Owner description: This magnificent inner royal city was built by the end of the 12th century and is renowned for its temple grounds and towering southern gate.

Ruins of a large old city. Bayon is the best attraction in Angkor Thom. The rest are Baphuon, Royal Palace and the terraces. The terraces and Royal Palace are mostly in ruins. Baphuon is a restored site.

It was pouring during our afternoon visit to this distinctive temple. This is the one with the large Buddha faces. Inside, the walls were detailed with carvings showing the history and culture of the khmer people leaving at that time.nthese were surprisingly in good condition. Nearby we visited the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leopard King.

Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat are the musts of any visit. All other parts add significant to your understanding of this place.

The whole Angkor Park area covers 400 sq kilometers with so much to see. The old capital from the entrance gate to the temple in the middle is so interesting to see. Don't miss it.

It's huge, full of temples, vast expanse and full of variety.

I suggest a full day or at least long day is not a stupid option.

It's not just Bayon and Elephant temple.

It would be tough to see every part of this on most vacations. A huge walled city with several areas to see and sights within it's boundaries. A day won't cut it here. you need at least the 3-day pass to really get some exploration into your trip.
