“Quiet, clean, friendly place to stay”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

Locate quite far from the main street but it is what we want! a peaceful and quiet place to rest after one long walking day at Angkor Wat :)
I had a great great time at Angkor Wat with Mr.Hak's tuk tuk driver, he is an english speaking with a good sense of humor, very friendly and funny tuk tuk driver (er..Mr.Bond / Mr.Bon / Mr.Bong?)!!
The Double room with A/C have a good air conditoner and bathroom condition! for 12$ ($6 per person) including breakfast, I think I got more than what I paid :)
The living room is cozy place with books, computer, internet, and wifi service.
Mr. Hak himself is a friendly and helpful person, he help me to book a car to continuing my trip to Poipet Border.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hak's House. Hak was a great person to chat to about Cambodian life, plus he was very helpful when it came to travel. His english is the best I've heard from a local Cambodian. The rooms are clean and tidy, the free breakfast quite nice and for the price, very good value. Wireless internet worked well and I met many other travellers who also stayed at Hak's house and loved their stay.

The walk into pub street is about 10-15 minutes, so really not too far away.

I found Haks House quite enjoyable. I was a little dubious when the shower was cold (and the website says it's hot) but we were told we could move rooms as soon as one was free.

Overall it was fairly clean, great price and decent location (too far to walk to town but when the Tuk Tuk is $1...). Couple of times the bathroom didn't look as if it had been cleaned, but when there is that much dust and dirt in the city itself it'd be difficult).

Hak and his staff were really helpful (hats off to Pier our Tuk Tuk driver, he was a legend).

I'd stay here again :-)

Fantastic. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the amenities are great. You get free drinking water, computers with internet, DVDs, wifi, laundry service ($1 per kg) and breakfast is included.

But most importantly, Hak and his staff are incredibly great hosts. Hak really went beyond the call of duty and was always friendly and cheerful. There was no space when we arrived so he sorted us out with accommodation down the road for 2 nights before returning us to Hak's House in a free Tuk Tuk to stay for the next 3 nights. He was also always happy to help with arranging Tuk Tuks, tours, bike rental, buses for onward travel...it was almost too easy! Highly recommended.

Siem Reap has an insane number of cheap guesthouses. I went around to at least a dozen of them when I first got to Siem Reap to start a 3-month internship but the best value I could find was at Hak's.The building is new and the cleaning staff keep the rooms and common areas very clean. The staff is attentive and friendly, and take the time to learn your name. Fan rooms are $6 per night, A/C rooms are $12 breakfast included in both. Rooms come with a private bathroom, and the doors have good locks. The extras really add value and convenience to your stay: free bike rental (you can choose from one of several busted granny bikes, fine for cruising around town), free water refills for your water bottle, laundry service ($1/kg). Hak can take care of travel booking and visa extensions for the same price you would get at a travel agency. Breakfast is simple, but it's free- two eggs your way, fruit, a crusty baguette, and coffee or tea. Lunch and dinner have limited options, but the food is restaurant quality, with nothing priced over $2.50. The vegetable curry with rice and the stir-fried chicken with cashews are standouts. The location is a bit out of the way and walking can be dusty and inconvenient, but it's an easy 5 minute bike ride or $1 in a tuk-tuk to the central (Pub Street) area.

Room Tip: Room 21 is the only room with a large flatscreen TV, however it is next to the balcony so you may ha...

Stayed in nov for 4 nights.

Hak is a really great guy- makes your stay in Siem reap generally very easy.
His guesthouse is great- good layout and nice common areas.

So the negatives...
Our room wasn't particularly clean. Bathroom hadnt been cleaned properly, bed sheets were grubby....
It's $12 a night for air con and we didnt expect it to be perfect but even so...

Would highly recommend. I have knocked a star off for the cleanliness.
Go there and enjoy

We arrived to this hotel a day earlier (this was our mistake). The hotel was fully booked and Hak made no effort to help us with suggestions for alternate hotels. We did not have a phone, again, no offer to call for us. Thanks for quick internet search, we found 2 hotels and picked one for the first night (Bat hotel). Bat's hotel ended up to be nice, but we felt a sense of commitment to come back and honor our reservation at Hak's hotel. This was a mistake! The facility at Hak's is fine, rooms are clean, bathrooms are acceptable. However, the service is cold. Every interaction felt like he was trying to pull out some more money. He told us to just let him know a day in advance if we wanted to stay an extra night. When we told him that we wanted to extend, suddenly he no longer had any rooms. We felt that we did our part and stuck to our original agreement to stay at his hotel for the agreed upon time, but he made no effort to help us out when we wanted to stay longer. In retrospect,we wished we left his hotel much earlier. We ended up finding a wonderful hotel, Berlin-Angkor (also known as Firefly) with really warm hosts, wonderful common space and just a delightful atmosphere and nicer rooms with a much better breakfast selections. I would not stay at Hak's place and would not recommend his hotel. There are much better options at similar rates.
