We stayed 4 nights at Cashew Nut in room 10 on the upper floor. Very happy with the room, clean nice bed linen and tiled throughout. View over the street where you can see Cambodian life in full swing. Great air con + fan kept us nice & cool. Alan helped us a lot with suggesting temple itineraries and the best happy hours around town after a hard day temple trekking. Breakfast is help yourself - cereal, fruit, nice yoghurt, toast, juice, tea, coffee and sometimes other treats. Alan & team also helped us with transport - private air con car, tuk tuk, whichever your choice. We took a car one day for the comfort. Glad we chose Cashew Nut as it made our Siemens Reap experience smooth as.

Value for money, service from the staff and Alan's great - they'll help to sort out your every need and questions. Location's not quite in the heart of town but it's still pleasant and all's within walking distance.

We were heading down to Sihanouk Ville after Siem Reap and Alan just sat us down, pulled out a map, pen and paper, and generously shared the places to visit, eat and what to expect when we're there.

Met at airport by very friendly Tuktuk driver; made welcome by Alan and staff on arrival at Cashew Nut Guesthouse. Room 10 has aircon and a balconcy overlooking the street; very comfortable and worth that little bit extra. Alan planned our days in Siem Reap and Ankor Wat for us, arranged Tuktuks, and it worked out exceptionally well without a hitch. Bought tickets for the Museum at Cashew Nut and they were cheaper that at the Museum itself. Also arranged bus tickets on to Phnom Pehn for only $12. Alan and all his staff were excellent, informative, friendly. Rooms basic but clean and comfortable, especially at the price. Good simple breakfasts, including cereal. Location is OK on a busy road about 15 minutes walk or tuktuk for $1 or $2 to main part of city. Highly recommended and great value.

Room Tip: Room 10 has a balcony overlooking the street

We pre-booked a room for one week, were picked up at the airport as promised and right away felt at home at Alan's place. We really appreciated his great tips he offered us patiently: where to have great value meals, good massages, fantastic excursions with a reliable friendly tuktuk driver/guide, general information about Cambodia and other Asian countries, etc. etc... He is an amazing source of info. And lovely Moon even booked us an outstanding room in Battambang. Make sure you book plenty of days/weeks ahead, especially around Chinese New Year. We would have stayed even longer if we could. This was the best service we ever got in a guesthouse during our many journeys through the world!

Look, at under $20 a night you're not expecting the Ritz so it goes without saying that the rooms are basic but the service we received was unmatched; do yourself a favour and spend an hour with the owner right at the start and try to learn as much as you can from here before setting out for the temples.

So, my 5 star rating is done relative to the price. If you want more comfort, you'd do better spendign a bit more and looking for somewhere with a pool. Other than that, the location is good, the rooms are clean and the bathrooms commically small. We had the room over-looking reception and it was a bit bright at night so would suggest asking for a room on a higher floor but other than that I had no complaints.

And if you get back from your day feeling very tired, ask them to call out for food and just eat it on the sundeck, i don't think a restaurant in town could match that view anyway.

Guesthouse is in a fairly good area, about a 10 minute walk to the Old Market. Alan was very helpful in setting us up with a tuktuk driver and gave us the order in which to see the temples. This made a huge difference as we met up with others the next day who saw the temples but in a different order and at each of the temples they encountered crowds whereas we felt like we were the only people at the temples when we went. We ended up booking a temple tour the next day for the big ones and did not book through Alan and regretted it. So...moral of the story - book through Alan, he knows his stuff. Rooms were clean, but our AC didn't work that great. We moved rooms and the AC was better. The road out front of the guesthouse was ripped up and so when we walked anywhere we ended up very dirty. All in all it was a good experience.

Nice rooms, sunset terrace, and all in all a great place! But what really makes this place one of the best places we've stayed during our 3-4 months in Southeast-Asia, is the staff, and especially the manager, Alan. He sat down with us and figured out what we should se, gave us a map and a route around the city (what to do/see), and the same for the temples. He also got hold of a good guide and a tuktuk-driver for our day at Angkor wat, and when we left 5 am we were given take-away breakfast!
