When my girlfriend and I decides to go to Thailand for 3 weeks I insisted on a detour to Cambodia. I'm so glad we came to this wonderful country. Angkor Wat was simply the greatest experience of our trip. Watching the sunset and sunrise over the complex was amazing. We had a great Tuk Tuk driver named Tee Tee Hong, he was our tuk tuk driver who took us to our guesthouse and we noticed he had good english so we booked him for $16 to do the small tour of Angkor Wat the next day. He was great and almost acted as a tour guide, knowing when to stop for photos and always explaining buildings for us. From this experience I would recommend that you have a casual chat with your potential tuk tuk driver to see how they're like. Having a nice, informative and good communicator as a driver is a real delight and worth a few extra dollars. As for Angkor Wat, I recommend that you really make sure you've packed enough water and start your day early - we arrived at 4:50 for the sunrise. The complex gets really hot as the afternoon sun hits. And if you're like us and have a "why not...we're already here" attitude...you will be doing A LOT of climbing up to things. I also recommend a hat, sunscreen, sport sandals or runners and a good day pack for water and snacks - wear light clothing but make sure you are modestly covered for the temples. You will noy regret going to Angkor Wat! For the less intense, one day is enough, for the intense one day is not enough. By the way, our tuk tuk driver email (I liked him so much I added him to facebook) is hongtyty@gmail.com.

The grandest wat in the whole of Cambodia and possibly the entire world. This seems to be like a South-East Asian version of a castle, with a moat surrounding the area and with inner chambers for royals to stay.

Entry fee is included in the park pass which allow unlimited entry for the entire day to the temples at the Angkor archeological area. It will cost 20 usd per day. Bring along some sunblock & insect repellent. Be wary of police officers trying to bring you around as they will tend to want a large tip after. Guides are pretty expensive but can found at the bridge connecting to the wat.

amazing to see and such a great day out. we had our own tuk tuk driver bring us around for the whole day. he only charged $20 AUD for the day and drove us to all the temples plus we stopped off for lunch in a local cambodian cafe.

This place is just amazing! Take some good walking shoes as its a big place. We had a very good guide who was able to explain what all the carving were and the story behind them. So a knowledgably guide is important.

We started by arriving at 5:30 AM to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat, which was an amazing site. The sky is filled with various yellow and reds while the sun comes up; the temple silhouette appears, etc. We then went to the pond in front of the temple and watched the reflection for a short time, then on to the temples. The carvings all over the temples were amazing, and the amount of labor involved in building the temples must have been huge!

Although it was extremely hot when we visited, the trip was quite enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it.
