“A Pain to Get to but Totally Worth the Trip!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

If you can survive the tuk-tuk ride to get just one street over from one of the main boulevards then you will be very happy.

We actually took the trip over to Sugar Palm early in the day to scout the location and try and get a reservation. They had just closed for lunch but nice enough to let us in to look around and check the menu. We immediately wanted to make a reservation when we were told they were full. Tables all full at 7, 7:30 & 8pm. They said that there might be openings when those tables left at 9:15/9:30. Well, being New Yorkers, a 9pm dinner time is pretty standard on a weekend night.

As usual, everything was great. Spring rolls, Noodles with chicken, and a Fish Amok. I finally had a cocktail that I enjoyed called a Watermelon Mint. Perfect for this weather. Actually, I had two of them on this evening.

There is a reason why Sugar Palm is in most guide books. The building is beautiful, authentic and very cool. It is only a regular stilt home but it actually felt like you could be in an exotic scene from a James Bond movie; before they went outside to fight it out. Haha.

Happy Eating.

“My favourite Amok in Siem Reap”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

Looking around, it appeared that every other diner in this restaurant had read the Lonely Planet Siem Reap guide and knew that chef Gordon Ramsay learned some tips on Khmer cooking from the chef at this large, airy restaurant. The description of Amok made my mouth water and even though you have to wait, it is worth it. We ordered both a shrimp and fish Amok. Arriving in a coconut shell, it was thick, creamy and as described in the book "souffle-like"...delicious. Hand-crafted cocktails and the best crispy spring rolls with a lovely spun sugar(?) coating. I would agree with other reviewers that the service was a bit slow and the staff could be friendlier but the food we ate here was excellent.

Beef skewers, eggplant & minced pork, spring rolls, crispy noodles and ginger beef! Add a Angkor beer or two and you are in heaven!
