“budget lodging with very budget room interior”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Stayed in Jasmine for many times. From their old lodge to the new one. My first stay was at the old lodge was terrible. rooms were full of mosquitoes, only one small fluorescent light to light the room. Water heather was useless..but in Cambodia who wants a water heater.

Second to Third to Fourth stay was ok since we were given the better rooms, not much mosquitoes, but still resembles the old interior facade of a brown toilet bowl and the likes.

They do serve free baguette breakfast, quite reasonable.

Overall if one is looking for a budget stay its quite ok. also quite near the downtown.

I booked 2 nights here during their Khmer New Year and have mixed feelings about the the lodging

Positive points:
- spacious rooms and bathroom
- tv had decent cable
- has the backpacker feel: they have a common area, you need to remove your shoes when you enter
- quick response to e-mails
- filling breakfast
- was able to book for us a bus to PP even though it was new year
- walking distance to the pub street and other establishments
- cheap
- one of the concierge, Zoe, was very friendly and accommodating and had a smile on his face always
- free computer and internet use
- free wifi in the room
- was ok when we only presented a pic of the reservation using an ipad

Negative points:
- they did not pick us up at the airport although we arranged for a pick- up
- they actually have 2 buildings, the main one you have to enter a street first, the other, the annex is in the main road and had ongoing construction when we were there, so it seemed shady at first. We were placed in the annex and so every time we had to arrange something or when we ate breakfast, we had to cross and go to the main building. There was an office in the annex but was mostly vacant, and there were clothes on the chairs.
- the other concierge, I'm guessing it was the owner, was not that friendly as compared to the other one. He talked in a clipped tone and rarely smiled at us.
- the aircon took too long to make the room cooler, and the fan was not working most of the time.
- there was no hot water, although it did not bother us because it was summer when we visited the country
- the room had the wood/ musty smell possibly because of the wooden furniture

To sum up, if you plan to book just so you could eat and sleep, then this is ok. Otherwise, I think there would be better options in the vicinity.

Room Tip: Request for rooms in the main building so that you don't have to cross the main street especiall...

The common area and the pool are really very nice, so first impressions were good. Unfortunately, we soon met the owner (I assume) of the lodge. We booked online, but he said he couldn't find our booking and that we should go on a computer to print out the reservation. We made a screenshot on a smartphone, but that wasn't good enough for him. After about 10 minutes he 'suddenly' found the reservation and asked us to pay. Online it said that we could pay by credit card but apparently only his wife knows how that works. He wanted us to hand in our passports (yeah right, buddy) or we should wait until his wife came back (he didn't know when). He was very unfriendly and uninterested. After paying in cash he finally showed us our ' poolview' room. To be honest, we could see a tiny corner of the pool. There was a huge dead insect on the floor and the airconditioning wasn't working, only the fan on the ceiling. The room was furnished in such an unpractical manner that I could only walk next to my bed sideways (I'm a tiny person) and there were stains in the sheets. The shower itself was ok, but there was no curtain or screen and the toilet was right underneath it. The whole bathroom would get flooded if we took a shower. Every time we walked around the common area the owner would randomly ask us our room number as if he didn't believe that we were actually guests. The rest of the staff we met were friendly bit didn't speak English. It took forever to get the food our drinks you ordered and possibly even longer to get your change back. We wanted to be at Angkor wat at sunset, but getting our change back took so long we almost missed it. When I explained the situation to the owner he said that we should've paid straight away then and gave me the change extra slowly. He also tried to give me less change... Seriously on of the most unsympathetic people I have ever met in my life. My negative feelings towards the owner aside, the room and the service were below average. The pool was very nice and clean though and the common area was cosy. Unfortunately, that didn't compensate for the very serious flaws. I would tell anyone to stay away and go to ANY other place.

I'm not one to complain, I look for the good in all the places we've stayed and the best part about here is the fact it's £4 a night. You get free wifi which is hit and miss, a swimming pool and a/c or a fan.
We hadn't booked a room we had just turned up and luckily people had just checked out. Were staying in the dorm 3 rd floor up, a lot of stairs and then a dangerous metal staircase that is so
Narrow. The staff I found to be rude and blunt, they say one thing and then change their mind 2 minutes later, for example, they said we could get a tuk tuk for 4 people for the day for $12 all together, 2 minutes later it went up to $15 each way so $30 in total.

We also asked to change up our big notes for little ones, we gave them $100 and they gave us the change and said you hadn't given the $100 yet. Trying I get more from us. Just keep your wits about you. I personally wouldn't stay here again the location isnt the best you don't feel comfortable walking around after 7pm .

Be cautious at what hotel your staying at. There are 2 run by the same owner, this one is about jasmine lodge.

I hope this helps whoever reads it. I only want to prevent people being scammed. My sister loves Cambodia but I've not had a very good start. Hopefully it gets better

our family (my husband, me and our 9 y.o. son) stayed in Jasmine Lodge in February 2013 for 3 nights (but wish we could stay much longer since absolutely fell in love with Cambodia and Cambodian people). The hotel is very good budget friendly hotel (our room for 3 people with AC was $25/night). The stuff is excellent, very friendly, trying hard to please, and they all either speak English or try to speak English. The room was clean, pretty basic but we didn't expect much for the money we paid. There is a fantastic pool - very clean, good looking and very well taken care off- we used the pool several times a day.
There is a restaurant on-site, they serve very decent breakfast, and then you can order good food and nice drinks from them any time of the day. The fish amok they cooked was excellent and way-way better than we tried in a restaurant near Phnom Kulen National Park.
The hotel arranged for tuk tuks both days we needed (first day we used a taxi since traveled to a remote locations) and the owner was very helpful in guiding us with the price for a taxi.
In general, we felt that we made excellent choice by staying in this hotel and would certainly recommend it to others.

We stayed here for 4 nights in April 2013.
It has a great vibe with nice staff.
We stayed in a double air-con room for $20, good value considering it has a nice pool.
We heard the dorms were only $8 which is also good value.
Not too far from pub street, walkable, but also an easy $1-2 tuk-tuk drive.
Tuk-tuks are always outside to take you anywhere you want, they do good tours of Angkor, & will do bespoke ones if you wish.
I would stay again no question if back in SR.

Jasmine Lodge was a very nice place to stay. The staff were friendly. very helpful and tried hard to to speak good English. They are very not optimal located, but not in a noisy area. They booked our tuk tuk to the site. The hostel was reasonably modern and clean. Some dutch guys were annoyed because, when you go early in the morning there is no compensation for the breakfast; neither in value nor as a food package. Nonetheless: recommended!
