Stayed here for four nights and we loved it. Room, food, service all was excellent. A little far from centre but they provide an exceptional tuk tuk service. Would certainly come back as it was enormously welcoming and comfortable. And such friendly, polite staff.

We really enjoyed our 6 night stay here. It was mostly very peaceful, except from one incident which seems to have been mentioned elsewhere, and the staff were very friendly and only too willing to help.
Quite a few of the staff were fairly young and seemed willing to chat which we presumed, in part, was a way to help expand their english language skills. We found this an interesting way to learn a little bit more about the country and it was nice to give a bit of time to share learning and understanding.
We did enjoy the lush setting, the pool and the meals we had here.
While it is a bit out of the way, the free tuktuk service or, if necessary, paying for a tuktuk which is very cheap by our standards, meant that location was probably a benefit rather than a problem
We would definitely be prepared to stay there again, and hope that one day we might manage to do so again.

First visit to Cambodia, and perhaps my expectations (based in part on the TA reviews) were too high, but the level of service delivered did not meet my requirements at the Moon Boutique.

Tuktuk pickup at airport at 930pm, after a long journey - before we had passed out of the airport the driver told us there was something wrong with his tuktuk, and that we would have to wait for another to be sent to pick us up, 20-30 minutes. I said 'no', asked to speak to the hotel, and they then go the driver to find another tuktuk nearby, whilst we waited on the side of the street. I would have thought that he would have known on arrival at the airport (or before) that there was something wrong with his tuktuk.

Anyway, looking forward to arriving, we are expectant when the tuktuk comes to a halt down a little side street - only it isn't at the Moon. It's at the Bunwin Boutique Hotel, a sister to the Moon, owned by the same people. When I asked why we were there, I was told that the people who had been occupying our room had stayed on because of a sick child. Now, I can understand that happening, but for goodness' sake, why do the people who are flying in late at night on an international flight, tired and new to the surroundings, have to take the fall? On voicing my concern and suggesting that they might want to offer us a complimentary meal, they obliged - but I would much rather have had a problem-free transfer to the hotel that I had booked.

Next morning we had to transfer to the Moon. It is a very nice place, the rooms are adequate for the class of hotel that it is, the beds and pillows are hard. No mosquito screens on the windows was a problem, as there were some mosquitos in the room, and the only way of getting rid of them was to spray the room, leave it for 30 minutes, and then wire the room on re-entry - which would then let more mosquitoes in! The electric 'mozzie-zapper' type devices would have been a good idea, but perhaps they don't yet have them in Cambodia.

One thing to watch for generally is that, presumably because tourism is relatively new, mastery of English is hit and miss. We had a driver for three days and a guide for one, and it was hard to make oursleves understood (and we are experienced travellers, used to speaking to non-English speakers). The English skills of the hotel really needs working on, which became a real issue when booking restaurants, organising travel and booking a craft course for our daughter to do. We really had to take time to ensure that they understood, and then double-check later to make sure they had.

All in all, the experience was not what we would have liked. Some travellers have plenty of time and can take hiccups in their stride easily - others, with little time to enjoy on holiday, need things to go well. The staff at the Moon were without fail gentle, kind and lovely, and in recognition of the initial problems offered a foot massage to us for free, which was really nice of them. However, for me this did not overcome the various issues that arose daily.

Apart from this I agree with the rest of the reviews on TA about the Moon being a lovely oasis from the din of Siem Reap.

Finally, to respond to Holden4100 - keep your racist sterotypes to yourself. The Americans at the hotel on our visit were not the noisy ones - that accolade belongs to the Australians, who, as is sometimes the case (as with travellers from many other countries), talked loudly and abrasively whilst drinking next to the pool. I have no problem complaining on TA about the behaviour of fellow guests, but feeling the need to nominate their country of origin simply reveals your own prejudice.

I must say this hotel was a gamble for us. We would normally stay in a safe and comfortable 4 or 5 star hotel, of which there are several in Siem Reap. Still, the reviews were fantastic so we decided to take a punt. Although we wouldn’t stay here again, we are glad we have. You would be hard pressed to find a more helpful staff from the reception to the kitchen staff. They are only too pleased to offer advise and assistance, plus most have very good English. As some reviews mention, it is out of the way and the access is a bit rough but behind the walls is a small oasis with about 14 single story units, a small open air dining/breakfast area and a superb swimming pool. The rooms are spacious, have a separate toilet and huge bathroom with an open wet shower and big bath. The air conditioner struggles to keep the heat at bay as they are a little small for the room but quite manageable. It isn’t really within walking distance of town but the hotel put on free tuk tuks and give you a mobile phone to ring them up for the return journey. They also offer free pickups from the airport or bus station, as in our case, so ring or email them before you arrive. The free wifi is excellent plus they printed off some travel documents for free. A great little hotel that is well worth a try.

Lovely place, calm and romantic. It is a little bit far from the centre but has free tuk tuk service to and from the centre. 10 minutes trip. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and comfortable.
I am not giving them 5 points because of the distance. Otherwise it is perfect.
