We managed to get MotherHome to send a tuk-tuk to pick us up after our bus ride from Phnom Penh, and it was a really welcome sight to have a driver waiting for you at nearly 9pm at the deserted bus station and everything was really pitch black.
At the hotel, it was a really comfortable setting and the staff all welcome you with huge smiles and immediately offered us a seat, cold towels and a welcome drink. The room wasn't exceptionally large but still very comfortable with a nice toilet, and for USD$30 per room for triple sharing, it was really value for money. The beds were cushionny and fluffy, and you would definitely get your good night's sleep.
The receptionist was really good and friendly, and settled our breakfast for the next day as we wanted to go see the sun rise at Angkor Wat. We set off at 4.45am with the breakfast packed and it took only 15-20 mins by tuk tuk to Angkor Wat.
What really impressed me was that all the staff were really friendly, really displaying the 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude I have associated with the Khmer people. When we reached back the hotel with muddy and sandy shoes, we tried to scrape and jump to get rid of the sand at the entrance of the hotel. But the staff kept telling us that it was okay, and we could just proceed indoors and they would clean up after us. It was a wow factor for me as I stayed in other hotels whose staff gave me black faces if my shoes were sandy.
Staying in MotherHome for 3 nights was superb, and it was really the friendliness and cheerfulness of the staff that set it apart. I really looked forward to returning back to the hotel during midday to escape the sweltering heat as the beds were really comfortable.
My ending point, even if you have a higher budget for other hotels, just save that extra money and stay in MotherHome! It is a gem of a hotel in Siem Reap and a true bargain.
