The room they gave us had no window. Though in other respects it appeared functional. For $5 more we got a window and a balcony. That's when things got better. It's not the cheapest, and breakfast is not included, and they do want to sell you trips all the time. But, making our own choices, it gave us a very comfortable base. The upstairs communal area is full of old world charm and very spacious. Internet works, room fridge works, shower works (and is hot).

We stayed at Shadow II (about 5 min walk from the original Shadow I) and for US$20/day you can not ask for more. The deluxe room is of high standards - very clean, well appointed and well maintained. The hotel staff are courteous, helpful and speak English. The location is quiet at night for you to rest after touring temples the whole day but is still near enough for a short walk to the old market, pub street. We didn't bother eating here (limited food service) because there are lots of restaurants / bars nearby to choose from (be adventurous, it's safe!). WiFi service is very good & for free! I am recommending this guesthouse to all my friends & relatives.

It seems that if you want to be treated kindly by this people, you have to spend all your money there (having breakfast, renting a bike...) If you decide doing this somewhere else, they are not happy anymore. The owners are stingy and had very bad manners in many occasions. In fact they were the worst staff I've ever met.
The place itself is beautiful, well located and nice,he staff, not at all.

Spent 7 months in Cambodia 2008, stayed in alot of hotels. This hotel (guesthouse), is not to be confused with the one in the old market. We are currently staying here for expected 6 months, volunteering. This hotel is in easy walking distance to the old market and entertainment. This is a new building and the rooms are more than adequate. Meals are cheap as is the beer. Very clean and great staff, who are more than helpful for those doing tours. Nice pool, and free internet. THIS IS THE HOTEL TO STAY,
ps.................and the price is right too.

We stayed 5 nights in Shadow of Angkor 11 (two) and loved it. It is a new guest house in a quiet part of Siem Reap. It is across the river from the original Shadow and is not listed as a separate hotel to the original shadow for some reason.
The room was very spacious as was the bathroom. There was also a balcony that was large enough to sit on and have a drink and chat. The location is very central.
The pool was very clean and very inviting after a hot day visiting the ruins. The internet (slow slow slow) is free.
Breakfast is not included but is very inexpensive and a good menu is available.
Staff was very helpful and friendly. Sorry I did not get the names of the two guys on the front desk. Very overworked - long hours.
In the same street is the Butterfly Restaurant and it has amazing meals

There original Shadow of Angkor is on the town side of the river and serves excellent meals.

This was a great place for us to stay for 6 nights in October.

The room was reasonable sized with a big double bed with a huge heavy carved head board. It also came with aircon and a TV with few English language movie channels. Cost was reasonable.

The room was clean and they did our laundry for us, a a reasonable rate. There is a cafe restaurant downstairs that we never used but we did get drinks, and those drinks can be delivered to your room while you are in bed watching films for no extra charge!

We used a tuk tuk driver from outsid to show us aroudn the sites, probably not the cheapest and you need to agree in ADVANCE what you want to see as we wanted to see some of the further away ones and had interesting cost discussions, all reasonably amicable. We also used the services of the rather tragic former soldier now book seller that had both his hands blown off by a land mine, his little stall is often just outside the hostel. They do have interenet but as mentioned by another reviewer it is painfully slow. It did rain while we were there and we had no leakage issues as mentioned by others.

The staff were friendly and replied to our emails promptly. The location is by the river and within stumbling distance to the main darg but not on it so not so noisy. There are some wonderful places to stay in Siem Reap and if you have the money then I am sure you can live it up, we didnñt have the cash but managed a reasonable impression of the good life staying here.

We are currently staying at ''Shadow of Angkor Guesthouse I''. Even though there is nothing special about the guesthouse, it's clean and simple and the location is ideal. Only a short walk to the Old Markets and Pub Street which has all the great little restaurants and bars. Haven't had any issues so far although they do offer free internet which is painfully slow so don't bother! Our tuk-tuk driver collected us from the bus station and assured us the guesthouse was full but just as well we persevered as our room was held for us even though they didn't know our arrival time. The manager was sending all walk-ins to their other guesthouse number II which is located about 100 metres away but not as good location.
Quiz nights at Funky Munky every Thursday night so try make it to one if you can. Good laugh and great cause.
Enjoy!
