My first tripadvisor review to share the great experience we had at this hotel.
I travelled with my wife and my 3 childrens, age 9, 11 & 12.
We picked this hotel maintly because it is very well situated (a 5 minutes walk to the old market area where most of the shops and restaurants are situated) and because it offered suites, or rather small appartments.
The appartments are situated in a separate building from the hotel per say, accross a small street. The balcony overlooked the river and we had a marvelous view of the city and of the sunset.
We booked a 2 bedroom suite. I was disapointed on arrival because it was on the ground floor and asked if another was available. The manager upgraded us to a 3 bedroom suite on the 4th floor with no extra charge. Also, we left the hotel for 2 days to go to Battambang, leaving all of our stuff in the appartment, but since the hotel was not full, the manager did not charge us for the 2 nights away.
The suites are very well furnished, just like an appartment (would be fine for an expat.), with a large fridge, a microwave, a stove, and even a washing machine. With the kids, It was nice to be able to have meals and breakfasts there, and to wash clothes. The wifi was working well.
The suites are large, but the size described on the website seems exagerated.
There are two swimming pools on the roof of the buildings. We had the one in our building to ourselves.
Breakfast is good (choice of continental, American or Cambodgian), but it is better not to arrive too late if you want croissant and chocolatine, otherwise you will have to settle for toasts.
We only had one meal there. The food was very nice, but mostly Cambodgian, and the kids preferred steak & fries .... A few occidental dishes on the menu would be welcome.
The staff was very helpful and eager to please.
We highly recommend this hotel, which was like a home away from home, during our stay at Siem Reap.

I'm shocked to see any bad reviews of the staff. Everyone was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. They arranged our bike rental, gave us advice and provided great drink service by the pool. Staying here was a perfect, quiet hideaway from the touristy and crowded city center, yet it was no more than a 5 min walk to the heart of it all. After a hot day of wat-seeing, the small, but nice salt-water pool was perfect. Our room was fairly simple but nice. The manager said they were designed the way they are to keep the integrity of the original building, which was some official's house back in the day. We had a king room, with a really cool, beautiful bathroom. We only had breakfast there, which was pretty good—asian, continental or american. Overall, we appreciated this hotels mission to provide a boutique but affordable hotel experience.

When we travel in Asia we really only want a quite, clean hotel to stay in, as we tend not to eat in hotel restaurants other than for breakfast. Karavansara is reasonably well located in a quieter part of Seim Reip. Our room was a good size and clean. There was no lift, only stairs to all rooms on our wing. Our room was spartan, with no fridge or coffee/tea making facilities. The pool was on our level and didn't have much seating around it and it was small. It looked clean but we didn't use it. However we sat around it one night having drinks but then the lights got turned off so we went back to our room.
We stayed three nights but as mentioned, only used the hotel as a base whilst we explored the ruins, the floating village, the markets etc. Used this way it suited our purpose, but I can understand other people being disappointed.
We can't comment on lunch or dinners since we only ate breakfasts at the hotel. These were also a bit basic and tended to take too long to arrive considering the few people seated at the times we ate. Having said that, we found all the staff to be friendly and helpful.

This hotel is owned by an absent American who i would summise has no idea what standard this hotel is really at or if he does he does not care. The onsite local manager has all the will but seems powerless.

Before writing this review i gave 3 weeks for a response to private confidential, constructive comments i made in writing hoping that i would be listened to. The local manger did reply but with no real answers or resolution.
I stayed in a two bedroom apartment which was large and modern - the issue being that it was not furnished completely as described on the website and certainly not like any of the pictures on the website. For the price i paid it was very unnaceptable. If i did have four people in my party they would not have even been able to relax as there was one two seater sofa and a chair . The answer i recieved back was that it is not finished yet and the owner is still brining in furniture. I am now under the impression that some apartments are as shown on the website and some are not.

The elevator was only working 3 days out of the 7 that i stayed
There was a telephone but it was not connected, so for any room service or requirements I had to walk down the stairs ( elevator not working) and ask at reception. I am not a lazy person but again for the price charged for the suite this was unnaceptable to have to go across the road to the main building everytime i wanted something.

This is Cambodia i know and the staff were very courteous but not trained for customer service. Once again the charges do not reflect the standard of this hotel. To bring over a cooked breakfast from the kitchen across the road to the apartments and up the stairs without it even being covered is shocking.
lastly i went to look at the pool on the roof of the apartment block and there were open electric cables in each end of the pool. When i contacted reception becuase of my worry of any chidren going in this I was told quite casually that the maintenance people are fixing the lights ( no signage was displayed and no the pool was not put out of use) The pool was dark green and in my opinion no way would i go in it - dead insects floating in it and it looked filthy.

I have stayed in Siem reap before and chose this hotel / apartment becuase it looked new and has a good location by the river but i will not stay here again and i recommend anyone thinking of booking an apartment and looking at the website be careful you do not get an apartment half furnished - incidently the telephone was connected after a few days and a washing machine was installed but should i really have had to ask for these considering the astronomical charge for these apartments. The main part of the hotel rooms looked nice but the apertment i had was not worth the price charged and substandard

You live and learn and whilst i was in S /R i went out and found my next accommodation which is far superior to this at one third of the price. I viewed a room and was even told the best room to ask for when booking - if you want the name of the hotel please contact me.

A message to the owner - please complete your apartment furnishings as per your website decscription commensurate to your charges and give your staff some TLC and training.

Thank you. Mr P W

Room Tip: Stay in the main hotel and do not spend extra money on the apartments they are not worth it

Average 3-star hotel.
Clean room but poor housekeeping staffs. Floor towel left on sink & used tea set are not cleared after housekeeping.
The reception staffs are helpful but not knowledgable of the area.
Asked for directions to 3 places but gave wrong info after she goggled and speak to the establishments over the phone. Better to goggle on your own than depend on their help.
Tour packages booked through the hotel are not professional. A full day tour from sunrise to sunset was cut short to be back at hotel 2.30pm with tour guide kept insisting that we had covered the major sites and nothing more to see.

It was our second trip to Siem Reap and will not be our last. We chose this hotel for its location which is easy walking distance to Pub Street etc. We booked a one bedroom apartment and when we arrived were upgraded to a two bedroom which was very luxurious. The staff were very friendly and helpful and arranged our tour guide for the Temples. We have stayed in many places in Cambodia and would rate this the best

We chose this hotel after looking at reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. Hotel was modern and rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was very good as well and we had a package which included breakfast and one Cambodian style dinner. Friendly staff. Hotel is in a quiet location but walking distance to the main town area. Overall we had a great time and definitely hope to be back.
