel well located for both the nightlife and the historical sites. We had a good sized, clean, pleasantly furnished room with a good bathroom. The only slight complaint was the same as another review, that the water took 15 mins to run warm.
The rest was very good for the price, a nice small pool, reception and dining area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We also used a registered guide booked through the hotel for visits to the area and he was excellent.
Recommended.
