Arriving at the airport we were expected and got complimentary transfer to the hotel. The hotel building is ugly in the infamous Chinese style like the most hotels at the road to the airport. We were doubting to have chosen the right resort. But after seeing our spacious room in a villa overlooking the beautiful pool area, we were delighted. The rooms are well equipped and you do not miss anything. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast was covering all tastes, ok, the cheese was sweating and also the sausages were not really nice to look at. The distance to the city is about 15 minutes by tuktuk. The internet connection was very fast and there were never any problems. In this hotel you get great value for your money and it can be only recommended without any ifs or buts.

Dear Elcoco,

Greetings from Sokhalay Angkor Villa Resort !

We valued all your feedback. The front area there will be something different from the others.

However the amazing part and mystery is within our Resort with 5 hectare of land. There is only leading Resort in Cambodia where you found that very private and felt at home.

We are on reviewing our breakfast items and for sure there will be starting soon. We are going to launch our Free Tuk Tuk to town for our valued clients. You will completely experience this service on your next trip.

We look forward to welcome you back home again soon.

Have a great day.

At first we were hesitant to stay here because it seemed a bit out of town. It was not a problem in the slightest. Tuk tuks were cheap and readily available. The facilities were awesome, 2 pools, nice restaurant, gym, sauna, day spa to name a few. It is on 5 hectares of amazingly landscaped property. The breakfast was delicious! !! But the best part of all were the staff! They are so friendly and such great english. They make you feel like v.i.p. thanks sokhalay. We will be back with our families in 2014 :)

Stayed at a pool villa. Very nice and the room where so big. We had booked two rooms for us (two adults two kids) but we could have made it with just one, without an extra bed.

Everything was okay. The pool is probably the biggest in town and the kids loved it. I could have been a little bit deeper. The deepest is 1,30 m and that's just a small part of the pool. The rest is just between 50-80 cm. For a family with kids that swims perfectly its kind of shallow.

The food was very nice. But it is a bit expensive. You can get the same food (even more tasty) down town for half the price. But this is always the case at 5 star hotels - expensive restaurants but not equally tasty. Why is that? Expensive food should be extra tasty...

The overall experience was very nice though. But why is the beds in Asia so hard? I would have given the hotel an "excellent" review if the beds where softer. Had a bad back getting up in the morning due to the hard bed.

Reviewed November 10, 2013

Sokhalay Angkor Villa Resort is one of those very rarest of instances when the real place actually exceeds the expectations set by images and description on the resort's website. The buildings really are impressively constructed wooden villas in Khmer style; the grounds are lovely, lush, and provide deep shade from the intense Cambodian sun; the pool is crystal clear, warm, and slightly salty. The rooms really are that large, with wood floors, handsome furniture, and modern fixtures. Our poolside double villa had a king size bed, a comfortable and nap-able L-shaped sofa, a desk, wardrobe, coffee table and TV stand with lots of room left over for our baby to crawl around and play.

We came to pick Sokhalay Villa out of the literally hundreds of hotel options in Siem Reap through a very specific set of criteria. We wanted to relax and enjoy our time in the hotel as much as we wanted to explore the temples of Angkor and markets in Siem Reap. At another stage of life, the resort's distance from town might have been a bigger disadvantage, but with baby in tow and nap time to schedule, we would have had limited opportunities to take in the night life and markets. Our half day expeditions into the temple areas (between naps) was easily and affordably managed with cars and drivers provided by the hotel. And our time at the hotel was extremely pleasant - the capable young staff went far beyond the necessary to make our stay with the infant as pleasant as possible.

The main restaurant is a beautifully built Khmer style wooden pavilion, open on all sides and surrounded by a carp and lotus-filled moat. Eating there was always a joy simply for the setting. I
never tired of studying the post and beam construction or the intricate carved crossbeams. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious, though options for those unaccustomed to Southeast Asian breakfast items such as noodles and rice porridge might find the choices a bit limited. Dinner at the hotel was very good, especially the western options. The menu would benefit from more Khmer selections, but all the meals were flavourful and well presented. The service was always gracious, friendly, and attentive.

