We had dinner at Amok one evening in Siem Reap. I had read about this restaurant in our travel guide and really wanted to try it. We were promptly seated by an extremely friendly guy, given the loveliest pumpkin soup, which was beautiful, and left to trawl the menu. My husband and I shared a tasting platter of fish, chicken, pork and vegetable amok. It was beautifully served, came with a generous serve of rice. Mmmmmmm just lovely. Our 2 teenage children had a fish amok and a chicken amok. Very generous serves and very reasonable prices. I thought the location was great. Lots going on in the Alley without being too hectic. On leaving we were given little bags of Kampot pepper. A nice gesture. Would definitely eat there again.
Im vegetarian and there was an excellent selection to choose from. I wanted a carafe of the house white and was able to taste it first (a nice French Chardonnay) i had a cashew dish and my husband had chicken sweet and sour, both excellent. The sorbets are to die for. Very attentitive service.
We found it by following recommendations on Tripadvisor. We were offered pumpkin soup as a welcome drink, a little odd......but it was truly delicious. Fish amok and ginger chicken were tasty and well presented. Service was a little slow although. A good address although the little and busy alley it is located at does not offer much of a romance.
We went to Amok on our first evening in Siem Reap. First thing that stood out was the quality of service. Young men and women that wait on you there are fantastically trained. Having eaten in all sorts of places from holes-in-a-wall in Hanoi to many high-end restaurants in US, I have yet to encounter waitstaff that is so....well....amazing. We were promptly seated, drinks arrived quickly and were accompanied by complimentary shooters of their delicious pumpkin soup. When we ordered food, the waiter read back our order to confirm (not our first Cambodian place, and we had our orders messed up once before). Food was also delivered promptly. The staff was invisible, until we needed them (check or another drink), at which point they magically appear. They are very friendly and eager to help. Overall, we had an awesome experience and we will probably find our way back again during the trip.
