The place is massive. Really, really massive! Lot of climbing and walking and needs a lot of patience to take it all in. If you are not in top physical condition and cannot handle the heat, this can be challenging. Set aside 3 hours and bring some water with you, if you want to do justice to the place.

If you are planning a trip to Siem Reap and the Angkor wat area then I would recommend Lekh Puy as your tour guide. Door to door service from your hotel in a reasonable vehicle with a/c and plenty of cold water. We had two and a half days of touring around the region. Lekh guided us by giving us clues as to the best place from which to take our photographs; planned the schedule to avoid the crowds; and ensured we had the right clothing as some of the temples are not open to people wearing tops without sleeves and too short skirts/shorts. It's one of these places that will stay with me. Historically interesting but also spiritually very touching.

We visited here at sunrise, as did many others! Although it was full of tourists it was beautiful and amazing to see such incredible buildings.

We did a one day small tour of the temples and hired a tuk tuk to get us around the site. I think it was well worth the money. Apart from Angkor Wat at sunrise you can pick a route and miss the crowds if you get to certain areas earlier.

We found it too hot by midday, you need to cover up your legs and shoulders. I was amazed at some people who were surprised to be turned away whilst wearing hot pants and vest tops - it doesn't take much research to understand that you should dress modestly here! You should also wear comfy walking shoes, there is a lot of walking and climbing steps to do!

We experienced a lot of begging, which isn't pleasant, however it's more than worth a visit. I wouldn't visit Cambodia without seeing it!
