“Fantastic Hotel in a Beautiful Setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2012

This hotel was the biggest surprise of my most recent trip. Build in the French Colonial style, the Ta Phrom abounds with beautiful woodwork, wonderful Khmer style decorations, and exudes a simple elegance from the huge spiral staircase in the lobby, to the large, crystal chandelier in the upstairs bar. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, and made the three day stay very fun and enjoyable, and the rooms were kept spotlessly clean. My view out the window was limited to the wall of the building next door, but otherwise the room was great, with tv, dvd player, comfortable bed, telephone, modern washroom, fridge with two complimentary bottles of water a day, and large closets with many hangers.

The location of the hotel is pretty much perfect. The Old Market is only one block away to the east, while the Night Market is literally right across the street to the south. Famous "Pub Streeet" is just an easy five minute stroll to the north, and is full of wonderful restaurants and, of course, pubs.

The only drawbacks, which I mentioned to management, was, first, that the hotel does not provide in-room safes, but uses a large safe in the lobby. This is fine for the safe-keeping of valuables, but is just a bit more of a hassle. Also, you are given a plastic card and warned not to lose it, or you will not be able to reclaim your items. The other drawback was that all the rooms containing balconies only contain twin beds, rather then double beds. I was assured by management, tho, that this was going to be changed in the coming year, when some of these rooms will be outfitted with double beds.

My only other comment ... altho I loved the use of wood throughout the hotel, perhaps it is a bit overdone in the hallways, where the wood absorbs and great deal of light and the wood panelling does not seem as pleasing to the eye.

Beyond those two small issues, my stay in the Ta Phrom was great! I could not believe that this hotel had been rated so low on tripadvisor, as it was absolutely the best hotel I stayed in during our three city tour of Cambodia. Great staff, comfortable rooms, fantastic location and a good complimentary breakfast. All this for around $30US/night!

Room Tip: There are about 8 or so rooms that have a door opening onto the second floor balcony. If you do not...

Stayed 4 days, with wife.

Location
- excellent
- 5 minutes walk to Pub Street , Old Market , Night Market
- next to it there is a very large convenience store
- tuk-tuk available at door step round the clock

Cleanliness
- over all clean
- though a musty smell in the room every time I would come back

Quality of stay experience
- Average
- rooms do not have safe :-(
- Breakfast is very poor :-(( ( limited selection, repeated every-day, bread/ cereal etc are of poor quality ). Coffee tastes worse n many a times cold. If you are a breakfast person skip this place. I would go the pub street to indulge in 5USD buffet breakfast ..so that's avoidable 10 USD per day.
- Bathtub is pretty high. I m 5 ft 9 inches, getting in n out was bit challenging. but bathroom was clean. hot water round the clock.
- AC is cold :-)
- Wi fi not very reliable.

Service staff
Nice n smiling staff , always greets you in the morning.
Front desk staff bit grumpy and was not of much help on local info , also requested a late check-out ( 2 our extension ) was bluntly denied though the hotel hardly seemed to have high occupancy.
Inflated prices quoted for arranging a Tuk Tuk. ( 20 USD , vs 12 USD ).

So if you are looking for a clean hotel, with basic amenities , in a great location this is your place.
If you are looking for a bit of luxury , pampering , indulgence or wanna impress ur partner :-) there are better places around.

And the river is no larger than a small canal with little water :-). Don't fancy a walk/ drink by the river!

Room Tip: Check if your room has a window overlooking an open space. stayed in 314. that had one ..read review...

Ta prohm has a great location, it's close to the Market area, walking distance from pub street & all siem reap activity. However the rooms are really small. No view at all. The hotel caters more to tour groups hence independent travellers may feel neglected. Staff speaks limited English thus communication is an issue. Its no frills hotel. However the location makes up for what it lacks in asthetics & hospitality.

Starting from the airport, ta prohm was waiting for me and transported me to the hotel for check-in. First, they did give me a room with no real sunlight but immediately gave me another room when the bellman called down so it was a quick change (2 min). The people at the hotel (literally every person) is always greeting you... Good morning, afternoon, night, hello, etc which is really nice. The hotel and room was very clean- had no issues and slept very well (water, aircon, many tv channels- include HBO).
Next, The location of the hotel is fantastic! No matter what you want to do... It is right there. For eating or drinking 3 blocks maximum (pub street/alley) for shopping (every where you turn - one block in every direction from The hotel), including the night market or night shopping is directly across the river or equiv to one block and one block east from
The hotel front door.
They also arranged for a bike rental- waited 10 min for bike to arrive and the $3 full day charge was added to my hotel bill. In addition, arranged a tuk tuk driver to take me to Angkor way for the day... Yes you can easily arrange this on your own- but what made a difference was that Buon(driver name) was always looking for me temple after temple and I didn't have to struggle to find him among the 40 other tuk Tuks.
Another perk was that in walking distance (1 block to tourist office) and two blocks to my favorite tour company-Beyond who i used and Went to kompong phluk for a great tour!
Overall a great hotel..and would definitely stay there again! The only reason not to stay here is for a pool. I never asked if they had an agreement anywhere (ie $5 a day to use another pool) but I did run into people who had a pool and either never used it or they said they were far away from
Downtown and had to use a tuk tuk everywhere and would have preferred a better location.

Most of the hotels are around the town. Therefore, you'll need to spend money on a tuk tuk to get into town to eat or go to a pub. The town has plenty of guest houses, but this is a real hotel in a good location. Very easy to get up early in the morning and get a tuk tuk to Angkor Wat.

We stayed in Ta Phrom hotel for 5 nights in Oct 2011. The hotel is great, with good location (walking distance to old market and pub street), good river view, excellent service, and very good price. We had a good time in Siem Reap and will definitely choose Ta Phrom again for a second visit to Siem Reap!

We spent five nights in this pleasant hotel located next to the River in a relatively quiet area near the Old Market. A good location for exploring in all directions. We visited in May, the off-season, so the restaurant was not open, except for breakfasts (which was good).

The rooms are clean and the A/C and hot water was more than sufficient.
The staff were helpful and pleasant.
Bicycles are available for rent -- just ask the ladies at the Front Desk.

If you stay at the Ta Prohm, don't be afraid to explore the other side of the river. There are some very pleasant, leafy neighborhoods there, as well as several nice restaurants that do not appear in any guidebooks. One really nice Khmer restaurant was across the river about 5 'blocks' north.

I will definitely stay at the Ta Prohm again.
