Grand Sunset Angkor Hotel

Spotless, simple rather than overly stylish, and with very friendly, helpful staff, the hotel has an entrance that is deceptively unassuming. Beyond this, it gets even better: its facilities and amenities are more than expected given its star rating, and the open design of the building makes it feel spacious and airy. The range of good quality food at breakfast tempts stomachs from any and every part of the world. Our short stay was a pleasure.

We hope to welcoming you again in the future!

The hotel was great. Amazing pool with bar service nearby (REALLY enjoyed the fruit shakes) and it was nice that they don't kick you out, even late night.

I really enjoyed the breakfast; all the traditional items, rice, western staples and a station for freshly made soup. Perfect way to start the day.

The staff was super accommodating. Had a late flight and they offered very late check-out, or use of a room to shower before heading out. They arranged a bus to the airport for low cost and when I wanted to make an international call, someone at the desk let me use their cell phone and just pay them a small per minute cost. Personalized and friendly service.

My only tiny complaint was that the AC was a bit weak and took awhile to cool the room. Since you have to put the key in a slot to get electricity going (good method of being green, I'll admit) but it was hard to keep cool. Bear in mind, this is a small thing since I didn't spend much time in the room. Highly recommend this location.

Dear Shayna,

Thank you for the kind feedback, We glad you enjoyed your stay with us. With regards to the AC, yes it takes a little longer to cool the room as we provide 1 keycard for each room as green effort and we are in the process of upgrading our aircon phase by phase. Apologize for the inconvenience. But tips to other travelers, that they can request a second keycard to be placed in the room for AC and electricity at anytime.

Once again, thank you!

Warmest regards,
Richard Tan

This hotel looked great from the outside, the pool area was very relaxing and a beautiful pool. The rooms need a little help though.

The staff are great though, very helpful, always smiling, and eager to use their English skills.

Breakfast was a REAL highlight here. An omelette bar was very unexpected at this level hotel (nice touch), a hot buffet of around 8 Western and Asian items, assorted pastries of all kinds, and lots of fresh fruit. Really way more than expected.

Location was perfect, quiet colonial area with lovely hotels around the neighborhood. Close to pub street and the old market, walkable if fit, tuk tuk is cheap. Close enough to cycle to the temples if you're fit and can stand the heat. The hotel had cycles to use.

Room Tip: Ask to check rooms, make sure everything works, but this is a standard Asian travel tip.

It's with real shame I am knocking marks off this hotel. It's a really nice hotel, great swimming pool area, reception staff are helpful and friendly, but the room could have been a little more looked after. When we walked in, I noticed a smell, it smelled like 'damp' and wouldn't really go away. I felt I had stayed in cleaner hotels during my tour of South East Asia and the room was a little disappointing. I'm not sure all the rooms are like this though, so please accept this with caution. This is about a 10 minute walk from the hustle and bustle area of Pub Street. If there is a next time I would opt to stay closer to town. The pool bar does the best club sandwiches!

Stayed here for 4 nights with 2 young children. Booked it as has a pool. On arrival told the pool is shut for maintenance. But will be open the next day. Sadly not. Was shut for all our stay! Sign in the lift showed it had been shut for nearly 2 weeks. Disappointed children. Even worse was on last day we found out from another guest we could use the pool at hotel next door. Too late. Shame none of the staff bothered to tell us!

Other points.

Coffee and tea at breakfast were undrinkable. Really bad. I don't know how they could get it so wrong. It's not difficult to make a decent cup of tea or coffee!. Did complain on the first day. But no change.

Agree with other reviews. Don't wash any clothes as the water will stain them. Laundry in hotel is very expensive. But just walk out the front turn right and right again and a couple of shops offering 1kg for $2. Good service.

Last gripe is maid service. First day we had bath towels, hand towels and flannels. Next day just bath towels andthe same the next. When we called reception maid came and told us the hand towels were not dry from laundry??? It's 35 degrees outside and not rained while we have been here.....poor excuse!

Otherwise the hotel is good location and staff friendly. But add up all the small points and it's disappointing.

I wouldn't return as better value for money elsewhere.

We booked into this hotel through Khiri Travel - we usually travel independently. It is within walking distance to the centre, with its many shops & eating places - plenty of tuk tuks if you are feeling lazy. Our room was quite large, with a great shower - much needed after hot days out viewing the temples. The breakfasts were pretty average, but there was always plenty of food.

I have to say, that at the end of a hot day visiting temple ruins and all, coming back to a cold room (nicely decorated!) and cold or lukewarm water would be so, so great. During our 3 night stay, the AC wasn't cold enough and the showers only spewed hot, hot water during our stay.
However, the obliging apologetic staff and attentive maintenance crew (which had to attend to the crazy hot water in our room every night) made our stay manageable.
Lovely pool area (the pool is chlorined/cleaned every morning), great breakfast spread to start our exciting "Indiana Jones" like days.
