“Nice but small”
Reviewed April 4, 2014 via mobile

The hotel is situated a bit further away from the town centre, hence is not very convenience. As we have hired a private tour guide, so the location does not bother us. The hotel rooms are smaller than we expected and did not have enough lights.... Other than that, the hotel is clean and cosy!

Lovely small property furnished and decorated with an absolute refined taste. 8 rooms around a nice black swimming pool and a nice little restaurant with an open kitchen. Very near the site of Angkor wat and away from the crowed and noise in the city.

Do yourself a favour and do not stay at this hotel. Go somewhere else instead. You would be treated better if you were a convict in a concentration camp. Bad service, bad management, bad cooking, bad food, bad attitude.

Dear Sir

Your reservation for our Villa Diego Do Couto was made with a promotional rate on Expedia for two people plus a child under 12 years, but when you arrived, there were 3 adults.
If the 3rd person was really a child under the age of 12 , we provide with pleasure a child bed free for under 2 years old and $35 for under 12 with breakfast, which is the terms of sale with us on Expedia
This was not the case, your daughter is not a child but an adult , aged 27 years old.

To please you, we gave your daughter a junior suite at a small additional charge of U.S. $ 45.00 per night with breakfast included.

During your stay , I personally assured that you have a great stay , no negative comments back from you.

Discerning readers of TRIP ADVISOR after reading my comment may consider the lack of seriousness of your text by comparing it to 124 excellent on 140 reviews which have earned us the distinction from 2013 and 2014 TripAdvisor Traveller Choice.

8 of us were in SiemReap for the 18th Angkor Wat International Half Marathon and stayed in this hotel. Excellent service. Friendly staff. The boss of the hotel specially arranged carbo-load pasta dinner the night before the race, plus light breakfast with bananas at 5am before we leave for the race!
The Samar Villa & Spa Resort rocks!!

At first I was very worried after reading the comments from Tripadvisor that the attitude of the owner is very bad. However, it changed my perception after checking in.

The owner in fact is a nice guy. He knew that we were participating in Angkor Wat Half Marathon and he informed the staff to prepare light breakfast eg bananas , biscuits and coffee for us at 5a.m! Besides, he also arranged transportation for us to the race place. Oh yes! Special thank to him to request the chef to prepare the delicious pasta for us for our carbo-loading party the night before the race! We really appreciated his kind gestures.

The rooms are big and the hotel is located off the city centre eg Pub Street. It is very quiet place for relaxation. You will never want to stay at the happening and noisy place near the Pub Street.

The hotel staff is friendly. We definitely would like to come back again for vacation.

The Villa Resort is an amazing place close to Siem Reap & Angkor temples. Staff is wonderful and ready to satisfy every need. Apartment was high class style. Swimming pool is located in the heart of the small resort. Intimate place with every service you need. We had the opportunity to meet the owner (french) who gave us a lot of good directions in terms of restaurants, must to see & so on, also regarding second part of our trip in Laos. They could arrange for you everything in minutes. We ate just once at the hotel restaurant. Khmer food was well cooked and we had the opportunity to see a khmer dance show. The funniest was the "Disco Tuk Tuk", the hotel tuk tuk, managed by a charity, always ready to take you around the city!

Very tastefully decorated hotel and the initial welcome by on duty manager was excellent...but that's where it all ended.

Firstly the hotel is out of town and not in a very good area, a very odd place to put a hotel as you are in the middle of a rather poor neighborhood.

We decided to order lunch at the hotel which took a long time as they had to call/find the chef. The food was good when it eventually arrived. We tried to order a glass of white wine only to be told they have none of the white wines. On further enquiry we were told that the wine by the glass was finished but we could order a bottle...huh??? Surely one just substitutes the wine by the glass?? The wine then arrived and the bottle was warm...ironically they did bring an ice bucket and some ice to put into the wine to chill it....

Last straw was when we came back to the hotel after an even out and requested that they sent some ice to the room. We were told they have none.

I went back to enquire again and insisted that they call the hotel manager. He (the owner) then appeared at our door insisting that I not speak badly to his staff. It all ended in a rather unpleasant screaming match.

All this over a bucket of ice which in any other hotel claiming to be four/five star would be a basic hygiene factor.

All the staff had to sat was that the ice machine was broken but that they would arrange some ASAP. How about a cooler with some bags of ice in it?

Even more ridiculous is that only two rooms have guests.

The manager has no idea how to run a hotel... At best this would be a guest house.

There are better places to stay in Siem Riep and if the manger would refund us our money we would happily change hotels.

Before I respond to your comment, I want to clarify that this client’s friend who shared the 2nd bedroom of this apartment, a gentleman came this morning to apologize for his behavior which he did not share.
Now I will like to give the explanation to the readers on Trip Advisor for the misleading comment from this client.
The client checked in at 4pm. After registration completed, he requested lunch to be serve.
Our kitchens and wine cellar are closed from 02.30 pm to 06.00 pm. To provide good service, we called in one of our chef who was off from duty. The client acknowledge that the food served was good and that Samar Villas is a beautiful home.
At around 11pm, you returned from the city center to Samar, under the influence of alcohol, with a bottle of alcohol in the arm and you asked for ice.
The night concierge accompanied by a security guard came back to inform you that our icemaker was not working correctly and hence there was no ice, but he request you to wait a few minutes so that he can go outside to buy and will bring them to your apartment.
Not being in his normal state, he got upset and started screaming in the hallways.
The night porter immediately awakened our manager who came to bring you ice but you continue to make a scene in the hotel and threatened to make bad comments on the hotel to the media. The manager only mistake is not having requested the intervention of the touristic police.
The comment on Tripadvisor was posted on the same night(23/09/2013) while you were under the influence of the alcohol. If our place was really that unpleasant and terrible as this client had mentioned, why did he checked out on the 26/09/2013???
The smart readers on Trip Advisor will be able to judge this themselves from my reply.
