“gorgeous exterior, but rooms are just okay”
Reviewed May 17, 2009

When we got off from the tuk-tuk at Jasmine Lodge, we were very impressed. The exterior and lounge area is beautifully done and cozy with a resort feel. The lounge area has is airy with comfy couches and a billiards table which was cool. The food was decent, and we really appreciated the free breakfast that was part of our package.

The rooms however, are a slightly different story. We got the ground floor rooms, which may have been the problem. The rooms were dimly lit and the orange/pink wall colour did not help. But it is quite big though and the beds were comfortable. The fan is also really strong, so that helped with ventilation and making things feel airy.

A common issue with ground floor units are creepy-crawlies, and we faced this too. The rain that we had probably didn't help either. It wasn't too bad, but gee whiz, tiny earthworms crawling up the drain in the toilet? Gah!

Overall, it was a good stay and worth your money if you're not very fussy. The staff are very nice too. Its also a good location, one of the nearest lodges to the Angkor temples, which helps if you want to get there for the sunrise. Just avoid ground floor units as much as possible.

My friend of mine recommend Jasmine Lodge when I went with my foster sister to Siem Reap Cambodia.I made contact with Mr Kunn online before I came and he was so facilitative. When we arrived at about 7pm in Siem Reap bus station, the tuktuk driver MR Sei Neang was already there waiting with our names written on the white paper and with warm welcoming smile.we paid $2 going to the lodge, the same price you will pay for other drivers that you don't know might just charge you more.we were informed that we will have a breakfast the following day free of charge. we paid $9 for 1 big bed with fan and hot water.they booked the apsara dance to us and we paid 8 dollars only, the lowest price in town and that includes buffet. the atmosphere at jasmine made me feel i'm just at home.the staff are very friendly and im recommending Jasmine to my fellow budget travelers.

Highly recommended to all, although it has some bad reviews.
We definitely feel that the owner Kunn run this hotel with all his heart. We even get a personal ride from him to the night market with zero cost. ^O^
$18 for a tripple room (with air-con), and breakfast included every morning, cheap~
Also Kunn is so friendly, and so helpful. He even give us one big pack of his newly bought Nescafe Vietnamese instant coffee for FREE after he knew that we like the coffee so much. =)
Is really a great place for backpackers.

Arrived around 1pm and were shown a room that we looked at too quickly. After we paid we realize that our room smelled strange and the bathroom leaked water into the room. We asked to change and the management refused nor offered any concession to alleviate our annoyance. To my amazement he did not allow us to change the second day since we had paid already. As usual his main concern was if he could provide our transportation to the temples. (Best seen on bikes by yourself for next to nothing). There are new rooms at this establishment and if you get them I think your experience may be different. $15 a night was the going rate for a new room in Siem Reap at this time and it was not fair that we were given a substandard room. We easily found a better room at a similar price with swimming pool and free internet.
When you book with a place you want to know confidently that you will be treated fairly. This is not guaranteed at the Jasmine Lodge.

  • Liked — The breakfast was okay
  • Disliked — Poor quality room and management more concerned about selling tours than taking care of guests.

I disagree as well. I think for a budget guesthouse, it was great value. For $15 a night, we got 3 beds with fan, and a clean bathroom (with heating) together with free breakfast every morning. I had my apprehensions and was quite worried that I wouldn't be safe or be able to sleep but I was really glad I stayed there because it was quite conveniently located and the staff were very friendly AND the room was quite comfortable. Hak, the receptionist always greeted us and always offered his help. Chin, our tuk-tuk driver was also experienced and really friendly. But the thing I liked most was that, the friendliness of the staff and the breezy, garden living room type restaurant made me feel right at home. I really enjoyed the place and the conversations with Mr Kunn, Hak and Chin.

  • Liked — the staff (and heating! yay!)
  • Disliked — the corridors were a little too dark at night.

We stayed her with another couple we met on our travels for a week in May. A double room was only $5. We had a very basic room (by choice) with ensuite & fan (we hate sleeping in air con). Look, the rooms are very basic but how much time do you spend there? We found the staff to be the best thing & it was great to have a family & kids there to get a feel of the culture. Staff couldn't be more helpful & arranged a dependable tuk-tuk driver after a shady experience trying to find the hotel. Don't let drivers tell you it's too far away from the centre of town (they are just looking for commissions & it's only a 5 min walk or a $1 moto ride). It has a pool table & bar upstairs that is lovely & relaxing & breakfasts are simple but very cheap. You will mostly eat out in Siem Reap, anyways. I recommend to visit the orphanage that this hotel sponsors & take some food items, school equipment, clothes &/or hygiene products - the kids are in great need & the orphangae saves kids from having to live & beg in the streets - it is a rewarding experience & gives something back to a country who we take advantage of for the cheap tourism. next door you can get massages from blind massage therapists - it was a better massage than the more tourist orienated centres in the middle of town. Ask for Chin as your tuk-tuk driver for the temples - he's wonderful! We were so sad to leave & we will definitely come back to Jasmine!

  • Liked — The relaxing upstairs bar & staff
  • Disliked — rooms not cleaned often - may need to ask staff
