“Wonderful Hotel”
Reviewed July 6, 2010

What a great surprise to find this outstanding hotel through tripadvisor. it is a beautiful hotel, attentive staff (Robert was superb), excellent breakfast included, and tradiational Khmer music in the dining room and lobby. We had a large, clean and well decorated landmark room overlooking the pool with excellent airconditioning (for $55/night on agora). We ate dinner around the pool one night while listening to a live band and really enjoyed the ambience of the hotel. Some reviews have talked about the location but that's ridiculous. This is a very small city and we loved riding the tuk-tuks that took 5 - 10 minutes anywhere in town. We also arranged for a driver at $95 for 3 days (airconditioned camry) which was a nice way to see the amazing Angkor temples. The only downside I found was that currently there was no wifi in the rooms so I had to go down to the free business center to use one of their 4 computers. Overall, I would (and have) recommended this hotel to my friends planning a visit to Siem Reap.

I stayed a week in this hotel and found it very difficult to fault. The hotel is beautiful and very clean, the staff were always nice, the breakfast was good, and my room was big, clean and comfortable. It's not in the "tourist" area, but when it takes $2 and 3 minutes to get to the middle of town by tuk tuk this really didn't matter, and there was always a tuk tuk waiting outside the hotel.

The hotel was nice, although the staff did not meet the expectations. I would consider this a 4+ star hotel with a 3+ star staff. As mentioned in other reviews, the location is a bit away from everything, and requires a $2USD tuktuk ride to the town. The hotel allowed an early check-in (9am) which was nice, but the check-in took approx. 45 minutes. They seemed a bit confused at the beginning even though I provided the confirmation number for my reservation, and they never could explain what was taking so long. In addition, my room rate included a "consumption credit" which took three tries until somebody could properly explain what this was exactly. The pool facility was extremely nice, however trying to order food and drinks poolside was a struggle (hello?? anyone??). Also the mats on the seats were dirty (however very comfortable), would be nice if they wiped them down on a daily basis. The room was a nice size, clean, and with proper amenities. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT is that around 10pm, a very loud argument started in the adjoining room. I went to the front desk to complain, and initially they tried convincing me that nobody was in the adjoining room. After further complaining, they made a call to the room, and then responded to me that "a meeting" was being held in the adjoining room. I was quite disappointed by this type of response from the hotel, as I have higher expectations for a hotel of this nature. The restaurant was the exception to the hotel staff - I found the quality of staff and food to be fantastic. The interesting thing is that food and beverage pricing seems to change between the room/poolside/restaurant menus - not sure why this is. The Spa was also very nice. After the third time asking, they did finally allow a late check-out at 2pm. However at checkout, they did not take into account the 30% spa discount that was being offered, so a careful look at the bill is necessary. Finally I allowed them to convince us to use our Limousine bus pick-up service instead of the hotel's complimentary transport service, which was a big mistake - I think this was laziness on the hotel side, they should know what type of vehicle the pick-up will be sending.

Overall, for the facilities are very nice, however the staff needs further development. I would stay again but only for the right price.

Very elegant grand hotel located in the middle of nowhere. It's located on National Road #6 but with no restaurants or stores around it. It's a good 20-30 minute walk to the centre of town but I recommend taking their version of a Tuk Tuk instead which costs $2 USD one way. It should have been located closer to the other major hotels near the Royal Residence so for that reason I cannot recommend this hotel. Otherwise it was a very nice hotel.

We stayed there over the weekend. Took tours from the hotel, they gave us a good mini bus, professional guide and good driver.

We were well looked after - cold water and cold towels after every temple visit, great food in the hotel. Hotel is quiet and tastefully designed.

