“Ancient city full of surprises”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Entering the city along the bridges flanked with the guardians of good evil on each side holding onto the Naga and then going through one of its five gates takes you into a serene forest dotted with temples and structures. The tree lined road full of tuk-tuks but not maga tour busses made the journey around Angkor Thom a great experience. The elephant and baboon terrace was spectacular for their carvings and our favourite temple The Bayon was located within.

“The old capital”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

Huge. Get a tuk tuk to drive You through a massive area of lost and found temples. Bike? forget it, too hot. There are few temples worth watching, the rest is 'naaah, the same'. Take some lunch with You as there is no good place to eat in there. And they overprice You very badly (two continental breakfast and drinks for 12 USD - for the price of full dinner in center of Siem Reap)

“A great surprise”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

Huge complex of temples, with some of the largest in Angkor.
The entrance gates are very interesting, super high with huge faces carved in the black stone.
The Bayon with dozens of these faces carved in even higher towers of black stones are just amazing!

“Another amazing wonder of the Khmer empire”
Reviewed March 14, 2014 via mobile

I loved this temple complex! We felt like explorers in "the great city"! The Bayon temple was spectacular! Much has been written about it... I went in the afternoon and it was over 100f - pretty hot.. So you may want to get there as early as you can. Just remember to visit the Bayon temple for an explorer like a experience. This place is great!

“Ancient City”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

Angkor Thom covers a vast area with many interesting structures and ruins and is a complete ancient royal city. As such it takes a long time to visit the whole site and appreciate the grandiose scale of everything. The most impressive structure is the Bayon Temple which is the subject of its own entry and reviews, and definitely should not be missed, but there are numerous other structures which are worthy of attention if ytou can afford the time. In this category I would particularly mention the Terrace of Elephants. Make sure you have a good plan of the site, a decent guidebook, or a guide before visiting this site.
