When my girlfriend and I decides to go to Thailand for 3 weeks I insisted on a detour to Cambodia. I'm so glad we came to this wonderful country. Angkor Wat was simply the greatest experience of our trip. Watching the sunset and sunrise over the complex was amazing. We had a great Tuk Tuk driver named Tee Tee Hong, he was our tuk tuk driver who took us to our guesthouse and we noticed he had good english so we booked him for $16 to do the small tour of Angkor Wat the next day. He was great and almost acted as a tour guide, knowing when to stop for photos and always explaining buildings for us. From this experience I would recommend that you have a casual chat with your potential tuk tuk driver to see how they're like. Having a nice, informative and good communicator as a driver is a real delight and worth a few extra dollars. As for Angkor Wat, I recommend that you really make sure you've packed enough water and start your day early - we arrived at 4:50 for the sunrise. The complex gets really hot as the afternoon sun hits. And if you're like us and have a "why not...we're already here" attitude...you will be doing A LOT of climbing up to things. I also recommend a hat, sunscreen, sport sandals or runners and a good day pack for water and snacks - wear light clothing but make sure you are modestly covered for the temples. You will noy regret going to Angkor Wat! For the less intense, one day is enough, for the intense one day is not enough. By the way, our tuk tuk driver email (I liked him so much I added him to facebook) is firstname.lastname@example.org.