My wife and I just came back from Siem Reap. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a good place to stay. The airport pick-up is complimentary and the hotel driver was patiently waiting for us in spite of our delayed arrival. The check-in was smooth. They will usher you to the lounge where a girl is playing a soothing Cambodian instrument and given your welcome drink. Your hotel room keys are brought to you and there is no need standing around the counter.
Hardwood flooring is all over the hotel including the rooms and is quite elegant. Our room which is overlooking the pool is clean and comfortable. The bathroom has a dark grey slate stone flooring and the shower is glass enclosed. There is a nightly bed turn down service.
The breakfast buffet is not bad and even includes two omelet/waffle cooking stations and a hot noodle soup station.
We hired a car and a driver through the hotel for $35 a day. Our driver, Sowatha spoke good English and provided us a good itinerary for Angkor Wat and the sorrounding area. Cold bottled water and towel is always ready for us after each temple visit. Transport back to the airport is also provided for free.
The location is very ideal and there is always a tuk tuk waiting to bring you downtown for $2. We felt very safe in Siem Reap even at night.
I highly recommend this hotel and the value is unbeatable.

My husband and 9 month old daughter stayed with me at the hotel. We went during the off season so we got a good package deal - $100/night including breakfast, dinner and 55 minute massage for my husband and myself.

PROS:
Decor - wood floors and details throughout the hotel give it character
Super friendly staff – always smiling and friendly
Room service – we had room service a few times and it was always good, timely and had good presentation (my Khmer curry chicken was in a banana leaf, for example)
Breakfast buffet – wide variety of food including (but not limited to) yogurt station, noodle soup station, fruit station, hot food station (incl. fried potatoes, French toast, miso soup, congee), bread and cheese station, omelets/fried egg/waffle station. It was all good and could please every palate. We had “take away” bfast one morning so we could see the sunrise at Angkor Wat and it included a box with an assortment of breads, a local orange (they are green on the outside) and some bacon. It was nice of them to provide this in lieu of our sit-down meal given the restaurant didn’t open for a few more hours.
Dinner – during off season they don’t have a buffet but rather a set menu that included 5 courses (small appetizer, salad, soup, entrée and dessert). I think they have a few items on rotation so if you don’t like the entrée included in the set menu that night, they will trade it for you. Note that the beef is a bit chewy for the Western palate. We enjoyed the chicken the most – never tried the pork loin entrée. Soups included tomato, pumpkin, seafood chowder and I think that is it. You could trade the dessert for fruit if you wanted to as well. Two of the three nights we ate there, we were the only people in the restaurant (as mentioned previously, it is off season). Would do the dinner option again since we have a baby and it simplified our evenings but it does get repetitive after a few nights.
Massage - I wanted to take the lady home with us! It isn't anything fancy but it was an experience in itself (the Khmer massage is what we both got) - we've never been so twisted and cracked in so many ways and left feeling very relaxed!
Pool - was great place to relax after going to the temples all day and was shaded in the late afternoon
Internet - free use of the computers in the business center that had Internet - there is a sign that says they charge but we were told it was free and never had to pay

CONS:
Bathroom cleanliness issue - upon check-in, there was mold/mildew on the shower curtain! The third time we asked them to clean it, we showed the front desk pictures of the gross curtain and they exchanged it quickly at that point. It was an easy fix and should have been fixed the first time w/o us having to show them pictures - I'd like to think it was a communication issue as other than this issue, we really enjoyed our stay there. Either way, the cleaning staff should have thrown the curtain out a long time ago as there was mold/mildew on several spots on the curtain - gross!!!

OVERALL:
Yes, I'd recommend this hotel to a friend if they can get the package deal - the massage alone made our stay worth it!

Dear Madam & Sir,

Greetings from Borei Angkor Resort & Spa.

We thank you very much for your valued time dropped your comments and we are glad to hear your overall satisfactory experience during your recent stay in our resort. We very much appreciate about comment on the cleanliness of the curtain in the bathroom that was not cleaned as it supposed to be, which is one of the functional values that must be ready before your arrival.

We must not oversee this such important issue of cleanliness for this particulary on your bathroom as we also understood that, is one of the biggest concern and worrisome whenever selecting hotel to stay. Again, we apology for that such t late response to your comment by our front office staff until she saw the picture and fixed the problem immediately, we found that the communication between front office and housekeeping was lost and never followed up on this case. We have been followed up with this case and brought the concerned personss as well as the two departments involved for extensive meeting and discussion to use as learning case in order to improve for better quality services and products.

We, the management of Borei Angkor Resort & Spa sincerely thanks for your feedback and if any thing, we could do from here to reciprocate our gratitude toward your comments, we would highly consider our action toward it.
