This group that have set up these specific tours in the Cambodian countryside, are truly amazing. They will ensure you have a great time and knowledgeable experience, while allowing you to delve into the rural lifestyle there. This was my favourite day spent in Cambodia, and a time I will never forget.

“If you want a truly authentic day with locals...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2014

We had an extra day in Siem Reap, and I saw his advertisment at Siem Reap Hostel (excellent place, see other review). We decided to do it - and it was great decision.

Sambo picked us up at 10 and drove us to the village he grew up in. Dinner, a chicken, was served, and we ate with the family. There was no attempt to cater to us at westerns. The family ate the rice with their hands and so did we. We ate rice, chicken, and a minced fish mixed with ants that they family usually eats. I can't say that I liked it, but it was authentic.

After a nap in the hammock, and playing with the kids, we went to a local fishing hole. Sambo and the family father went fishing with a chain link net, throwing the small fish ashore, where I would put them into the bucket. (Please note, I was the first customer to be but by a leech here, so be careful of them!) We then made a fire where the grilled up the fish and mussels they had caught. While they cooked, we could swim (in an old stone quarry where there were no leechs). The water was amazingly warm and wonderful. Bring a swimsuit and towel, if you are okay with changing in the bushes!

Dinner was had in the shade of the jeep. While I won't pretend the food was good, it was certainly authentic. Sambo shared so many stories with us - stories of the past and present day. We arrived back at our hostel at 7pm.

There was nothing touristy about this - it was as authentic as could be, and an experience I highly suggest.

“Amazing Day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014

This was my favourite day of the whole of my trip. Far too much of our time was being spent herded like cattle from one attraction to the next. On the bus, off the bus, take a photo of this. A day out with Sambo is SO far away from that. A totally chilled out day, we met the family and some local kids, wandered around the land near Sambo's family home picking herbs to go with lunch and being shown other plants they use for medicine. Lunch was running around half an hour earlier and was definitely the freshest chicken I've ever eaten! We were taken fishing, cooked the fish over a fire, took our shoes off and went wading through the paddy fields. As Sambo says, he is not a tour guide, he is a tuktuk driver, so you'll get as much or as little as you want from him. He won't talk all day and bore you about things you're not interested in, but equally has an infinite amount of knowledge on the Khmer Rouge, farming and what life is like living in Cambodia if you're interested and ask him a few questions.

Cannot recommend this trip enough - we had such a brilliant day

“Off the beaten track”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2014

Great day off the beaten track, in the Cambodian countryside. This was an amazing experience, far away for the ebullient Siem Reap. Good way to learn about true Cambodia lifestyle.
If you have to do one thing beside the temples in Siem Reap: THIS IS IT.

“Unforgettable day in Cambodia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014

If you want an authentic cultural trip and to understand what it's really like to live in a Cambodian village - this is the trip for you. Sambo our tour leader was fantastic he was very enthusiastic and genuine. He and the villagers took good care of us throughout the day and gave us an insight into their daily routines. We had an amazing Cambodian lunch and got the chance to talk with the family and play with the children. The whole day was magical and a life changing experience. Thanks Sambo, we hope to see you again soon!
