In early January, we stay for a few days at Ruffles "Grand Hotel d'Angkor" in Siem Reap. What a disappointment!
The foyer, dinning rooms, boutiques and swimming pool are beautiful, but the hotel is like Grand Central Station at rush hour, full of people coming and going. Music is played through speakers in the corridors leading to the bedrooms until well passed bed time.
Also, there is a sickly smelling insect repellent used throughout the hotel. We had a room with a pool view. The room was passable.
There are a lot of problems with this hotel. The staff is not properly trained. They have no idea what to do when you order wine or how to handle an emergency. It took two people to open a bottle, only to leave the open bottle on the table without pouring. They are solicitous and smile a lot, but they hardly speak, nor do they understand any English.
We were woken up by by very disturbing noises coming from the room next to ours at 2:00 am. We spoke to three different people in security. They did nothing, nobody came to check what the problem was. We addressed the complaint with the hotel manager the morning after. But he did not pay us any attention.
I would rate this hotel for it's beauty and the proximity to the ruins
a little higher than a Florida Motel During Spring Brake.