The resort only opened in the last two years, and the general manager informed us that several more of the resort facilities should open in the near future: a children's play room, an air conditioned section of the main dining rooms, a Chinese restaurant and a French restaurant all to open in the near future. Do be aware that there is also a traditional Sokhalay Angkor Hotel and a smaller Sokhalay Angkor Inn all on the same compound. These new facilities will mostly be located at the hotel building, which about is a less than 5 min walk from the far end of the compound.

The place is not without its faults. Ants found any scrap of food left out overnight. There were a few pea-sized jumping spiders on the curtains as well.

But if these minor issues don't turn you away, and you don't mind being a 12 min tuk-tuk ride away from the bustle and hustle of the Old Market, we'd strongly recommend giving Sokhalay Angkor Villas a look.

Room Tip: The pool side villas are worth the couple extra dollars for the light and view.

It’s fantastic to receive your comment from every aspect, on behalf of management and staff I really grateful for your valued time invested in our Resort recently with your wife and a very lovely baby.

We appreciated your complement as there is only one Resort in town and reveal of our Khmer Cultural Villas & Resort. We are taking your constructive feedback all the point especially on the ants and also the spider issued as well. We have been reinforcing our room’s attendant by bringing up to their concern.

Thank you very much for sharing this to us so that we will ensure the same issued will be not repeated.

Absolutely FANTASTIC Hotel. SUPERB in every respect. One of the best resorts we ever stayed in Asia. Reminds us of Hawaii resort.
An extremely warm welcome on arrival. We checked in early in the morning though! SPACIOUS ROOM with the terrace which is just direct to the swimming pool.
After coming back from The Sun Rise Tour, we spent all day in the pool . It was just lovely and comfortable! In the daytime in Siem Reap, do stay in the pool! Walking under the sun? This isn’t a good choice. Pool must be the final destination.
Morning buffet was just fabulous and delicious. ALL FREE! Too many to choose from, so take your time!
The concierge service was fantastic and helpful. Mr. Chun took a great care in our selection of the cheaper ticket to Thailand. We really appreciate his assistance.
It was an unforgettable stay with mty Daddy!
The only complaint, though, is that the hot water in the bath tub was “really hot”. Does anybody know how to handle this?

Room Tip: Pool View is the best coice!

Dear Takaharu F,

Warmest greeting from Sokhalay Angkor Villa Resort

Really our great pleasure to read your comment which we appreciated your time invested in writing this review to express how is your recently stay with us.
We have been sharing this to our team and the outstanding staff who assist you on the ticket purchasing. We encourage everyone do the same Mr Chhun the way of how handling with our valued clients and he was so happy to see this review mentioning his name. He would like to send his best regard to you and he expects to welcome you back again soon.

The hot water case, even we stick the signage on the bathtub, however we encourage our room attendant always turn the cold signage standing by rather than the hot signage. Sometime even hot signage standby and when the first turn on it still in cold water but immediate a few second there will be hot water along with the water tube.

We look forward to welcome you back home again soon.

Have a great day.

We stayed at this hotel for only 2 nights in Siem Reap. The staff was super professional and courteous. The breakfast buffet was really good also. The pool was awesome, and totally empty! We ate at the restaurant for dinner one night and had room service the other night. Nothing delicious but it was pretty good.

The concierge was able to arrange for us whatever we needed: bikes to ride to Angkor Wat, a tuk tuk to take us back there the next morning for sunrise, and an English-speaking tour guide and driver to take us around to other Angkor sites.

With our great pleasure to read your constructive feedback which we really appreciated your comments.
Many thank for a big complement toward our associates on supper professional plus the tour arrangement to heritage site during your stay recently which we really grateful and plenty of motivation toward our wonderful talent team.

In additional, we are on preparing new menu engineering to upgrade some particular point such rooms service as well as the buffet breakfast and provide better choice for our resident, clients and business partners.

We sincere appreciation your comment which go along with our planning to have the live band at our outside pool at the villas poolside. We had tested our live band team last night and it looks a bit crowded. On your next trip our live band will keep entertaining you through the evening.
