“Delicious meals and beautiful setting!”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Our family of 15 ate here for our first dinner in Siem Reap. We chose the set menus and had the fish and pork. Everyone was satisfied with our dinners and the owners, which I contacted to make the reservation in advance, were very quick to reply and very accommodating. We had a tiring day and they informed our guide that we could arrive earlier for our reservation since they had other reservations that evening. The place was clean and the atmosphere very relaxing.

Dear Family!

We remember you well and thank you again for dining with us. It was a pleasure to host you and thank you again for being flexible on the arrangements for a set menu. The timing was perfect, which allowed us to prepare well for your group. Thanks again for a lovely evening!

“Very average food - wish we had eaten elsewhere”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

The ambience of this restaurant is nice, however, the food was just distinctly average and it is neither cheap nor expensive for Siem Reap and it IS possible to make delicious food for a lower cost anyway, as we found during our visit to various hawker stalls at lunchtime.
My partner sampled the Tangram chicken curry and as he had tasted a wide range of Khmer food during our holiday in Siem Reap, he said that this didn't match any of the other tasty curries that he had tried. My burger was just OK, nothing to write home about at all.
I find it rather amusing that the manager expects guests to tell him when something is not right during your meal, but when you read some of the comments he has put on Trip Advisor when people have dared to criticise, it is almost like being told off at school, so who can blame us or anyone else for not wanting to say anything on the night and have our evening spoilt?!?!
And as a matter of fact, most managers that I have seen who comment on Trip Advisor reviews do so with grace and with a slice of humble pie, rather than acting in defence and with bitterness so I look forward to reading the manager's condescending comments to this review and hope he realises that his poor attitude will come across to other readers, which may put some people off wanting to visit the restaurant.

Dear Sir/Madam,

thank you for your comments and feedack towards our care approach. There may be a misunderstanding about the responses written. We see them as constructive feedback and always follow up on comments to improve ourselves. The explanations are not meant to be "schooling" people but simply meant to make people understand the progress that we as a restaurant go through. There is so much to learn from others and there is so much to tell others about us but not all can be put on a website or a Facebook page and not everyone will read in that much detail.

The reason why we always ask our guests what they thought about their evening and/or food is not to expect great comments but actually to collect feedback. We are a young team with almost all of our staff including us as owners being new in this business and all we can do is learn from people to improve ourselves.

Unfortunately some people criticize us for not being able to meet their expectations and take it out quite harshly on sensitive media like Trip Advisor. This hurts in different ways as we work together so hard to please people as much as we can. Although it seems impossible to please 100% of the people that visit us, our service staff and we as owners do our utmost best to retrieve extra information to ensure we please as many people as possible and collect feedback we use for our daily briefings, our tarinings or when we change our menu. The curry will be reviewed for example.

As owners we love to chat with our guests and our staff does the same which results often in very interesting sharing of experiences in basically any subject imaginable. Many people ask us about Cambodia and its economics, culture, people, government, etc. It's great to learn what people have read about Cambodia and learn how the world sees Cambodia these days. We have so many great conversations with people and want to keep learning from them. Therefore we always hope that people remain honest in their feedback directly to us when we talk to them. All we ask for is an honest answer to an honest quesion. We always listen rather than starting a confrontation. All of us simply worked too hard to make this dream happen and we hope we can continue to serve people with a broad smile and share beautiful stories with all of our guests.

Thank you again,

Tangram Team.

“Nice atmosphere”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

I thought the atmosphere was great - the food was hit and miss for us. Some dishes were really good and others were just ok... Worth giving it a try, but expectations should not be for high end gourmet dining.

Dear sir,

thanks for the remarks. Luckily we also do not market ourselves as a high end gourmet restaurant and rather stay in the casual dining region. I think that our prices also indicate that with all main courses priced between USD 6 and 8.

Some reviews written on this site may indicate otherwise and may raise very high expectations. We tried to create a nice atmosphere, hassle free and honest service in combination with a menu that would suit most people looking for a casual dining experience with a bit more eye for detail than elsewhere. We also encourage people to look at our website and read in detail who we are as we do have a very clear description of our food, service, setting and concept.

All the best,

Tangram Team

“Blandest food in South East Asia”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

After returning from dinner at Tangram Garden I compelled to write my first trip advisor review.
* We had the Tangram Curry which tasted like a can of coconut milk with uncooked potatoes.
* The chicken kale stir-fry had no kale and zero taste, all the fat was left on the chicken and to be perfectly honest, it didn't reeeeeealy taste like chicken. (I'm sure it actually was it just tasted funny).
* We asked for some soy sauce, limes and chili to season our own food.
* On the upside, the service was lovely - both friendly and proficient. The apple salad DID taste very yummy.
I would not recommend people to go here.

Dear Sir,

we read on occasion other managers and owners responding to reviews in quite a harsh way and although we do feel compelled to do so in this case for the very first time, we do not think it is inappropriate as everyone has the right to his/her own opinion.

Nevertheless, I personally talked to you and you did mention the curry was "a little bland". but not as you say as in your title. Second, i explained the issues we have on occasion between the taste of westerners and Asian people. Normally we add ginger to our curry but Asian people are not as fond on ginger as westerners. Therefore we are trying to find a middle way. You understood our explanation after which i literally asked: "Would you like to change your food?" Your answer was "No, the rest is good and no problem for us."

Apperently it was a problem and you did not allow us to rectify it on the spot but instead do the "nice in your face, behind the back" trick. As small business owners you can imagine that such comments make you wonder if it is worth all the effort we put into it to please people, especially since we as owners are involved and talk to every single guests we have. The reason for that is that we can rectify things and hope people still leave with a positive feeling, giving our staff an opportunity to also learn from things they have not yet mastered.

However, we have to accept that people like yourself have issues being honest to an open minded management that always takes feedback into account to improve ourselves. Our cooks were asked after your comment to taste their own curry and comment what was wrong. They took note. Unfortunately you did not take us up on our offer to try something else and decided to go this way instead after being asked for your honest feedback.

I found this beautiful restaurant on TripAdvisor looking for somewhere special to have my 50th Birthday dinner and I couldn't have chosen a better place it was just perfect I sent an email booking, which I got an immediate reply to saying they would pick us up from our hotel and they did, everything was as I had expected with little private huts spread through beautiful gardens the staff were wonderful we were told to turn a light on for service but only had to do that for the bill as the service was impeccable I had 3 cocktails which were really nice and the beer my husband had was very cold the food was delicious particularly the BBQ ribs and the Caramelized pineapple is a must it had 1 piece of pineapple and 2 bananas with coconut ice cream yum!
Absolutely loved this restaurant and highly recommend it.
