“Clean and good customer service”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

They advertise themselves with very good customer service and that is what we got. Felt very welcomed, good info what to see in the city from Dany, info booklet also in the room. Twin room was very clean, large, with good, big beds and a good sized bathroom. Our stay was around the time of the power outage in the city. When the power went out again, and there was no info when it was going to be fixed for good, the manager(?) found a same priced hotel for us with a generator (and therefore a fan) and booked us there and arranged the pickup. All this happened without us even asking for it! So we did not even stay in Cashew Nut more than half a day, but can still say, that got the best customer service so far on the whole trip.
Roof top hang out place was sweet.

Room Tip: First floor if you can not bother the stairs

Reasons why I don't say excellent: 1) The air conditioner wasn't broken but it was very weak and was in need of servicing; 2) Our tuk tuk guide (Mr. Hok) on both days was the kindest, most gentle soul on earth, but his English was not so great, and now that I know another Cashew Nut driver (Sam) does speak English well, I think our experiences may have been limited; 3) The lock on the window was broken; and, 4) The white guy at the front desk was very inappropriate with a young Asian woman also behind the front desk, playfully hitting her (she was playfully hitting back), repeatedly asking her if she loved him (she repeatedly said no), and finally he bear-hugged her from behind and placed her on his lap. Not cool. Lastly, on our trip out to Kbal Spien, we were taken to eat at a restaurant with $2 cokes and $7-10 dollar entrees - a little pricey for Cambodia, considering the places AT kbal Spien were $2-3 per person (though admittedly, the places at Kbal Spien looked terrible). I would have appreciated having been given the choice is I guess what I'm trying to say.

Thank you ScottEversonRN for your review.

We are all very extremely happy you enjoyed your stay with us at The Cashew Nut.

Just in response to some of your concerns.

1- All our Air Con units have just been serviced and are delivering quiet, cool air.
2- We use the best quality and trust worthy tuk tuk drivers available at the time. During the high/peak season demands are very high but we have the utmost confidence in all the wonderful drivers.
3-Our handyman is going through checking all our window locks. Our secure building hasn't had any problems in the past but better safe than sorry.
4- After some investigation there appears to have been misinterpretation of the behavior of our staff that you referred to. We are very proud of all our wonderful, hard working staff so it did come as bit of a shock. We do encourage a fun, pleasant environment for all our guests and employees and are very sorry if the situation was misread.
5- The tuk tuk drivers generally know all the best restaurants out at the temples that provide safe, tasty and clean food. Some discussion to the driver (or our staff) regarding dietary or budget requirements may have addressed this.

Once again we are very happy you enjoyed your stay with us and a big thanks for taking the time to write a review.

Kind regards

Alan

The Cashew Nut is ok. We stayed for two nights in the twin room which overlooks the reception area. This is not good as the curtains in the bedroom are paper thin so the room is flooded with light up until around 10.30pm. This is very frustrating if you are planning an early morning to catch sunrise at the temples. Also the air conditioning unit is in bad condition and is extremely loud. I raised this with the staff with very little reaction.
The staff are very nice but seem to only really be able to deal with the stock scenarios- check in, check out etc. We had an issue that a takeaway breakfast wasn't prepared for us despite asking for it the day before. This option of having a nice breakfast to take with us at 5am to the temples was one of the things that attracted us to the guesthouse and we missed out. Overall after reading the reviews I was expecting a nice stay but really it was just ok.

Thank you LondonLB for staying with us and taking the time to write a review. We appreciate all feedback as it helps us continuously improve our services as we strife to make sure everyone has a wonderful time at our guesthouse and in Siem Reap. Our budget guesthouse prides ourselves on customer service and giving all our guests reliable, up to date information so we are all extremely disappointed when we hear a guest is disappointed.
As for the issues you have raised we are addressing them all straight away. All our air con units are all getting inspected and serviced as i write.
Not receiving a take away breakfast is obviously a mistake on our behalf and we sincerely apologize for this. Our hard working staff can get busy at times during the high season and the odd mistake can happen.(very rare though! ;-)
The Cashew Nut Guest House thanks you again for taking the time to write a review so we can improve our services and hopefully we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Kind regards,

Alan

We stayed here for two nights. Bedrooms weren't as nice as on the pictures, bathrooms too small and shower not seperate and breakfast was the most boring one we had during our three week holiday in Vietnam/Cambodia, however, staff are extremely friendly and give great recommendations. As it was my boyfriend's birthday, he got a one hour massage in our room, which was really appreciated. Thanks Nutters!

This place is located a bit after the end of the main market/restaurant street, but it's easily within walking distance (300-400m). The service is excellent and clear English is spoken. Lounge area has a nice sofa, table and a TV with selection of DVDs you can watch, a small book library you can read and a coffee/tea desk you can use for free 24/7.

Rooms are clean, although showers are quite small. During our stay there was also some kind of loud Buddhist mantra singing outside the hotel which started at 06:00 AM and continued for several hours. Also, a mirror in a room (close to an electric socket) would be a nice addition.

Receptionist alao booked a tuk-tuk driver, a guide for the temple complex and bus tickets to Thailand for us. Thanks for a good service!

I've traveled with friends in South East Asia for a month, mostly staying at guesthouses and bed&breakfasts and this place was definitely one of the best! Great location a short walk from Pub Street, fantastic sunset lounge on top of the roof, nice rooms and the friendliest staff I've encountered anywhere! The staff made me feel, that they really appreciate the business and want to ensure I have a good stay, which makes for a friendly atmosphere. They helped us plan our daily activities, arranged drivers and provided itinerary suggestions. I can recommend this place to just about anyone.

I traveled around South East Asia for 7 weeks on a medium/low budget and this was by far the best place I stayed at, I honestly cannot recommend it enough, me and my friend were thoroughly well looked after during our 6 night stay.

Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, providing cool face wipes and drinks after coming in from the heat. They were also really nice to chat to and provided lots of tips on where to go around town and how best to see all the temples. It is always nice to have so many smiles in a place!

In terms of the accommodation itself, it was great- spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated rooms with fan and air conditioning. The beds were really comfortable and it was fab to come back everyday and have them made for us- not a luxury we were definitely not used to. There was also wifi and a big tv which we used to watch the US Open final at 4am on- perfect! Having breakfast available in the mornings was also a great perk, I would definitely choose that option. The balcony is also great, and although we didn't use it ourselves I can see it being a great social hub if you are travelling in a group of friends.

In terms of the location, The Cashew Nut is about a 10/15 minute walk from the city center, so not the closest but for us it was really no problem at all. Staff were also happy to hire out bikes which was really useful and a good way to explore the surrounding area.

Really, the value for money here is fantastic, we were so well looked after and although the guesthouse offers no other facilities, that didn't really matter when there is so much to do in town!

Highly, highly recommended!
