This is a very nice hotel - with nice gardens, a good sized pool, but there are a few odd things about it.

Firstly the rooms. They are generally very nice, but the balconies in other than the suites are too small, with room for only one chair which is not very sociable. The bathrooms are a bit of an odd design, with a large jacuzzi-style bath which is uncomfortable and not particularly easy to get into and out of. The bed was very hard.

Breakfast is excellent. Dinner we found disappointing, being far too bland. We far preferred Viroth's just round the back of the hotel, which was half the price and twice as good.

The main problem we had was the water festival on the river outside the hotel. It takes place at full moon in late October / early November, lasts at least two days and is EXTREMELY noisy. As well as a very loud disco from 6.30am until 11pm, there are fire works being set off. Relaxing by the pool was difficult, and it was no quieter in the room. The hotel management had not anticipated the disco music nor the late finishes; they were however very obliging and moved us to a room at the back of the hotel which was lot better.

Reading the above, you may wonder why I rated this hotel excellent. Despite my reservations, it is a very good small hotel, the staff are very helpful and friendly, and it is generally very comfortable. We would definitely go back - just not at the time of the water festival!

I checked out all the top rated hotels while I was there, and this is, without a doubt, the best hotel, if you seek unique, authentic travel experiences. The location is perfect, our riverside room, provided us with us with a fantastic viewpoint, as the river flooded its banks, the result of the typhoons in the phillipines, we were high and dry and most comfortable. Without rain, it was relaxing to sit and watch the passing bicycles and tuk tuks, (no noise with windows closed) and gave us a sense of place. The vibe is great, the service excellent. perfect internet, excellent and welcoming transfers to and from the airport, wonderful breakfasts, saltwater pool, great spa, all this and `Angkor Wat just down the road. A welcome place to return to after a hard day of temple exploring and late nights drinking at Miss Wongs bar in town. If like you big, impersonal chain hotels, please don't take up space here.
Other top hotels in the town sit on a very dusty, dug up road, or are on the main road so not a nice little wander into the town, like it is from the graceful green lush riverside of La Residence.

A buddy and I stayed at the La Residence last week while in Siem Reap to - what else - see the Angkor complex. From the moment you walk into the hotel, across a little wooden footbridge with beautiful fish swimming in the moat on either side we were put at ease.

The staff was very attentive, friendly and professional. Our room was a lovely, quiet two-bed room with a small outdoor space overlooking the pool. Note that this isn't the best place for friends to share because the room has a very open layout in the bathroom / tub area. It worked out OK but would have been better for a couple.

The pool area is spectacular and the breakfast that was included with our room was divine. We ate twice one day (once at 5 AM when they opened and again a few minutes before 10.30 AM when they stopped breakfast service).

While it is definitely a bit pricey for Cambodia and even tourist Siem Reap, it was well worth what we paid ($165 per night).

We stayed 3 nights. The room (bedroom, living room, bathroom, dressing room, balcony) was serene and sophisticated and OH so gorgeous, I didn't want to leave it.
Everything, from the heavenly aromatic oils burning, the fresh orchids at turn down, the plump soft oversized bath towels AND the sensational bathroom amenities to the pool and grounds, was perfect. I love La residence d'Angkor and would definitely return. The staff offer the perfect balance of attentive, courteous, and helpful without overdoing any of it. Definitely the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

This is one of the most beautifully designed hotels in the world. Elegant and understated in a serene Asian style. The rooms are very quiet. Reproductions of nearby Angkor Wat temple statues are used to decorate the grounds and the rooms. The lighting throughout adds to the restful ambience. Beautiful landscaping, includes the entrance which is a bridge over a koi pond and foliage that provides privacy for the balcony looking over the pool area. Rooms are decorated in a blend of contemporary asian and French colonial styles. The hotel is impeccably maintained and the service is extremely attentive. Only a few blocks down is Bopha, a Khmer restaurant with beautifully-presented delicious food at ridiculously inexpensive prices.

This is a fantastic hotel. The staff are superb, the rooms magnificent and the pool divine. After four nights we decided to stay in town a bit longer. We visited several other "top" hotels and the clear decision was to stay where we were!
The addition of a few more rooms and and on-site spa (due for completion september 2009) will only add to the appeal.

We stayed four nights at this hotel. It is well located in Siem Reap. The hotel structure, pool area, and interior are contemporary, but combine traditional Khmer elements in a very satisfying way. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and had a lovely view of the pool area. The hotel staff did a very good job of setting us up with an English-speaking guide to take us to Angkor Wat and the other local sites.

Our only disappointment was the restaurant: the food at the one dinner we ate there was very bland. Happily, we discovered that there is an excellent restaurant (Viroth) just behind the hotel that serves excellent and inexpensive Cambodian food. Also, the hotel is just a short ride by tuk-tuk ($2 each way) to other good dining options in Siem Reap.

The hotel restaurant offers performances of traditional Cambodian dancing two nights a week. While we didn't enjoy our dinner at the restaurant, the dancing was very enjoyable.
