Owner description: This magnificent inner royal city was built by the end of the 12th century and is renowned for its temple grounds and towering southern gate.

Angkor Thom was much more impressive, in my opinion, than the more well-known Angkor Wat. I felt like I could really imagine what life must have been like for the Khmer people during J7's reign when I was touring through the vast areas inside Angkor Thom.

What can I say. Amazing. Check out the walls, watch out for dodgy cops and have a great time. Do it good sunlight and the photos will be great.

What an amazing place to visit, the temples are so atmospheric and a wonderful place to walk around. Take the time to walk through the historical gardens and go back in time, see the Elephant Terrace and wonder at the skills of the local people.
Take time to go through the south gate and walk across the bridge over the moat to see the statues of gods and demons holding the Naga Snake from the 12th century.

Nothing more to say about this amazing place than awe inspiring. And you can still find a few little temples where you are the only person there. Spent 2 full days seeing everything. Just take some lollies or candy to give the kids that pester you.

This is one of the best if not the best complex of temples anywhere in the world because it has so many amazing historical sites in one very large area, ok the Taj Mahal complex is stunning but is not as old. Baphoun & Bayon as individual temples are brilliant but so to are the kings gardens. A wonderful walk thru historical gardens trying to imagine just how these places would have looked a 1000 years ago. As in other reviews I would really love CGI to be used to recreate a vision of how all the temples once looked because like the pyramids there was a lot of colour that is no longer present except on very small sections, clearly in their day these places were magnificent. On the outer wall of the Kings garden there is a wall with a line of elephants carved in to it, when you see the scale of the carving it is mind boggling to imagine how many craftsmen must have been working on these sites at any one time. A note to first time visitors, suggest you arrange with your hotel or guide to buy your 3 day passes a day or so before you commence your tour of the temples, it will avoid a potential loss of 2 hrs at the ticket office which on most days is a nightmare! The 3 day pass is valid for up to 7 days, so buying the day before still gives 3 days out of 6 to choose.
